The Rules of American Football:
there are 2 teams, usually 2 American cities. one is offense and one is defense, offensive goal is to get the ball to the end-zone. when they do, it results in them gaining 6 points, or a touchdown. they have a chance to score 1 more point by kicking a field goal.
Defensive goal is to keep the ball from entering the end-zone. they can intercept the ball when the offensive quarterback passes to either the receiver or the running back. they can also try to strip the ball from the player with possession. the line backer's objective is to tackle (sack) the quarterback.
the game is split into 4 15 minute quarters. after the second quarter, they go into half-time. if by the end of the 4 quarter period, the two teams are tied, the game with go into over-time, where whatever team scores a touchdown first wins.
this Sunday, February 1st, 2015, the main football event will begin, the Super Bowl, where the 2 "best" teams of the season will compete for the championship.

field goal is whe nyou opt for a field goal instead of another try at a first down and it counts for 3 points. point after is after you score you can choose to kick it for 1 point or try to get another touchdown in one play for 2 points.

To be honest... Rugby players aren't afraid of getting tackled or tackling (just like american football players) but to all the people saying that players die in american football, you need to realise that many sport players die in their sport so don't be so ignorant. Also... Rugby is better than american football because there aren't as many breaks as you get in american football-not evey tackle you pause to set up, we just ruck over and start again. And really.....any rugby player would destroy an American football player either game they play because since rugby does not require pads-with or without pads, we'd be tougher than the Americans football players.
If american football players had no pads people would die from how hard we hit.

Yes you may be right with the magnitude part but if you think about the rules behind the tackles that you do in rugby compared to American football. My American friend (who plays American Football) told me that you can tackle in any way you want. I've also heard from many other Americans that you get injured more in American football than you do with rugby. What i'm trying to get across is that i don't see the point in wearing 'protective clothing' when you are out to hurt that person-I'm sure you don't see MMA fighters or boxers wearing protective gear when their goal IS to hurt that person. If you gonna play a contact sport, you might as well play it as it is and TAKE the contact. And YOU my friend need to find that people leave their so-called 'ignorance' all over youtube and you are not to judge my 'ignorance' when you don't even know that i have played both games and experienced the force of the tackles. To be honest, using your head to collide with another isn't the most sensible idea. I love when people say football is rugby with armor. Armor hahaahahh is called shoulder pads and secondly what rugby player is 6ft 8 in 300 pounds not sure of the conversions but no rugby player is that big now you get tackled by one of those guys and your done like FOREVER so "armor" is necessary to save lives lol american football players are all enormous even the short they are just complete beats
But rugby players have more momentum because they are running faster. I don't believe a 300lb player can ran that fast, meaning his hit wont be as hard as a guy running twice as fast but only 250lbs

because if you accept the penalty then you put the penalty into place instead of the touchdown and the penalty replaces the previous play. If you decline a penalty, the previous play stays the same
