I was waiting for this react to come Valerie because i knew you would absolutely love this. This is by far my favorite performance of the season and easily one of my favorite duets of all seasons, such a quality performance. Ramses Shaffy who gave us this amazing song is sadly no longer with us but we got his music to remember him, this was the style of music he made. And this song in particular is one that every Dutch person knows, its on top of the evergreen list so to speak. (together with several of Ramses' songs i might add) Ramses did a lot of duets with the love of his life, Liesbeth List (kinda funny because he wasnt into women, but he loved her madly) and some of those songs are equally impactful. His music was all about the feeling and the lyrics, even if sometimes the lyrics seemed to have an odd message, there was always that something, that invisible something he had in his music. If you are curious about Ramses with Liesbeth.. then i have to suggest the song "Pastorale" its an epic song as well. I'm also happy you have listened to the original first because that helps a great deal in understanding how powerful this performance by Stef and Sanne actually is. I can tell you, that evening when this was broadcasted... in many a household the tears were real, we all felt the song as if it was Ramses himself giving it to us one final time. That is also testament to how incredible Sanne and Stef did in this performance, indeed no rehearsal, nothing... just get on stage and access the raw emotions and deliver. And deliver this piece of amazing music they did, such a powerful and intimate performance was given to us by these two amazing talents, i still get emotional when i hear this, its so strong. Ty so much for reacting to this great duet Valerie, i always love what you have to say about any performance, but was extra curious what you'd say about this, like i said.. i knew you'd love it hehehe
Interesting aspect of this performance is that both of them sort of dance around the actual melody obeying to the chord progression but not always singing the original melody. That takes some guts to do especially with a song that pretty much everyone in the Netherlands knows.
You are such an honest warm human being, I wish the world was full of people like you. We appreciate as Dutch people your sincere interest in our language. Great comment, you are Dutch for me.... May Jesus Christ bless you and thank our Father for the love inside of you he has given to you. Shalom Le Vab

Powerful performance, my favorite of the season. Thank you so much for your reaction, i agree the season was much more about the human experience. Lovely to hear you watched the original performance as well by Ramses Shaffy, much loved singer, definitely born under another sun! My other favorite performance of the season was by Tabitha in the Stef Bos episode, My land is jou land, in Afrikaans, she did a great job there. Much thanks and greetings from Amsterdam! ❤️🍀🌷🌷

This version of the song suddenly reminds me of Jacques Brel, the Belgian chansonnier. Now that was someone who knew how to put passion into his performances.
waht also was great to see during this performance was how the others were enjoying it. at your first stop the look of the host. great to see how diggy dex was listening , like a prayer. and the reaction of freek when they started singing together. 2 other great duets were the ones diggy dex (the rapper) did. with milow he did SAME LOVE (jij blijft). on this diet it is about how diggy dex loves his mom. when he was 15 or so his parents divorced coz his mother fell in love with other woman. it is also about the reaction of others , friends that suddenly were no friends anymore coz of that. like he said , this still happens. the other duet he did was with suzan and freek , song called LAMPEDUSA. here he sings a letter from a guy that tries to escape his own country to his mother. lampedusa is in italy. in the song the person tells his mom better not tell his dad coz he sees boats sink and people drown. had a talk with my youngest daughter about this season and the one last year. even though season 2019 was spectacular we both felt more connected to this year.
Valerie I know you already mention it but I realy think you are going to love Tania Kross (opera singer) and Tommy Christiaan (musical singer) with Barcelona. Please that one first 😍 Love your reactions.
Ramses Shaffy, the original singer of the song lived in a time were free spirits were looked at as very strange. You could give him a piano and he improvised a new song. Have you watched Pastorale? That is my all time favorite song of him.
You talked about intemisie (hope this is the right word) between them. Most of them knew each other before the recording, unlike the previous season, in the previous season, only Floor knew Henk Poort, mainly from his performance as the Phantom. The other didn't know each other very well. This season people already knew each other well from previous encounters, the circumstances were sometimes pleasant and sometimes not so pleasant, such as with Stef Bos and Milow.

Beautiful reaction. As a native speaker I can confirm that Dutch for foreigners sounds awful, but the lyrics are spot on. And the singing is not the best in the world, but the song and singers confirm that telling a story is far more important.
Almost all the songs you can find translated in lyricstranslate.com/en/laat-me-dont-mind-me.html As commented there can be a slight deviation from the original.

That was in 1973. In 2005, at age 72, it was recorded with Alderliefste. Old and fragile... but still that powerfull voice. ruclips.net/video/Ih5i8lEpaH0/видео.html

Let me (...), let me. I’ve always done it this way.
Stef:
Luckily I am not anchored.
Sometimes I live here, sometimes I dwell there.
I didn’t f*ck my life up. I have no possessions and no objection.
And I love, love, love water and earth.
I love dismal and expensive.
There is no penny that I saved. I..
I simply live from hour to hour.
Let me (be). Let me. Just let me go my own way.
Let me (...), let me. I’ve always done it this way.
Sanne:
I, too, will die one day.
I really cannot escape that.
I’ll then just let my songs roam.
For the rest, just go figure it out!
For the time being I’ll remain your Sanne
and give everything I’ve got.
I’ll remain for long and preferably even longer,
but let myself be who I am.
Let me (be). Let me. Just let me go my own way.
Let me (...), let me. I’ve always done it this way.
I always wanted to do it like this
Laat me. Laat me. Laat mij mijn eigen gang maar gaan.
Laat me. (...) Laat me. Ik heb het altijd zo gedaan.
Ik zal mijn vrienden niet vergeten,
want wie mij lief is, blijft mij lief.
En waar ze wonen, moest ik weten,
maar ik verloor hun laatste brief.
Ik zal ze heus nog wel ontmoeten.
Misschien vandaag, misschien over een jaar.
Ik zal ze kussen en begroeten
.
Het komt vanzelf weer voor elkaar.
Laat me. Laat me. Laat mij mijn eigen gang maar gaan.
Laat me. (...) Laat me.
Laat me. Laat me. Laat mij mijn eigen gang maar gaan.
Laat me. (...) Laat me.
Laat me. Laat me. Laat mij mijn eigen gang maar gaan.
Laat me. (...) Laat me. Ik heb het altijd zo gedaan.
Ik heb het altijd zo willen doen.
Good translation
Listen to the portugese version of "Laat me" van Maria de Fatima
milow and Sanne/miss montreal were great together as well (and in english)
Beautiful reaction. As a native speaker I can confirm that Dutch for foreigners sounds awful, but the lyrics are spot on.
And the singing is not the best in the world, but the song and singers confirm that telling a story is far more important.
Actually, that is what we Dutch think ourselves, but I have heard several reactions by foreigners who think that Dutch actually sound cool...
Pls listen to the version by Wende Snijders
Almost all the songs you can find translated in lyricstranslate.com/en/laat-me-dont-mind-me.html As commented there can be a slight deviation from the original.
❤
Please do the original!
Wonderful comment...
Please react to some beat it performances!!!!!
Make Humen Nature from this is it reaction PLEASE !!!!!!
You should react to tabitha - best part of me
This year we have Anneke van Giersberger as one of the guests.
It’s such a joy to watch you enjoy these Beste Zangers performances. And what a lovingly reaction. And we also do.
You mentioned Tania Kross and Tommie Christiaan - ‘Barcelona’
I would suggest to also watch Beste Zangers 2018: Maria Fusilier performed ‘Lose Yourself’ ruclips.net/video/8YyuIkVSx-8/видео.html
I don't know if you've already watched the video with Ramses Shaffy, but just just in case you didn't, here's the link: ruclips.net/video/w24XB7ikAw8/видео.html
You can find the translation to English here: www.dutchsongs.overtuin.net/translation-70-shaffy-laat-me.html
Anyway, there's a song from Ramses Shaffy that he performed together with Liesbeth List: Pastorale, and that song is in my opinion the best Dutch (love) song that ever has been made, you really need to listen to it and see it: ruclips.net/video/ZNR85NbnH0U/видео.html
That was in 1973. In 2005, at age 72, it was recorded with Alderliefste. Old and fragile... but still that powerfull voice. ruclips.net/video/Ih5i8lEpaH0/видео.html
@@aukemichels5182 when I watch that last video you mentioned, it always brings tears to my eyes. The love you see between him and Liesbeth List and yes so fragile and when he starts to sing, still the Sun king he portrayed in Pastorale. @Valerie, it would be so nice if you could watch and react to the video from 2005 as well.
As you love Beste Zangers, did you know the format has been exported to other European countries? Belgium has Liefde voor muziek. Give a listen to our Dutch Ilse de Lange singing Milow´s song Building Bridges ruclips.net/video/gtYVWsYd9TQ/видео.html. I also love the duet version with the Belgian Selah Sue ruclips.net/video/juC-fcGINh8/видео.html. As to Selah Sue, or Sanne, her real name, check out Blame ruclips.net/video/m-xRgP3kKlo/видео.html
Please react too DAVINA MICHELLE 🤩
Im from belgium.. so i can request thé same thing but from belgium. In thé Netherlands it is "beste zangers" in Belgium it's thé same aspect but it's " liefde voor muziek" .. why i follow your channel is simple: you have not only thé musical base.. but i hear every time that you moan. See you enjoying music... Deep from thé heart. Not only looking technical. But feel thé story, i know your dutch is not thé best like my English is not. But you feel thé happiness .. or thé pain.. thé story... I was before contestant in "thé voice van Vlaanderen" (Belgium) and before in 2016 in liveshows of belgiums got talent. My voice is not thé best. But im also a storyteller. My autism is not only a handicap. Ofcourse i want you pay for lessons. I feel good about you as a teacher because you think not only technical. I hope for 1 lesson to try. I can Skype of zoom with An interface and a røde condencer Mic .. so Quality Skype or zoom for music. Hopefully i find how to connect. And keep thé work up. You do it so well
Can you anderstand Dutch? No so its like me when hearing a song in a league not ourselves I love French and Italian but can't speak it or know how to write it
Hello Valerie, I really like your honest and enthusiastic reactions. Especially because I come from the Netherlands 😉
Perhaps you could react to Anouk Maas performing "Zeg me dat het niet zo is" (tell me it isn't true) from Beste Zangers 2015? I think it's bone-chilling.

A very beautiful Beste Zangers song is the 1st time I saw your face: ruclips.net/video/_MNM_YIfUtk/видео.html
And my one of the favorites is the song Caruso: ruclips.net/video/pq9A-7yA80A/видео.html
That we Dutch like to make fun you can see on this vid where on that day we were celebrate the birthday of our king. The song is caled links rechts (left right) ruclips.net/video/MGBS8S6Lygc/видео.html
Its good, but this season, it was to much Dutch songs. Its harder to like a song You dont understand...

Thank you for your reaction!

I'm sorry, but what a bad performance of a perfect song. Look at the original song from Ramses Shaffy. This are good singers, but can't sing like Ramses.
