This is my new amp, that I've modded with the Frank Levi #34 Mod. It's got nice Tung-Sol 6550s and JJ ECC83s tubes.

The sound I hear in my head when I think of "High Gain Marshall".
Thanks!
@@EddyLenz oh btw if u want to use it for djent get a djent pedal and put it through the front
@@alexkidd4979 Djent isn't really my thing haha
That' by far the brightest, twangy, and most strident neck humbucker I've ever heard in an LP.
Yeah, it's an awesome pickup, but the amp is a big part of that sound.
Sounds Incredible. Has that "parked wah" mid of great eighties Marshalls. Beautiful tone and tight bass. Especially with the neck pickup and the articulation of the dipped low mids and passed sub-lows. Very LA in the best way. Cheers!
Thanks, Mark!
That sounds so raw it’s unbelievable
Thanks, mate!
This showed up in my recommended. Sounds absolutely Killer 🤘🤘
Thanks!
Nice, clean, classic Marshall crunch. Just can't beat that tone
Thanks!
Sounds better than any Kemper, Lame 6, or Fractal simulation.
Thanks!
Dude that's one of the coolest LPs I've seen
Thanks!
And that's how real men use a marshall.
Exactly
Those tones sound killer.... and decent playing too. I wish my JCM800 sounded like this
Thanks! We could make that happen :D
All 800s sound a little different and when you get a good one, they sound great.
Yeah, this is a really good one! Just needed a full service and some #34 magic :D
The best 800s are the modded ones, any album by G&R, Ozzy Osborne, Metallica, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Motley Crue...all modded JCM800s
Great tone! I actually have a Frank Levi modded JCM 800 that he did for me before he died and i run it through an Orange 2x12 cab, too.
Thanks, that's amazing! So sad that he passed.
A-1 Killer ultimate and unique 800 right here . Yup , this IS that hot rod Marshall tone in my head !
Thank you!
1 word, magical.
Thanks!
Damn that sounds good !!!
Thank you!
This is what I think of when I think of a Les Paul and a Marshall 👍
Hey man you're playing is tight! It really does an amp like this justice. Great shit man
Thanks, mate!
Of course friend. Wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true :)
ohhhh myyyy goodness that is some tone and hella chops
Thanks!
best tone i've ever heard on neck pickup
Thanks!
bridge pickup to me not so much...something is being over compressed in the bridge...maybe just back off on volume...killer gain..neck kiks ass
@@frankrokob7406 That aggressive, compressed/cocked Wah sound is what the mod is designed to sound like. It's not for everyone and it's also not what I would use for my personal style of music, but it's extremely fun :D
Wow! Spot on 34 mod. Great job.
The amp sounds killer, but you have fantastic chops!
Thanks, mate!
Back to Cali !!! 🎯😍
Yeah, I love that song :D
Enorme, jamais entendu un marshall sonner aussi bien👍
The real sound of slash !!
Kickstart My Heart at the begin stole the show for me.
Haha, I love that song.
@@EddyLenz Will be the song of my next video. Is my favourite Crüe's song.

By the way...VELVET REVOLVER FUCK YEA!!
Insanely great tone!

Great sound 😊 good job for démonstration good playing 👌🏼👍

Nice tones

Haha this is one of my all time favorite solos by slash, why did you stop?
Because the last time I played that solo was years ago and I forgot how to play it haha
Have a look at my new video, made it just for you ;D
Not bad ,sounds good, I would just reduce the treble around 3 or 4, and middle 4, and gain 4.5 or 5
Very good!! Congratulations my friend
Woooofft what a sound
Thanks!
Sounds solid!
Thanks!
Sounds killer
Thanks!
@@EddyLenz I want one !!
@@neilnolin823 I'd gladly mod one for you
Your Slash tone is right on the money!! Just a few Q's: What were the Master and Pre-Amp settings for this video? Were you running an attenuator/PPIMV? Great chops man!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks! I show all the settings at the beginning. I was running the amp into a load box and used IRs
It sounds fine, especially with LP style guitar. But I dare you plug in a vintage single coil strat and it would be unbearably bright and harsh, especially on the bridge pickup. Unless you dial out lots of high end.
Yeah, it wasn't made for single coil Strats. It was made to cut thru a Rock mix with a Les Paul.
sounds great!
Thanks!
...i see you got it running the bridge out of phase .... thought i was the only one...
I love mixing my Marshall tone with a Diezel Hebert , the Marshall has the bit whiloe herbery has Rich harmonics and low end
Nice! I can imagine that it works great.
Eddy Lenz marshal mixes good with any amp because of the golden highs they have
@@techdeathhippie6319 Yeah, I agree.
it will be nice if one day you decide to profile you amps collection with Kemper :)
I don't think that's ever gonna happen haha. I'd rather get more vintage Marshalls than a Kemper :D
Well, it happened haha. Profiles are available at lenzprofiles.com :D
And just like that, I wanna have a modded jcm800
I'd gladly make you one :D

Wicked sound for what it is but over time, I think all that cocked wah tonality is gonna grate on the ears. Too much for me. Levi was a genius though.
Thanks! Yeah it's not something I would use all the time.
If you're using IR"s, what are you using as a load box? Insane tone bro, super sick!!!!! I definitely want this sound.
Thanks, mate! I'm using a TAD Silencer
@@EddyLenz thx!
Sounds amazing! Fantastic playing man! How do I get my SL5 to sound like that?
Thanks! Not sure what circuit the SL5 has, but a lot of the tone here comes from cranking the amp...
Sounds really really good 👍. I cringe at the "Eddy" carved into that Paul. It didn't deserve that
Thanks! Well, I think it did deserve it lol
@@EddyLenz Fuck Yeah......It's a tool, not a Idol!
If the man is planning to hanging on to it, who cares? Makes it his, no questions asked
Nice tone. do you remember the exact IR you used? I have the MRBW pack but there's a billion different ones in there.
Thanks! Sorry, I don't. I think it was one of the premixed ones, not a single mic one.
Hello great sounding amp. What speakers are you using?? And which speakers sound best thru thru this amp ??
Thanks! Here I'm using IRs. I've tried it with G12T-75 and V30 and both were great
@@EddyLenz thanks bro
Heaven to my ears, perfect tone! Btw, wich cabinet do you use? 2x12, 4x12?
Thanks! I used a load box and Ownhammer IRs
@@EddyLenz right but did u try it with a 2x12 or 4x12?
@@nicolasbolattieberhardt1127 back then I only had an Orange 2x12 while I was in the UK.
@@EddyLenz cool cabinet 2 v30s right? In Argentina is almost imposible to buy, very expesive. So i bought a clon from a local costumer, very cool btw! But it's load with 2 greenbacks, mi amp is a DSL5cr
@@nicolasbolattieberhardt1127 it's got the Orange equivalent to V30, but I prefer my old G12 Vintage 30
Which IR's from the folder did you use? Sounds spot on! 💥
Thanks! I think they were from the Players folder.
Which of the jcm800 (2204 in my case) mods clean up best w/the guitar volume ? I have a hotmodV2 that’s doesn’t. Do any of the bogner’s clean up well, or just the slash mods ? I’d be using low to medium gain pickups, btw....
The Snorkler and Slash Mods clean up well. My new custom Mod also cleans up nicely.
Master on 8???? with a 2203 I didnt think that was possible without an attenuator .... what speakers?
I used a load box and Ownhammer IRs. You need to crank the amp for a good #34 sound.
Hey Eddy, great sound! I also have a JCM800 modded to S.I.R. #34. However the highs are pretty harsh on my one. I now it is supposed to be a aggressive tone. But all the overtones are pretty hard to tame and I get a lot of feedback very fast. Snarling of the strings is pretty upfront, which is not the case if I play with a regular Marshall. Do you have any advice what I can do? I'd appreciate it a lot! Cheers! Andy
Thanks! What setting do you use and especially how much do you turn up the volume?
@@EddyLenz thanks for your quick reply. The settings are: P:0 B:9 M:4 T:1,5 Master: 4 PreAmp: 5.5
I‘ve also tried to turn the Master up to 8 and the PreAmp down to 2 or 3 as the man himself is said to do it. But I felt like it’s getting even worse. The settings I‘m using now are the ones that I feel are the ones that diminish that problem best. But it’s still too much twangy and with too much attack. Your recordings sound way more balanced and controlable as a far as the highs are concerned.
Which IR did you use from the Ownhammer pack?
I think I always used some from the summary or player folder.
This is insane..!! Killer tone bro .. can you share ownhammer mrbw irs
Thanks! You can buy them on their website.
This is just straight up fantastic. Would you know how i could come close to this sound with my 2525c?
Thanks! Unfortunately not. These amps are very different from each other.
What is the neck pickup in that guitar? Best neck pickup on a Les Paul I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard many… Duncan?
It's the Duncan Slash Neck but it's mostly the way it sounds with that amp, because with other amps, it can be too fat and undefined.
Will you be capturing this for the tonex soon?
Unfortunately, I don't have an amp with that circuit right now.
Hi! Nice tone, would you mind share your amp settings please?
Thanks! You can see them in the beginning.
Perfect Slash tone! You can play all the slash stuff! Settings?
Thanks! You can see the settings in the video.
How close to this can you get with say a 1976 Marshall super lead 100? With this mod of course?
Should be very close if you've also got am attenuator to crank the amp.
Do you use EQ pedal for that tone sir?
Nope
Sounds sick. What load box are you using to run your IRs?
Thanks! I'm using a TAD Silencer.
How did you connect amp to focusrite without loadbox ? I don't see any in description
I'm using a TAD silencer
Hey Eddy, do you think that 6550s are The best power tubes to this mod? Did you already try kt88s?
I haven't tried KT88 yet, but I can't decide whether I prefer EL34 or 6550
@@EddyLenz It sounds amazing either way hahahahaha. Do you have any video of #34 with El34?
Those early 80s jcm800s sound better then the later 80s versions, right? What you think?
I've never tried a late 80s 2203/4 so I can't say. There are always gonna be differences though , even between two '81 2203s...
Did you do Frank's "Hot Shield Mod"?
Yeah
what is that riff @ 1:16-2:00 ?
It's Back to Cali by Slash
Man, what a tone! What was the name of the first song? I can't seem to find it.
It's Velvet Revolver - Fall To Pieces
Sounds really amazing bro!
Did you use only the JCM 800?
Thanks! Yeah, it's straight into the amp.
@@EddyLenz ok I have a question. This is the 1 channel version of the jcm800? So you didnt have a distortion pedal into it?I have a 50 watt 2 channel (2205) from 85.
@@liamsilver4843 Yeah, it's the 1 channel version.
Killer tone, what pickups are they ? I have a Duncan slash in one of my LPs
Thanks! They're the Duncan APH-2s
@@EddyLenz you really nail that early GNR Slash sound they had on the first record, it goes to show that their tone is all in the amp and the fingers. When GNR toured Australia last Slash's main amp blew a valve and fuse from a blown speaker. My local tech actually worked on his number one amp which is a stock Marshall model 2555 black jubilee which was cool to hear about!
What’s the song before back from Cali
It's Fall to Pieces by Velvet Revolver
Are you using a treble bleed on your neck pickup?
Yeah
@@EddyLenz Nice playing. Love the mod!
suena barbaro
Can a Jubilee 25/50 be modded with 34/36 settings?
Not really. The Jubilees are so different, that it doesn't make sense to mod them like that.
Ill take 2
You should do a video showing how you did the mod
I honestly thought about that a while ago, but I'm not much of a talker haha
Eddy Lenz would be very cool
@@techdeathhippie6319 I'll consider it, next time when I do one of the simpler mods like the #34
Eddy Lenz they would be great
Sounds killer ! Could you mod my 20w studio Jcm800 like this ?
Thanks! Yeah, I've done lots of #34/36 Mods on the studio Marshalls.
wich schematic did you use?
there´s severals on the web, but this is just amazing!
Thanks! I used Santiago's schematic, as it's copied from Slash's #34

1:20 riff…? What song it is?
What's the mod,did you add more gain.Sounds good.
Thanks! It's the #34 Mod which is basically a tweaked 2203 for slightly more gain and a different sound.
What does the IR include cab/speaker/mic-wise?
It simulates a micd cab. In this case an old Marshall 4x12. There are loads of different mics to choose from.
@@EddyLenz I expected as much, would you mind to share some more details on your chosen settings like eg 60s AV with V30s or greenbacks micd with SM57.. ? Thx!
@@MitchOnAir76 I honestly don't remember the settings I used for that and I don't have access to the files right now. I think it was a mix of IRs from the Ownhammer MRBW Players folder.
@@EddyLenz too bad I am currently having a 1980 2203 modded the same way and would like to build a matching 4x12 cab in order to produce exactly the sound in your video..
@@MitchOnAir76 Nice, I guess a 4x12 with 25w Greenbacks would get you close.
For lpjr range should I go gibson or epiphone
I've never played any of them.
how are you playing it without attenuator? is it loud
I am using an attenuator haha
Sounds a little like my Splawn Quick Rod.
Interesting, I've never played a Splawn.
It does sound quite a bit like the Quick Rod, with more saturation and squish, less stiff, and less thump.
Sounds quite good, but there’s a funny screechy overtone that I think I couldn’t live with. Prefer mine stock.
Yeah, that tone is definitely not everyone's cup of tea haha
Ma una cosa con la mod non ce più bisogno del pedal overdrive
Is it another pre amp tube gain stage or ?
No, just changed the circuit.
Great tone, man. What plugin do you use in Cubase to load the IR’s?
Thanks! I use Pulse for my IRs.
Eddy Lenz
Thanks man.
Do you think the DAW makes any difference in tone? I use Reaper and never got any convincing tone with some OwnHammer IR’s...
@@DelReiRock I've never compared them, but I don't think there's a difference in sound.

@@EddyLenz thank you. Are u still using jcm800?
@@sniperscrayt2441 this 2203 is now my 2ch prototype
@@EddyLenz oh now i understand
too much high gain cathode on pre amp . With full volume guitar on bridge pick up sound "squà squà" on every single attack- perhaps the ratio between cap and resistance on v2 is too unbalanced towards the mid-treeble freq. maybe you need a resistance before the ground between cap and cathode on v2
That's what it's supposed to sound like. The 2nd stage cathode on this mod is quite extreme haha.
@@EddyLenz in fact i write "pheraps" ... but whatever it is, there is too much gain in the mid-high range somewhere. whether it is v2 or anything else it doesn't change that. the attack sounds "squa squa" like a duck.
@@albecenex4890 Yeah, and I'm telling you that that's how it's supposed to sound. If you don't like it, it's fine. That sound is certainly not for everyone and it's not what I go for with my own circuits.
@@EddyLenz I was just wondering if, accepting the project of wanting to increase the gain of the amplifier (which I like and I also do on mine) when one frequency, whatever it is, predominates over the others, you get an excessive clip on it that makes (and always to my taste) the amp very badly, making it seem almost out of tune at times.
In addition to this the attack is excessively strong. Doesn't sound "slash" to me ....
