Totally agree with you & Diane in Denmark about Christmas🎇 wrapping paper. Last year I found an organization that provides gifts to seniors and donated all of our back stock of Christmas wrapping paper🤶🧑🎄⛄🎄 Less is more for gifts, and time spent together is more important, family, friends, neighbors etc. It will be different for everyone, there maybe local Holiday play or shows to attend, have a cookie bake off, plan a night for favorite food and watch a movie everyone loves, game night with holiday treats, volunteer some time at a local food bank (anytime of year so it's not in December), or help out a neighbor.
I am a mom of 4 young (and not so young) adults. So we decided to change up tradition this year. Instead of buying the kids presents, we are buying experiences. We will take each child out individually (and with their significant other if they have one) for something (a hockey game, dinner and a museum, the hi-line in NYC, etc.) sometime within the year (preferably within 6 months). And christmas morning instead of opening presents we will have breakfast and play board/card games with whichever kids are in town.
Love the comment about not Christmas-fying everything. There is so much pressure to buy everything christmas! Even salt and pepper shakers!! Freeing yourself from that is key!! Thanks
Xmas gifts for my son is: one book on Xmas Eve and 2 gifts for Xmas day. For the adults: $50 budget per couple gift bag. The trick is to purchase gifts throughout the year. I decorate on the 22nd December. It takes me an hour. My Xmas tree has LED tips and that's all it has. Fill up the petrol/gas tank on the 23rd December.
I only have an Advent wreath and a creche, which is really all I need. As for wrapping paper, I used to use wedding wrapping paper (whites, flowers), which are easy on the eyes.
Absolutely love all your videos!! I am relatively a New subscriber and find you to be so inspiring, interesting and funny at the same time😊. You are one of my favorite you tubers!! Thanks for all you do;)
One thing I started doing when my kids were about 13 is I gave them a few household items for Christmas . Each year I would pick up things for a kitchen or bathroom that I found on really great sales and give them as gifts. They are stored in bins and when they move out they will already have a lot of what they’ll need. I didn’t really count these as gifts because I knew they weren’t super thrilled at the time to receive mixing bowls but it was a fun way to add the gift opening.
It's a version of hope chests. Which are a great idea. Helps to prepare for future independence. For my eldest sons 12th birthday, I got him fresh, everyday kitchen herbs. More than a decade later, that's been one of his most memorable and favorite gifts received
At Christmas time more is more in my house! You can film a Lifetime or Hallmark Christmas movie all December in my house 🥰 But in January I'm also happy to get my more minimalist house back
Fantastic insights! We've let all our old Christmas items - GO... sharing them with others is a great way to release the need for storage of this seasonal STUFF... love it thanks for the insights!
One of our favorite traditions for the holidays is baking. We put together a list Thanksgiving weekend of our favorites plus several new recipes to try. We usually bake about 8-12 varieties. Now that we are nearly 60 we break the baking up into three days because it is a lot of work being on your feet for so long. And of course I play Christmas music to set the mood. Happy holidays to you and your family!
Great video as always! I agree about the holiday decor. I’ve been trying to downsize for every holiday and it is very challenging. I’ve noticed when I put up too many decorations it looks cluttered and I’m ready to take it down. I decorate for every holiday; however I’ve been decluttering what I do not use anymore. It’s been helping a lot. Each year I’m hoping to have less. Of course, Halloween is the only season I haven’t tackled yet. I can do this!!!! 💪🏻
My nana did almost the same thing but it was limited to 2 gifts, something you need (usually clothes) and something you want (toy or book) etc. it definitely made Christmas special
Thank you for making things much simpler. So many home maker channels spend tons of money and they go overboard. Pretty to visit like Disney but I don't want it and I don't have the storage in my house for all that stuff.
Thank you for the list! I was sad when I thought you didn’t include your picks with the blank list. It was so thoughtful! Can you share any of your recipes? The mushroom dip especially stood out to me 😋 💕
I prefer the game where you don't open the boxes in advance. Everyone should decide if the want "what in that box?" then everyone opens at once when the game is over. Must more fun!
My boyfriend and I decided to take the pressure off of gift giving. But we both liked the tradition we had made of opening gifts, so we decided to only do stockings and the money we saved from not doing a bunch of gifts we use for travel or getting new furniture we need. So we still have fun but in a more practical way. And we aren’t giving gifts just for the sake of giving gifts… which causes more clutter!
Great tips. I could never wrap presents up in brown paper. I hate the colour brown & if I saw pressies around my tree in brown paper I would get really depressed. The brighter the better for me. Even tho I’m single & live alone I put loads of Christmas decs up. I love them. The Christmas ads have just started being shown in the UK & they’re great. Do you have special Christmas ads in the US?
I use the Sunday comics section and old road maps as wrapping paper. My nieces and nephews used to laugh at it but now they love it! Oh, and we call that present game The Yankee Swap.
hey there omg i ´m dreading decorating for christmas to be honest i´d rather not do it! All those knicknacks around my home ughh only to take it down and store it! Cringe!!! I´m decluttering and giving away most of my christmas decorations and trinkets... Love your channel
I am so very sorry for your loss and am sending you giant virtual hugs. I know it must feel so empty right now and as if the wind has been knocked out of you. Would it be possible to do something in his honor for the season like volunteering for a cause that mattered to him or writing down your favorite memories in a journal to share at some time?
I'm so sorry. My mom passed away at the end of October several years ago. One month later and I was trying to get the Christmas tree up and decorated. Within a week I knew I couldn't finish the rest of the decorating. I decided to take down the tree and take care of myself that Christmas. It's Ok to not be Ok. Take the time you need and do what's best for your heart. ((Hugs))
Robyn, I would love to get your Holiday Planning Handbook, but the link doesn't work for me. It won't let me put my name or email address in... help. By the way, I absolutely love your RUclips channel!
Great video 📹 Robin and Thank you for the free planner. Love your hair. 👌 Video on doing your curly hair would be wonderful. My girls have curly long hair 👏
But all the Hallmark Christmas movies are telling us we can NEVER have enough decor and garland. 😄😄😄
They tell you that don’t they?
😂😂😂😂😂 yesss!
😂
You are so FUN to watch. You are dynamic and sassy and excited about what you’re talking about. I so appreciate that as a viewer! Thank you!!!
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much!
She definitely knows how to keep the ADHDers (and everyone else) engaged! 🙂

We did this with our daughter and it made a huge difference!

We switch out our Christmas decor within the family keeps it fresh and light
Cool! Do you mean that rotate decor items from house to house?
Thank you for the PLANNER! Bless you how great it is to "borrow" from others success stories! Love you for this ! Kathy
You are so welcome!

Yes! You can totally do this! Go go go!
Kids get 4 gifts: Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read. Adults draw names and have a spending limit.
I love this advice. I would add one more. Something we give…where the kids choose a gift to donate to a charity.
My nana did almost the same thing but it was limited to 2 gifts, something you need (usually clothes) and something you want (toy or book) etc. it definitely made Christmas special
Lovely traditions! Thanks to all of you for sharing!
Good tips.
Thanks!

Hooray! Yes… only having a bit will make it way less overwhelming and more enjoyable!
I have zero energy for any celebration , my hubs just died We so loved our little homegrown Christmases.
Oh I’m so sorry Jeanne ❤️

Hmm, that is strange as it’s working for others. Can you try again in a different browser?
