MOTUC Trap Jaw and Man-at-Arms are my two absolute favorite figures from the line! I'm really enjoying your Vs. videos, it's great to see point by point comparisons. It really shows the evolution of not only the brand, but figures in general.
I have to say that I love the masterverse trap jaw and honestly I think that for what it is for the price it’s a good deal. Motuc figures are too pricey it’s kinda ridiculous that a figure cost so much there isn’t any way I would even attempt to collect motuc so I am glad that masterverse has been out to satisfy that need for that scale of a figure for a reasonable price. Hope they continue bringing out really nice figures like the beast man one.
How can the cost be compared? What was the cost of classics AT THAT TIME? What if you were someone who collected Classics when they came out? Sure you're screwed if you've come late to the party but wouldn't that be said about nearly everything if you started collecting 12 years after the items original availability. Masterverse figures are considered by many to be the classics for those who missed out on classics.
Classics are just art. They play well, pose well and are extremely photogenic. The originals look like they leaped off the minicomic and the latter Club Grayskull with the Filmation variants.
Knew this one wouldn't be close.. MV being the Revelations style while cool in some of its own way, it's not the Trap Jaw we loved as kids. If a New Eternia or just more original one comes out it might be a closer match.. But Classics one just has that perfect look. One of the hardest to beat.
Glad you're putting your money out there doing the comparison..lol..it's a question a lot of people who never had those classics are curious about. Even if Masterverse doesn't get to doing everything they have dramatically lowered the entry cost to have a collection of core MOTU characters...even if you eventually decide to mix in some MOTUC.
I remember when classics came, my second kid had just came along and I had no way to afford them. Looking back I realize now they are just too pricey to ever pick up as I am knee deep in Super 7 lines now but these comparisons really bring it home. I did have the Super 7 Filmation line but sold once I realized they'd never get to complete the line. There is a lot to like with Mattel but seeing the differences with Classics and Masterverse it's just a no go to buy Masterverse. Origins I think is an overall better prospect and way cheaper. Shame they couldn't let Super 7 finish that toon line man.
If I had to pick one line to rule them all, I think Origins has a really good shot, if they can get to enough characters (and avoid being a mattel creations exclusive lol )
I see what you did there. You gave a pity check to Masterverse for articulation. 😂😂😂 As always these are great videos. Thanks for spending so much in order to make them. But maybe since Classics packaging is all the same, you just give that round to Masterverse since it has some sweet art on the back? 😂
Question about the Masterverse and Classic figures. Are the arms and head removable for either series like the original figures and Origins? Or would trying that break them? Same question for 200x Series. It's just I often see things from both lines that I like and I wish I could just mix and match parts from both.
I already knew the outcome of this one before I pressed play. I only collect He-Man, Skeletor and Trap Jaw from each new line but I had skipped Masterverse, for all three, then caved on the 40th He-Man and Skelly. Still was planning on skipping this Trap-Jaw (H-A-T-E that stupid “Wassup” tongue), but I found him today at Target for $9. He’s worth it for $9. Classics Trap-Jaw = 💯 Perfection.
I just picked up trap jaw at target and I HATED paying an extra $10 for crap accessories that I literally threw away as soon as I opened the box. I gave my daughter the cloth maroon thing for her barbies. He’s decent but I hate that price. I have 2 classics trap jaws for obvious reasons and they are glorious
I think it might be a better face off if each category was not just a win or lose but a rating scale. Price alone almost instantly gives the win to the Masterverse figure when you see the other categories, while better on classics, isn’t horrible on the Masterverse figure. If it was a scale of 1-5 and you graded each figure individually and summed up the total it would be a more accurate comparison. I would grade the Classics 1 for price and then 5 for sculpt and paint and accessories but a 3 or 4 for package. Where Masterverse would get a 5 for price and then 3-4 for the other categories and be close to a tie or masterverse squeaking out a 1 point win.
Afraid I just took one look at the Masterverse Trapjaw's face and made a hard pass. Looking forward to seeing the next Masterverse version of the character, though.
This series of videos is AMAZING! But,, as I do not want you to go bankrupt, you can get MOTUC without any box, all of MOTU Classics boxes are mostly the same, so no worries.
Claasics doesnt have the seam at chest where it looks like two figures put together. Motuc put together the original line and update together good. They took they bending knee, almost squatting like stance from the og 1980s ones.
This category of motc vs motuverse has become one of my favorite to watch. Agreed, classics wins on this one. On a side note about the Wundar debacle... Do you think buying more than one figure (aka buying the max of 3) during those mattel exclusive sales, might actually improve your chances to complete the sale? Everyone I know that were trying to get just one stroke out...Conspiracy theory lol
Classics for me. I like the proportions better. I have no use for the extra kibble that comes with the masterverse version. I also don't like that tongue design on Masterverse and that they designed the clip on the extra weapons in a way that makes them difficult to fit on his belt. Really weird and obvious design flaw. I agree that the double joint articulation doesn't work well on chunky MOTU style figures. It's like the awful chunky double joints on old toybiz Marvel Legends which looked terrible, made the proportions odd and always put me off collecting Legends till Hasbro improved it in 2014.
Cost shouldn't even be considered when comparing these figures. You already know, before hand, that the Classics figures are going to be more expensive so why mention it?
I don’t know how you can justify cost as a current category. 12 years ago, the MOTUC Trap Jaw was around 24 dollars I believe. It should be a plus that it’s gained so much value. I guarantee that in 12 years time this crappy “master verse” mass released figure will be about the same value as a 2000X figure. Classics will always have the advantage of being not mass released, making them valuable.
big difference was shipping, it was never just $24. it was a matty collector exclusive and you had to pay 10+ shipping per figure on their website. and i live in the states so i don’t know why it was so expensive. i can’t imagine how much it would be for people from different countries.
@@GeekDadLife it’s apples and oranges. The fair comparison would be the value at the time of release and not 12 years later for the classics. This category should be a win for classics as the figure gained value as time went on.

Filmation never went into the origins of the characters so that doesn't really apply, you can't judge stuff based on what came afterward until it's relevant that why I get so pissed off about the Andra and King Grayskull stuff. Dude… 😳WTH 😂 The Metallic Blue on Classics Trap Jaw is Awful it Detracts from the Figure ! 🤢🤢 the paint apps are great but… that Metallic Stuff looks really bad. Plus the Pins on Classics are so god awful! Revelations Doesn’t have those god awful giant Pins. Revelation also does have art, now while you might not like some artists My kid loves the art on Trap Jaw. I personally feel this figure is a Tie.
I have to say, I like the mechanical arm sculpt on the 200x version the most.
200X still has the best Trap Jaw design, hands down.
I bought an extra Masterverse TJ just to customize into a more detailed 200X version.

Yeah, I don't see even a NE version besting this one, its soooo good!
While I love Classics Trap Jaw, I loath the Metallic Blue, it’s a serious distraction for the fig- doesn’t go at all 🤢🤣.
I will never say anyone is wrong when it comes to opinion. That said, the cult gear on trap jaw and tri-clops is awesome and I love it.
Haha it's all right Chris, it does look really cool, I just dont prefer it as a figure look, but totally support those that like it!
So you're the guy who actually likes that? lol

Yes Beastman, if I would have separated the he man and skeletor video, NE skeletor would have beat the MOTUC version.
