    Two small points:
    (a) You don't actually need a setting tool for the wall anchor at 10:30. Screwing the bolt into the plug also compresses the plug. The setter makes the job faster and more convenient, but it's not necessary.
    (b) the Grip It plug is great for when you have only a very small gap between the plaster board and the wall.

    You don't need to have the tool for hollow wall anchors. They can be set with a screwdriver turning clockwise. Tighten with a screwdriver by hand until you feel resistance. The tool is for easy of use and professionals that need to install hundreds of them a day. To hang a TV and install 4-6 of them just use a screwdriver it will be fine.

    In Australia standard thicknesses are 10mm, 13mm, 16mm

    After switching to gripits, I won't go back, have very heavy mirror, TV, and glass frames on them, but the key thing for them is they work when the plaster is close to the wall. Often you have 25mm working space in a new house, which makes the longer ones no good as you can't get them into the wall.
    Especially good if going around a lintel for curtain rails etc..

  • @mikeregan3174
    @mikeregan3174 6 лет назад +5

    I like how you are testing, but there are a few problems with your process. You need to eliminate / reduce the variables as much as possible. Meaning that - each anchor needs the exact same conditions to be accurately measured - same distance from stud and much farther apart. The first anchor you put in was close to the stud and into a clean piece of drywall... The 6th anchor was maybe 7" from stud and into a wall with 6 other holes, above and beside it. Very different testing surface compared to the first anchor. Also the hanging bracket you are using spreads the weight strain over the 12" length. Whether the bracket is hanging exactly 90 degrees vertically or 93 degrees vertically makes a difference. Your second anchor test has the bottom of the bracket leaning to the left.. this changes the direction of the stress on the anchor. No this is not a big deal... but it is different. An accurate test has only one difference (variable) - the anchor - with everything else being the same.

    • @MelbourneAlan
      @MelbourneAlan 6 лет назад

      i cant understand why they are still being sold in shops. who buys them. i never see them used on any job i have ever been on. the almost never work properly and are really weak when you do get them fitted. they are literly the last plaster board fixing i would use.

    • @luct3368
      @luct3368 6 лет назад +2

      theres one specific condition he didn't cover - on dot dab plasterboard, where you have 5mm-20mm of clearence behind the board. some of the other fittings bottom out and you can't open them up easily. look at the profile of the gripit behind the board during installation. theres no more than 2mm-3mm clearence needed. thats its application for dot dab-ed plasterboard.

    • @ianwebb6182
      @ianwebb6182 5 лет назад

      The main advantage is if there is very little clearance behind the board. A spring toggle can't always fit. That is the whole reason the chap invented them in the first place

    Thanks for this, very informative video. I'm just curious though, do these fixings have a "life"? Because plasterboard is rather soft I can just imagine the arms of the fixings just digging into the plasterboard and eventually being useless.

    Your test is pretty useless tbh, I've used these fittings for more than 5 years on a weekly basis and saw no problem at all. I don't fit them manually but with an impact drill and they don't get lose but get a better grip actually. The only item that it will fail is the toilet roll holder or similar things that get used a lot. All my Tellys in my house are hanged up on the wall with these fitting so maybe you don't really know how to properly use them ?

    • @12tman12
      @12tman12 4 года назад

      Flat screens tend to pull down, not away from the wall, as they are flat and flush. If you're using it for something like he mentioned, cabinets, those pull away from the wall. Also things like grab bars. That goes with the test he designed, notice the bracket was far from the wall. So maybe he's the one who actually knows what he's testing for, as opposed to someone who is hanging something totally different and golly gosh darn has different results.

    • @leobadea409
      @leobadea409 4 года назад

      @@12tman12 I have never seen anyone using those fixing for cabinet hanging lol. The cabinets are not designed to go on the plasterboard wall unless the wall is reinforced with some wood at the back in which case you are not supposed to use those fixings.
