You could have explained what it means to be in phase/ out of phase in terms of angles. E.g. For what angles are waves in phase, when they are 360 degrees apart etc, and for what degrees they are out of phase
thank you a lot, crazy that even 9 yrs after this vid was uploaded, there are people like me using it, phase difference has been kind of hard for me understand and I have a exam in 2 days so this definitely helped
@@ChrisGozzardThatPhysicsGuy I just have no idea about this topic and I am suppoed to know the basics of radio. I am trying to understand the relationship with the radio and what does it do in the radio. I need more info for a non-engineer. Thankyou :)
Why would you measure the phase difference by picking a point on one wave and a point on the other wave that occur at two separate times? Surely you shluld pick a time, then measure the difference in displacement?
Hello, a Q from phase-contrast microscopy. Light rays of a particular phase when pass through a specimen (say a RBC) based on the differences in height of the diff. regions of the specimen the light rays undergo differential time lag(Why?) .
@@ChrisGozzardThatPhysicsGuy thx I realised it slightly after when I tried it myself just want to thank you since I managed to do well on my oscillations test
I think theres an error here, plz correct me if im wrong. Is 1/5 lambda not the path difference and the result after in radians and degrees is the phase difference
idk but it makes no difference, you dont need to, but what i am guessing is that the 1 is a "whole" wavelength, and 1/5 is a fraction of it ??? i am 2 years late >.>
Either can happen. I'm doing A level now, but I did phase difference in gcse as well and the questions on this topic are similar. Sometimes you might get a question where they give you the phase difference and you have to use it to work something else out. Sometimes you'll get given two waves and asked to work out the phase difference from them.
I still don't understand that principle of superposition of waves which states that constructive interference occurs when the phase difference is a multiple of 2π and destructive interference occurs when the difference is an odd multiple of π. I have a presentation tomorrow ☹️
What are out of phase waves exactly? Just drawings of lines and squiggles. How does that translate in real life situations? I'm trying to figure out how Flash stopped a universe destroying pulse by creating another. Shouldn't that have done more harm than good? The writers don't even explain it. They just say the one is out of phase with the other and thus the day is saved. Made no sense to me. 2 pulses should have only compounded the problem.
That doesn't make any sense to me. I just said Flash made a second pulse thus generating more power to destroy more quickly and do more damage. If two waves ''cancel each other'' then why do i still hear sound when i google out of phase sound and guitar vids pop up with titles saying "out of phase pickups'' and yet i stil hear sound coming from the guitar therefore the waves are NOT cancelled and are still making noise. Light is a wave too right? So i take two lights out of phase. Not really sure how to make them out of phas since no one will explain what a physical out of phase wave is so i'll assume it means one wave is higher and one is lower in frequency. So i take two lights that are't shining at the same frequency a red and a white light. White is higher and red is lower based on what i've been told about light. So i turn the white on for Hours and Hours and it keeps going and going like the energizer bunny does that mean that if i turn on a red light next to it that they will both be CANCELLED. No? all i get is more light.
Continued from previous response 2 pulses equals twice the damage If i set off two nukes one 40 megaton and one 50 making them out of phase does that mean they CANCEL each other? No only more damage done. Or if it's a difference in time like you said in the video then i have two set them off at different times right? It still won't mean anything. The damage will still take place.
"Happy phase" :)
Easy and simple and short...that's what we want in RUclips
Right
Has anyone ever told you before that you are an amazing teacher ? Cuz you are one . Thank you sir

I was really confused about it but you made it super easy to understand

unexpected outro but a welcome one, great job explaining this
Good explanation, really liked the video especially the end :)
Thx
clear and straight to the point! I love it!!! I also love the ending

Yeap. So cute
Best video regarding this topic
Thanks.. lots of people seem to like it

Very well explained! But what is it used for? For instance with Radio.
Yes. Some data is transferred using PSK phase shift keying
@@ChrisGozzardThatPhysicsGuy I mean what is it’s application in real life.

What will be the resultant frequency of two wave when they are 90 deg out of phase?

Holyyyyy shit man thanks this chapter was going way above my head till I saw this
Boom!
Why would you measure the phase difference by picking a point on one wave and a point on the other wave that occur at two separate times?
Surely you shluld pick a time, then measure the difference in displacement?
So you can compare the whole wavelength with the difference.
Very simple and clear. Thanks a lot
👌
Outstanding .....
Thx
thnx a lot bro my phase basics are way too strong now thnx a lot again

that was great. you made me clear about it. Many thanks.
😅
My tomorrow's test gon be lit. Thanks bruh
How did it go?
How do you calculate the phase difference of 2 waves of different wavelengths
You can't because the phase would be constantly changing.
Useful dha👌
👌
Good one!
Thanks
thank you so much!! YOu explained it very well...!!
You are welcome!
@@ChrisGozzardThatPhysicsGuy sir adjacent particles in two progressive waves coming from opposite sides will be in phase or out of phase?
@@canyonmoon9647 they could be either. Where there is a node they were out of phase. where there is an antinode they where in phase.

how to know and look , phase angle is 1/5 of wavelength , I am little confused on it

but i guess in the exam, they would tell you

Great content and even greater ending haha

Does phase difference depending on size of waves
No. independent of amplitude.
Nice work!!

Cute ending , turned my serious face to smile. ❤❤is she ur daughter. Lovely and great video
Yes my daughter. She's much older now!
How do u know it's 1/5wavelength??
Because one wave is 1/5 of a wavelength ahead.
does this work if its a displacement against distance graph?
Yes it would.

So is phase shift just a graphical difference?
is your last name actually badunkadunk
Well done

How to measure path or phase diff between two waves by taking whole wave or one crest & trough
The distance between the two waves peaks divided by the wavelength distance then multiply by 360 for degrees or 2π for your answer to be in Radians..
It's that little girl with that sweet voice your daughter
Is phase different than phase shift? I mean, is it sin(phase) or sin(wt+phase)?
Same thing really.
I think theres an error here, plz correct me if im wrong. Is 1/5 lambda not the path difference and the result after in radians and degrees is the phase difference
hmm.. no I think I am correct. path difference occurs when you have two sources.
what is phase diffrence of loop stationary wave ? plzz any one reply fast
pi or zero which any one who know?
The whole loop of a stationary wave is in phase - there for zero. The next loop is pi radians out of phase with it.
You explained that really well thx u

U rocked

why was 1/5 lambda divided by 1?
idk but it makes no difference, you dont need to,
but what i am guessing is that the 1 is a "whole" wavelength, and 1/5 is a fraction of it ???

How did u say that wavelength=180 degrees??
!?
does the examiner mention the phase difference in the exam or I might be asked to calculate it ??
Yes. It can come up.
Either can happen. I'm doing A level now, but I did phase difference in gcse as well and the questions on this topic are similar.

It would be more better if you use better animation software or something.
Ok. I will look into it in the future.
really helpful i appreciate it
Funny. This is one of my most popular videos but I have no idea why..
why measure with degree instead of time?
360 degrees is a complete circle and a complete wave can be thought of as different sections of a circle.
good job!
