Funny enough, the manual actually _does_ go into more detail about this "Toads are blocks" thing! See, when it gets around to explaining powerups, the justification is that the Toads are helping Mario by giving him those items and coins. _In other words,_ the very manual that started this "murdering mushrooms" thing also outright dismisses it! The Toads are, canonically, all the _non-breakable_ blocks in the first game. And _only_ the first game (and Lost World). By the time Mario gets the ability to smash _those_ kinds of blocks, the Toad transformation gambit had _loooong_ been abandoned by Bowser!

Should it be noted that the implications in almost all Mario Games is that the Bros are going on an adventure together. And that very few of the games actually imply Mario going Alone. Fun fact. Mario also thinks very highly of Luigi. As in Mario Bros 2. Mario dreams of Luigi going on a grand adventure with him, Peach, and Toad.

Which formed because games like Super Mario Land 1 and 2, and Super Mario 64 were games where Luigi never showed up. There were adventures where Luigi was never there were the latest in the series at the time Paper Mario 64 happened, and the Devs likely wanted to add the remark of Luigi feeling bad he can't go on an adventure with Mario, who was going solo on ANOTHER adventure. And to be fair, Luigi wouldn't go on another major adventure with Mario until 2011, so the Devs were actually rather lucky in their choice of dialogue for Luigi.

My only argument would be from one external logic point and one internal logic point. External Logic: People believe Mario and Jumpman are two different people, because Nintendo based Mario on a pre-existing cartoon character named Popeye the Sailor. Popeye has a father named Poopdeck Pappy, who was created to not only make Popeye more relatable as a character, but to have angry parents stop complaining about Popeye as a character. Internal Logic: it’s very likely that Jumpman is as much of the OG Arcade character as Cranky’s claim to being the OG DK, since Game Boy Donkey Kong came out a few months before Donkey Kong Country; the former game featured a DK with a necktie and tells us it takes place before “Donkey Kong Jr.”, while the latter gives us stories from Cranky, and his bias towards modern game development tells us why the DK in the Game Boy game is not the same as the Arcade DK (especially when the instruction manual to GBA's Mario vs. Donkey Kong says "it looks like Donkey Kong is up to his old tricks again; implying that Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a spiritual sequel to Game Boy Donkey Kong). Regardless, it still doesn’t change who Mario is *now.*
Since matpat himself uses a clip from the Mario rpgs when starting his rant on how Mario hates Luigi, it’s only fair to bring up events from those games to prove this theorist wrong. In Bowser’s inside story, the bros find frozen shroobs in the basement of Bowser’s castle. Starlow gives Luigi a hard time, and claims that Mario probably did most of the work required to defeat this alien menace, but Mario actually defends his brother’s honor, telling Starlow that it was actually Luigi who delivered the final blow against the invaders.

Normally you'd just run as Luigi until it was done, but instead Mario jumps on the airship to play whack a shy guy and hits the Bowser face with his hammer until the ship breaks

Given Cranky’s biased comments about modern technology he spewed in DKC1, and that the Donkey Kong in the Game Boy game wore a necktie, it’s possible that Modern DK has done a bad thing as much as his grandfather, and that he wanted to reject giving up so easily as his grandfather did. I have no canonical evidence for this but here’s a headcanon this video reminded me of. With SMO in the mix l like to believe that Mario and Pauline drifted apart romantically around the time she got into local government. Pauline wanted to change the abusive animal handling scenarios that caused Cranky Kong (Donkey Kong l) to go berserk. She ended up getting a lot of grassroot support and found herself wrapped up in so much work she didn’t have much time for the relationship anymore. Not long after Mario and Luigi went off in aid of Princess Toadstool (not yet on a first name basis) for the first time. Obviously Mario and Pauline are still friends - they play sports and do fun projects together - but their lives are so different now than they were when they fell for each other. It’s bittersweet in some ways, but they’ve both grown and their both better people for it.
My Headcanon was more based on Donkey Kong ‘94 for the Game Boy, Modern DK’s original classic-based design used in that game, and how Cranky’s comments about his supposed Arcade appearance would indicate that Arcade DK and Game Boy DK are not the same Kong.

Many exes have a grudge or something that makes them hate each other, but Mario & Pauline? No! Mario brings her to the opening of the Mini Marios as a Special Guest, makes her her own Mini Pauline toy, and goes to save her after DK kidnaps her. I don’t think Mario would go through all that trouble if he was a bad person. If he was the bad person MatPat wants us to believe, he would probably just forget about her and do nothing.

I remember when this theory originally came out, and it absolutely broke me. What got me the most upset was how passionate and convincingly angry MatPat was (especially that "fired up" tangent) In regards to Luigi, I always considered his cowardice and jealousy somewhat stemmed from Peach favoring Mario. Peach started inviting Mario exclusively to events (most notably the 3D games), and those events ended up leading into adventures. Eventually, this spiraled into Mario receiving most of the spotlight, which was amplified through his and Peach's relationship. It would explain why Mario gets occasionally egotistical and Luigi has some subconscious doubt. Regardless, they still fully support and care for each other as shown through a lot of stuff that came out that year (I never got over the fact that Dark Moon AND Dream Team came out the same year and still before MatPat's theory)
Also there's the implication that some of those adventures were supposed to be Mario and Peach's dates so it makes sense why Mario didn't bring his brother because would you want your younger sibling coming with you to your date?
You made an excellent job on debunking the theory with legit and valid evidence. I swear to God, I have a feeling that Matpat is basically on "Team Bowser" or basically a massive Bowser stan. Given with the comment on Baby Mario being fed to the enemies. I mean, imagine a timeline, where that happened or the Mario Brothers never existed. Bowser would've taken over the Mushroom Kingdom without any issues. Don't get me started on what he'll do to Peach, if he won. Also, sidenote: Donkey Kong Circus is not even an original game, as it's basically a reskin of a game, starring Mickey and Donald. Overall, there are so many issues and as MangaKamen said, yet MatPat keeps praising this one as his Magnum Opus. I would go further into details on the other flaws, but again MangaKamen did a video about the issues.

I love how MidPat tried to use a Mario and Luigi game to try to prove his point when it's the one franchise that showcases their strong brotherhood relationship the most. In PiT Mario got mad at that one star door that made Luigi cry. And whenever Luigi dies, Mario always shouts out his name and keeps fighting while holding his dead body on his back... I feel like there's another point worth mentioning that not only would disprove this theory but also make it VERY messed up if taken at face value (well, more than it already is, of course). It's about the "relationship" between Mario and Pauline: MatPat believes that both the "mental" theory and the "timeline" theory hold up; in other words, even though Jumpman is clearly stated in the latter theory to be Mario's father, Mario is still a dangerous sociopath and womanizer. What Matpat fails to realize is this: if Jumpman is Mario's father, and Mario is potentially seeing Pauline on the side, _IT IMPLIES HE COMMITTED PATRICIDE TO HAVE INTERCOURSE WITH HIS OWN MOTHER._ Do you see just how wrong that is to even so much as type, let alone imagine?

I have my own theory about this Game Theory trilogy, that MatPat is just trying to justify his shipping of Luigi and Peach. The first part; Rosalina Unmasked, was an attempt to gaslight people into thinking that his ship could be canon. The second part; The Mario Timeline's Shocking Reveal, is a long winded excuse to explain what happens to Mario after Luigi gets together with Peach and why he would be okay with that. The third part; Mario is Mental, is MatPat being upset that people are annoyed that he wants his ship to be canon and drawing arbitrary lines to justify why Peach doesn't deserve Mario. This explains why he doesn't hold the same standards of Mario's "villainy" to Luigi, he likes Luigi better than Mario, he wants Luigi to end up with Peach.

Honestly, Undertale and Deltarune have both addressed the whole "Player choice over the character" shtick. These types of games couldn't do that because A) that wasn't even an idea in their heads with how new and fresh the gaming frontier was back then and B) because of the hardware limitations. Sure, Square Enix and Earthbound tried to work within these limitations though that's two other game creators vision. You can try to paint a dark interpretation into a game full of cartoony charm, but that's like trying to say that Bugs Bunny is a bully or Daffy Duck is intentionally destructive or that Micky Mouse is a real psychopath or that Donald Duck' anger issues are a problem, or Goofy himself is too stupid to understand the world around him, when that literally isn't the original creator's intention or in the case of Bugs Bunny, was actively avoided.

MatPat's "theories" remind me of my schizophrenic grandpa's ramblings. I'm not saying MatPat has schizophrenia, but he certainly seems to go in weird almost incoherent tangents. His theories also remind me of various conspiracy nut theories. Like the one conspiracy theory about lizard people secretly are running the country and are wearing masks to blend in with society. It sounds like it could be a matpat theory if you just apply it to Legend of Zelda or Pokemon or Minecraft or whatever.

Look, while I agree with the point that MatPat has gone on record saying that he'll cherry-pick "evidence" for his theories to tell the narrative he's trying to tell, that in no way implies that he actually believes his theories as fact. You accuse MatPat of taking little things and blowing them way out of proportion, yet you're guilty of doing that yourself. In my point of view, as a person who used to believe every single Game Theory put out there but has since grown up and regards his videos as nothing more than light entertainment, I see that quote you used at the end of the video as a purposeful defamation of MatPat as a person, flying in the face of your own pre-video disclaimer. What the quote actually implies, looking at the big picture, is that MatPat is trying to tell a specific narrative, in other words, for entertainment that is in no way meant to be fact or implied as such. MatPat, in the most basic terms of his profession, is an entertainer. If he _were_ indeed regarding these theories as unequivocally canon, then yes, it would be quite unethical for him to cherry-pick only the evidence and lore that fits his theory, but looking at it from the much more likely scope of just entertainment, then a little embellishment to tell a good story is just par for the course for any good entertainer. As he says in every single Game Theory video, "that's just a theory", meaning that he isn't taking his own theories as fact, nor is he encouraging anyone else to do so. The fact that less mature viewers that watch his videos and believe them to be true is irrelevant because, as I said, I used to be one of those less mature viewers. Then, I grew up, and started to see theory videos, like MatPat's as what they really are: entertainment that you can put on in the background while doing other activities.

I feel like matpat just cares about money now. He doesnt care about the theories, he doesnt care about the genre, or game, or _show._ His theories have fallen dry and make zero sense anymore and I've lost respect for him.
Are you saying that because of this theory? Because this theory is years old before he had a bigger team to help him with fact checking and yet your comment implies you think it's a recent one that's bad and was only made for money. Also Matpat just announced recently that he's retiring from being the face of the theory channels so he can spend more time with his family. I don't see how that is being focused more on money.

Funny enough, the manual actually _does_ go into more detail about this "Toads are blocks" thing! See, when it gets around to explaining powerups, the justification is that the Toads are helping Mario by giving him those items and coins.
_In other words,_ the very manual that started this "murdering mushrooms" thing also outright dismisses it! The Toads are, canonically, all the _non-breakable_ blocks in the first game. And _only_ the first game (and Lost World). By the time Mario gets the ability to smash _those_ kinds of blocks, the Toad transformation gambit had _loooong_ been abandoned by Bowser!

My only argument would be from one external logic point and one internal logic point.
External Logic: People believe Mario and Jumpman are two different people, because Nintendo based Mario on a pre-existing cartoon character named Popeye the Sailor. Popeye has a father named Poopdeck Pappy, who was created to not only make Popeye more relatable as a character, but to have angry parents stop complaining about Popeye as a character.
Internal Logic: it’s very likely that Jumpman is as much of the OG Arcade character as Cranky’s claim to being the OG DK, since Game Boy Donkey Kong came out a few months before Donkey Kong Country; the former game featured a DK with a necktie and tells us it takes place before “Donkey Kong Jr.”, while the latter gives us stories from Cranky, and his bias towards modern game development tells us why the DK in the Game Boy game is not the same as the Arcade DK (especially when the instruction manual to GBA's Mario vs. Donkey Kong says "it looks like Donkey Kong is up to his old tricks again; implying that Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a spiritual sequel to Game Boy Donkey Kong).

Since matpat himself uses a clip from the Mario rpgs when starting his rant on how Mario hates Luigi, it’s only fair to bring up events from those games to prove this theorist wrong. In Bowser’s inside story, the bros find frozen shroobs in the basement of Bowser’s castle. Starlow gives Luigi a hard time, and claims that Mario probably did most of the work required to defeat this alien menace, but Mario actually defends his brother’s honor, telling Starlow that it was actually Luigi who delivered the final blow against the invaders.

Actually, an addendum to my starting comment: the other big factor he used to conclude that it was realistic hypnosis was the speed of it all. You know...ignoring the fact that magic powers exist in SPM to make up the speed difference, and we can hear an electric-like sound when Nastasia uses her power, suggesting a torture-like brainwashing.
I have no canonical evidence for this but here’s a headcanon this video reminded me of.
With SMO in the mix l like to believe that Mario and Pauline drifted apart romantically around the time she got into local government. Pauline wanted to change the abusive animal handling scenarios that caused Cranky Kong (Donkey Kong l) to go berserk. She ended up getting a lot of grassroot support and found herself wrapped up in so much work she didn’t have much time for the relationship anymore. Not long after Mario and Luigi went off in aid of Princess Toadstool (not yet on a first name basis) for the first time.
Obviously Mario and Pauline are still friends - they play sports and do fun projects together - but their lives are so different now than they were when they fell for each other. It’s bittersweet in some ways, but they’ve both grown and their both better people for it.
My Headcanon was more based on Donkey Kong ‘94 for the Game Boy, Modern DK’s original classic-based design used in that game, and how Cranky’s comments about his supposed Arcade appearance would indicate that Arcade DK and Game Boy DK are not the same Kong.

I remember when this theory originally came out, and it absolutely broke me. What got me the most upset was how passionate and convincingly angry MatPat was (especially that "fired up" tangent)
In regards to Luigi, I always considered his cowardice and jealousy somewhat stemmed from Peach favoring Mario. Peach started inviting Mario exclusively to events (most notably the 3D games), and those events ended up leading into adventures. Eventually, this spiraled into Mario receiving most of the spotlight, which was amplified through his and Peach's relationship. It would explain why Mario gets occasionally egotistical and Luigi has some subconscious doubt. Regardless, they still fully support and care for each other as shown through a lot of stuff that came out that year (I never got over the fact that Dark Moon AND Dream Team came out the same year and still before MatPat's theory)

It's about the "relationship" between Mario and Pauline: MatPat believes that both the "mental" theory and the "timeline" theory hold up; in other words, even though Jumpman is clearly stated in the latter theory to be Mario's father, Mario is still a dangerous sociopath and womanizer. What Matpat fails to realize is this: if Jumpman is Mario's father, and Mario is potentially seeing Pauline on the side, _IT IMPLIES HE COMMITTED PATRICIDE TO HAVE INTERCOURSE WITH HIS OWN MOTHER._ Do you see just how wrong that is to even so much as type, let alone imagine?

I won’t lie this theory video is what caused me to stop watching game theory all together. Plus his “COUGH Theories COUGH” are inconsistent & has a addiction of antagonizing main protagonists.
I have my own theory about this Game Theory trilogy, that MatPat is just trying to justify his shipping of Luigi and Peach. The first part; Rosalina Unmasked, was an attempt to gaslight people into thinking that his ship could be canon. The second part; The Mario Timeline's Shocking Reveal, is a long winded excuse to explain what happens to Mario after Luigi gets together with Peach and why he would be okay with that. Honestly, Undertale and Deltarune have both addressed the whole "Player choice over the character" shtick. These types of games couldn't do that because A) that wasn't even an idea in their heads with how new and fresh the gaming frontier was back then and B) because of the hardware limitations. Sure, Square Enix and Earthbound tried to work within these limitations though that's two other game creators vision. You can try to paint a dark interpretation into a game full of cartoony charm, but that's like trying to say that Bugs Bunny is a bully or Daffy Duck is intentionally destructive or that Micky Mouse is a real psychopath or that Donald Duck' anger issues are a problem, or Goofy himself is too stupid to understand the world around him, when that literally isn't the original creator's intention or in the case of Bugs Bunny, was actively avoided.
Also, I'm now laughing at MatPat so hard right now because Mario is supportive of Vivian's transgender identity. Matty Patty, how are you going to now argue that Mario is a Sociopath is a legitimate theory? Sure, you could say that it was ahead of its time and that "You paved the way for this to happen." The point was that MatPat used it to try to condemn Mario, joke or not, which is slanderous because the clip in question displays no bad behavior on Mario's part.
Tbh, even if the mario is mental theory is wrong, I already miss Matpat because he made a lot of people’s childhoods (including mine). But it is still fun to look back at old theories and seeing people’s rebuttals to it.

MatPat's "theories" remind me of my schizophrenic grandpa's ramblings. I'm not saying MatPat has schizophrenia, but he certainly seems to go in weird almost incoherent tangents.
His theories also remind me of various conspiracy nut theories. Like the one conspiracy theory about lizard people secretly are running the country and are wearing masks to blend in with society. It sounds like it could be a matpat theory if you just apply it to Legend of Zelda or Pokemon or Minecraft or whatever.
I never understood the theory to begin with.
I have my own theories about characters on my blogs, but I don't mind if they get debunked, as long as the person opposing a theory of mine can provide some legit explanation for why they cannot believe it and is not just insulting me for explaining my theory.

Look, while I agree with the point that MatPat has gone on record saying that he'll cherry-pick "evidence" for his theories to tell the narrative he's trying to tell, that in no way implies that he actually believes his theories as fact. You accuse MatPat of taking little things and blowing them way out of proportion, yet you're guilty of doing that yourself. In my point of view, as a person who used to believe every single Game Theory put out there but has since grown up and regards his videos as nothing more than light entertainment, I see that quote you used at the end of the video as a purposeful defamation of MatPat as a person, flying in the face of your own pre-video disclaimer. What the quote actually implies, looking at the big picture, is that MatPat is trying to tell a specific narrative, in other words, for entertainment that is in no way meant to be fact or implied as such. MatPat, in the most basic terms of his profession, is an entertainer.
If he _were_ indeed regarding these theories as unequivocally canon, then yes, it would be quite unethical for him to cherry-pick only the evidence and lore that fits his theory, but looking at it from the much more likely scope of just entertainment, then a little embellishment to tell a good story is just par for the course for any good entertainer. As he says in every single Game Theory video, "that's just a theory", meaning that he isn't taking his own theories as fact, nor is he encouraging anyone else to do so. The fact that less mature viewers that watch his videos and believe them to be true is irrelevant because, as I said, I used to be one of those less mature viewers. Then, I grew up, and started to see theory videos, like MatPat's as what they really are: entertainment that you can put on in the background while doing other activities.
