    I got the medium sized one with the oil feee pump for Christmas. Love it so much. It’s running everyday right now as I harvest and freeze dry garden fresh produce! I love how simple it is to use. It’s a little noisy but I have it in my mud room so I can close the door and not hear it throughout the house.

My bread is in there now testing and cleaning out the new car smells. I got the premiere pump with the medium-sized freeze dryer. The trays seem small, but I am sure it will be plenty for our small family.

I saw one of these freeze dryers when I was in Tractor Supply recently, and I thought about how nice it would be to have freeze dried fruit and vegetables from my garden in the middle of winter. The commercially freeze dried fruit and vegetables rehydrate very nicely.

    We just bought a "scratch and dent" model direct from Harvest Right, hubby and I got a tax refund this year and put it in on the dryer. Living in the middle of nowhere as we do we're a good 2 1/2 hour drive to a WalMart or WinCo store to stock up on groceries. After losing 2 freezers full of frozen food in the past (we were evacuated due to a wildfire and they cut power to our area) I think this is a wise investment for us. We also think with the uncertainty of things it's a good idea to be prepared with a long lasting food supply. Thanks for posting your video, it was a big help!

    Congrats on your new addiction. I've been freeze drying since January and I saw a mistake you made. Your trays should be warm, not cold when the cycle is done.If they are cold then you missed your extended dry time window, and the machine will refreeze the food to protect it. At that point you're starting the cycle over. Mose people will add extra dry time to the custom settings just in case they're not around when the cycle finishes. I added 12 hours to mine. You are also going to want to put a small fan aimed at the green section of vacuum pump. Good luck. Blue.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the tips. The cycle finished when I was asleep and I'll modify times as I learn more.

    • @janb8015
      @janb8015 Год назад +2

      Invest in a scale that measures in grams. The 100% sure fire way to be certain your food is completely dry is to weigh the trays in grams when the cycle says it is complete, put the trays back in the machine and set additional drying time for at least 2 hrs (this is different than your extra dry time that is in your settings). After the additional 2 hrs is up weigh the trays again. If they lost more than 2 grams of moisture put them back in the machine for another 2 hrs until when weighed they have not lost more than 1 gram of moisture. That is when you will know they are completely dry. THEN you can either manually defrost or have the machine do the defrost.

    • @susanc1265
      @susanc1265 Год назад +2

      It isn’t starting the cycle over, it’s preserving the food until you can get it out. My manual reads-WARM TRAYS: The freeze drying process includes warming the trays. Trays will be warm immediately after the batch ends. If you are unable to remove trays immediately after a batch ends, the unit will cool and freeze the material that was freeze dried. This safely preserves your food until you are ready to remove it. The extremely cold trays can be uncomfortable to remove with bare hands. To avoid this, you may use gloves, hot pads, or, simply warm the trays. Push the WARM TRAYS option on the screen and wait 5-10 minutes before unloading.

    Hi Scott, thanks for the video, it was super helpful! I just bought mine and was wanting to know if the drain valve for water has to be higher than the bucket it goes into? Also how long does the oil last usually, ie when will I have to replenish? Finally I was just wondering if you always have to wait in between batches or can you pop the next batch in immediately? Please let me know, thanks!

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  6 месяцев назад

      Hi! Yes, the valve should be higher than the drain to avoid backflow. Harvest Right says you don't need to change oil until 20+ cycles. You can do a new batch right away but it depends on how much water was removed. There can be a lot of ice buildup and I would suggest thawing and draining it so it runs best.

  • @MrJoebn3

I have been watching how to' video's, but, I can't seem to find this answer. When you were done with the bread, if you had something to freeze dry, would you have been able to start a new batch? Or do they recommend that you defrost and start over?
