At 9:41 a.m., an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred 24 kilometers southeast of Bandung County, West Java Province. Although the epicenter was on land, the earthquake still caused severe damage, injuring 82 people, 23 of them seriously, and damaging more than 700 houses and public facilities.
The earthquake's focal depth was only 10 kilometers, so it was quite destructive. At that time, many residents were at home or working and were caught off guard by the strong shaking. Many people screamed and rushed outside, seeking safe cover.
"I was having breakfast at home when the earthquake happened. Suddenly, the whole house started shaking violently. I was so scared that I hugged the table. My children also ran out screaming with me," recalled Alice, a Bandung resident. .
The earthquake not only had a serious impact on residents' lives, but also caused damage to local infrastructure. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway connecting Jakarta and Bandung had to suspend operations to check whether the railway line was damaged. All 11 local train lines in Bandung have also been suspended to ensure the safety of passengers.
