in illustrator you can go to advanced settings in image trace and click "ignore white" and you won't have the white part of the vector. Very handy hack.
Absolute quickest way to make vector from physical sketch: Adobe Capture (free app) add/take photo > Shapes (tweak settings if needed) tap bottom circle checkmark > Style (toggle Smooth) > finished. Takes under a minute for any image
Crazy easy and helpful! Just used this method to vectorize comic-style lineart with heavy shadowing. For anyone whose lines still don't appear smooth enough in areas by the image trace step, Object-> Path-> Simplify is a good way to iron those out.
That was great. Thanks for sharing that - really learnt a lot. Never thought to blur and use threshold to get that effect. One thing I found recently that might save you a few clicks: Image Trace has an option where you can 'Ignore White' in the panel. This just traces the black and gives you a transparent background. Thanks Ray! Love your work.
I think you just helped me find my escape from my miserable 9-5 day job… I’ve always been a doodler, but I never took drawing serious. I never knew it was this easy to take a 1-3 inch drawing and make a digital illustration out of it. Seriously.. thank you so much! I’m now in the market for some good drawing classes, an iPad + Pencil, Adobe CC, and a cricut maker! Cheers to making 100% custom stickers 💪🏼😎💪🏼
Really great tutorial! I really enjoy using procreate for the flexibility but it misses the quality that Photoshop and Illustrator bring. Now I know how to incorporate all three into my work flow. Thank you so much!
Ray, thank you for talking about your hacks. Love the gaussian blur added to digital line before taking it to image trace. This solves the exhaustive hunt for the smoothest vector brush issue.( I’ll do anything to avoid using the pen tool to draw! ) lol!!! Also thank you for the tip about skelly.
thank you so much! this was exactly what i was searching for. i always got frustrated when i "tried" to draw in illustrator because it is not that flexible but this seems way more easier!
Thanks for the tutorial! Personally I tend to rather do things by hand rather than using a huge bulk of the software like the pen tool or cutting out shapes. It's not as perfect, but it leaves in the human aura.
Hi, great video, so helpful! I have a couple questions, 1) I don't have an ipad yet I only use my PC so no procreate. What would be the process from sketch directly to illustrator? How might I need to adjust the image trace settings in AI if I'm going directly from my sketch? After image trace would I then open it up in Photoshop to do the blur and threshold, then back to illustrator? 2) What type of file should you save as when done with the outline, keeping the background transparent, PNG? 3) If I can't afford a MAC and still use my PC, could I still get an iPad and use procreate, so what I'm asking is would that be a messy compatibility issue taking images from procreate into adobe CC on my PC? Is it worth the investment or should I just use what I have? This is for a business I'm creating- primarily t-shirt graphics- using print on demand 4) Do you have a video on how to fill in some color to your graphics after this process is done? If not could you make one? Thanks to anyone that could help me out with these answers!
Wow what a great tutorial! Super simple way of doing it. I have a question. Once you have it vectorized in illustrater. Do you go through and simplify the shapes so there’s less anchor points throughout the image?
Maaaan, you helped me so much with this tutorial!!! I always love to draw in Procreate, and when it comes to Illustrator I don't really know how to implement those ideas/drawings. But this is so helpful, since I struggle to use illustrator tools, paths ... Thank You!! :D
Hey there - I like your art & this method but was wondering if it might be easier to export as an SVG and then airdrop and go straight to Illustrator to start adding in colors if necessary? Would that work? I know you put it in photoshop to clean it up how you like it but I would think to get it vectorized first and then clean it up unless I'm thinking of it a different way Hahaha
How vital is vectorization after Procreate? I assume it is necessary for Tshirt prints but what are the beneficts? In which cases vectorization of a Procreate/ps image is necessary?
Where is a tracer where u can have different images to make one collage image.....that's what I'm looking for. Like project images on a big tracing tablet instead of printing multiple images to save paper
I have a very detailed piece of hand drawn artwork that I commissioned someone to create for me. It is a wonky, Salvador Dali-ish floral composition. What software should I use to scan it in with a very high resolution in order for me to prepare the drawing for applying color to it in different colorways. the artwork was drawn on a 15x24 piece of paper. Please contact me as soon as possible.
So, this wasn't literally a conversion using software to convert a pencil sketch into a vector graphic. You still had to re-draw/trace over the original sketch. (I thought this would show software, like Illustrator, to vectorize.)
TNice tutorials video is a great introduction to soft soft for beginners. I would Nice tutorialghly recomnd tNice tutorials tutorial to anyone starting out with soft soft.

hown you change the color???? it seem like it changes the outline but not within the face
I was wondering how much will it cost to make a logo design

Tyvm
But dont you lose start to finish customization
?
Do I have to use smooth? Every time I do, it makes my curved lines square
Best device ever! Thanks!
You do lose a lot of edit capabilities and customization. For a professional looking product you’re better off tracing and proceeding from there.

okay, and how you add color?

It worked for my 64-bit PC. Thanks a lot.
Bro your designs are sick!👊🏻
It’s totally worth learning new skills cause then you get excited and confident to create
You saved my life this morning... just saying. THANK YOU. Jeff
Do you have a video on how to setup illustrator tools around the screen for basic users?
2:49 that's what I needed, thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial! Personally I tend to rather do things by hand rather than using a huge bulk of the software like the pen tool or cutting out shapes. It's not as perfect, but it leaves in the human aura.
Beautiful,nice sharing friend😃✌️

This was so nicely done and your vectors are amazing. Thanks a lot bro 🤜

Long time subscriber, always great work my man!

Thank you. Is there a way to do this using apps on the iPad so that only the iPad is used?

This tutorial is GOLD!!! :)

How do you make your lines and curves so clean perfect ? Mine end up looking squiggly instead of clean . Any advice ?
In procreate you can add more stabilization to brushes if you need it to be less squiggly.
Thanks for beautiful informative video 👏👌 Really nice drawing btw
Can you help me on the name of the apps you use to draw on your taplet ? 🙏
Can we just use only Procreate to make good film design for screen printing
Thank you so much, this was so helpful!
What kind of I pad do you have?
hey how do you select same fill color before deleting?
if I have a drawing how much would you charge to make it look cleaner with no pencil marka
Amazing content, thank you!
Can you only do the second part on a Macbook?
Where is a tracer where u can have different images to make one collage image.....that's what I'm looking for.
Like project images on a big tracing tablet instead of printing multiple images to save paper
Sheesh this is extremely useful.
Do you need procreate to do this or can I still do it on Illustrator?
Hi had a question do you have a course ? I’m trying to learn how to make all my drawings into graph work lol I’m really good at drawing

do you have the drawing app on iphones ? or just ipads?
Did you even watch the video?
Hey you do great work.. can you please make a simple logo for me?
How do you convert drawings into vector (without ipad)? With an ipad its really nothing special.
what ipad is this?

Thanks!!!!!
What I pad is this?

i really need your help
thank you for the very simplistic explanation of how tNice tutorialngs work. tNice tutorials is the best explanation I have co across on you tube.
Anyone can do that. The big deal is how to vectorize a lineart without drawing it freehand. Now where do I find a tutorial on that?
Amazing
I need someone to do this for me .. I don’t know their title… how could I search a person to do this ?
Did you mention that you’re using Illustrator on pc
the man
are your sketches available as NFTs?
Or drawings
@TheVectorLab can you make a personal logo for me
This is not a conversion but you just manually draw over a sketch.
4000 pixels? :) I usually set it to 300 for printing. Oh man, if I'd put it at 4000px, my pc would freeze, in fact, the whole galaxy would. lol
Hey, anyone here who could help me with vectorizing a sketch? Please drop a comment so that I could personally connect. Thanks
nice video unfortunately this only works if you have an IPAD to facilitate the drawing process
The sketch looks like it’s from Smoxd
Hey,
This Is Amazing But No Use To Me, I'd Have To Buy An iPad And An Apple Pencil 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ But I'm An Android Windows User So This Is Usless 😫
That’s pretty metal lol
Ok but you can draw
Thanks 🥲*sniff*
yeah.. "toy" skull
