I love that Geoff's character was first brought on the show as a slap to the idea that you have to have a sidekick, but once they developed the chemistry they did, it showed how crucial an awesome sidekick can be.
I find Andy Richter to be the most pointless sidekick that's ever existed, he does absolutely sweet fuck all,contributing nothing,COB just does not need him.
Its really true. I watched it since before Geoff and loved it. Now when I go back and watch the eps before Geoff they feel a little lacking. Not that they're bad, of course. They're still classics. But Geoff definitely turned out to be a necessity.

Craig and Josh, when they're in their element, are magical.

And, the ongoing shtick between him and Geoff The Robot, and his perfect comic relationship with the hilarious Kristen Bell (as well as the ongoing “feud” between Geoff and Kristen! 🤣) was indescribably funny. I’ve lived through the era of many popular late night shows, (Allen, Carson, Cavett, Letterman, Leno, Rivers, O’Brien, etc.), and none of them - not even Johnny - came close to being as spontaneously funny as Craig Ferguson was. I think it would have been better to have Geoff sitting in that second chair rather than standing at the podium. It would have brought him into the action more and utilized him better.
