Disney should have pushed for Ashley tisdale more, she had great potential
I think she was wanting to do more adult roles and music but was stuck in the Disney character if she wanted the big HS musical money.
And ariana grande, they wouldnt give her a chance and she ended up making her own deal with a record company, that would of hurt
Same with drake bell, they literally built up his image to be the it boy but again, he ended up signing a deal with another company

I think the reason Zach and Cody got two shows was cause If a show on Disney got a 4th season all the cast would have to get a raise, so Disney would change the show name and sometimes location, like with live and Maddie, they moved them to la and changed the name so it’s technically a different show, same with Zach and cody, moved them to a boat and called in on deck
Wow so true! After the 3rd/ 4th season they create "new" shows with the same actors who sign new contracts so they don't have to pay them as much. Miley Cyrus did mention in one of her interviews how she was not paid as much as she should've been and didn't even get paid for the initial live shows that she did because she didn't own her name! Disney is an evil genius y'all.

Honestly the fact you admitted to watching Disney at 15 is so refreshing. In middle school boys would tease ppl about watching Disney and it made me feel really insecure, but it’s like what else are you supposed to watch when you’re like 12😭

I had 2 younger sisters so I was also a hannah Montana Stan at like age 15 bc I always used to watch it with them 😭🖤

I've noticed people taking deep dives into older movies like Cars/Cars 3, Pixar in general, Prince of Egypt, Atlantis Lost Empire, New Groove, there is a HUGE nostalgia kick going on rn especially with animation reactions and with how the world is today it's not surprising. And it's fun to go in and rewatch something cause your opinions on it might change. I always remember liking Cars over Cars 3 but now as I'm older, I actually like Cars 3 a LOT more than the first. Also cause it came out right around when my grandfather died, and GOD those Doc Hudson flashbacks BROKE. MY SOUL. I don't know how Pixar does it but no matter the movie, even if it's lower tiered, they still manage to pull on your heartstrings. I'd actually like to see you do a series reacting to Pixar movies. I know you've done a few movie reactions but....should be fun seeing your thoughts on some DIVISIVE Pixar movies.

I really wanna hear your take on Nickolodeon stars, with victorious, Icarly, drake and josh. The stars from there never quite had the same fame as Disney but there’s been a couple very big stars come out of it. With the controversies from both channels it’s hard to decide which channel was the better to go on

@@caughtcrjfever2107 i mean.... a ot of the nickelodeon shows were run by d*n schn*ider, therefore they had a lot of cringey and gross stuff in them. disney was aiming their shows at young kids and middle schoolers, whereas nickelodeon never seemed to figure out what their demographic really was with a lot of the gross humour they had.

I believe Sonny with a Chance ended after 2 seasons because of Demi's health issues/addiction. I think they needed to take a break and went to rehab, or otherwise focused on their issues.
that's what i heard too! Didn't Demi suffer from ED around then too? bc disney pushed her to be a 'beautiful skinny girl' and she felt like she was never skinny enough or smth? idk how true anything is tho!
Tbh I’m glad that Olivia didn’t sign with Disney, as I’m not sure how much creative freedom she would have. She said she signed with Interscope because they complimented her songwriting as opposed to her pop star potential, whereas it likely would have been the opposite with Disney. Disney would probably push back on songs like Good 4 U and Brutal for not being 100% PG/PG-13. I also love Sabrina Carpenter’s music!
80s baby here - yes I'm old - and I feel like this kinda goes through waves. I remember when we all thought Disney Channel was over after Lizzie McGuire and when nothing was hotter than Boy Meets World and Phil of the Future

I love how different the experience abroad is. Girls out here being bullied for watching Disney shows for girls, when I was being shaded for not watching any of it because it meant I was too poor to afford cable lol (I live in Brazil)

I prefer wizards of Waverley place, but I think miley paved the way for modern Disney queens

2. In HSM2, Miley is also in the final dance scene. So another smart crossover on Disney especially before playing a Hannah Montana episode.
3. I think Miley and Selena had different fan bases that intertwined. Miley was the sweet girl next door from the south and Selena was the sarcastic mean lazy girl from New York. So I think Disney knew what they were doing reaching they’re broad audience on all ends. Personally, Selena is my queen but I also loved HM.
Disney has definitely lost their foothold since the change from TV screens to phones. Miley, Selena, Demi and the Jonas brothers are the golden age superstars. But as you rightly said, history has a knack for repeating itself and after they missed out on Olivia like they did for Hillary, Disney won't want that happening again and will likely introduce to a new range of stars in the not so distant future.
Side note: Looking forward to your video on how being on Disney affected these young stars. Great follow up topic.

one thing that always blew my mind about disney channel is that they had so much money/content that they literally only advertised their own shows, movies, music, etc. like when i was watching disney channel i was truly watching disney channel ONLY 😂

I think Lizzie McGuire was the first Disney show I remember & then That’s So Raven. I loveddddd Raven. I still love watching the Suite Life & Wizards of Waverly Place 😂

This was such a well thought out video and I you made great points about them getting their footing and coming back into the “celebrity making” scene. I hadn’t thought about it like that! That’s crazy
I feel like you forgot to mention lemonade mouth, or maybe it wasn’t that famous (it’s still my favorite disney movie from that time) Bridget Mendler was my favorite and i loved her songs after the movie, she’s now a PhD student at MIT. Naomi Scott is mostly acting, Blake Michael did a show about a talking dog with disney and i think he’s now a journalist, and Hayley Kiyoko (i don’t feel like i need to mention how she’s doing, i think she’s the most famous out of all of them)
While watching your videos it made me wonder what aspects of it made it succeed and what did not, and how it affected their lives and the outcomes, i guess it’s time to deep dive into interviews lmao
This is an absolute masterpiece!! I'm two years older than you so our timelines more or less match up, but I was there for Lizzy McGuire. This was such a throwback with such carefully crafted timelines and the interconnection of the shows. Disney really had us with the crossover episodes! Excellent work Angelika!

Actually we do watch different disney channels. Depending on where you live, the shows being played are different bc certain shows did better in different areas and there are country limited shows like their spanish disney shows.

Hilary duff was huge when I was in middle school/junior high. I even had her Christmas album. But it’s one of those situations where her audience was so song & she was getting older & if she wanted to do anything outside of Disney Channel she would look like she was trying to scandalized her younger audience.
Until Hannah Montana & Demi Lovato, Disney actors were stuck in their genres.
When Cadet Kelly came out, I wanted to be Hilary Duff so bad and I was in middle school. I watched a couple episodes of Younger but couldn't really get into it.

I grew up without cable/pay tv so my experience of these shows was a few years later when the rights went out to other tv channels - I'm 25 and ages 9-12 were peek Lizzie McGuire in our house. Never really got a Hannah Montana or highs cool musical stage, but people around me definitely did
You could mention Dove Cameron and the bullying she suffered from which lead to plastic surgery and further hate. She then does Liv & Maddie which lead to movie like cloud 9 and Decedents which had 3/4 movies. She then drops Disney and releases music which generally does well on TikTok and the media but doesn’t really hit any charts. She still continues to release movies and has recently worked with MGK and Megan Fox on a movie.
Lots of the Descendant actors have tried to become musicians but have struggled. Disney didn’t support the actors who really suffered the effects of mental health and that sends a completely wrong message to teenagers and the media, than the messages they try to send.

if i remember correctly, the main character from hannah montana was not supposed to be called miley. but because miley's actual dad played her on screen dad as well, he slipped up and called her miley so many times that they just stuck with that. also, miley had originally auditioned for the role of lily. and on top of that, miley and emily (aka lily) hated each other at the start of filming

I grew up poor like Scott Cramer, so I watches a lot of PBS when I was young. I didn't even get Nickelodeon until I was in later elementary and didn't get Disney until I was in Jr High. But I remember wanting to watch all the Disney made for TV movies (like Cadet Kelly) and having to wait until I went to my grandma's to watch it. When I finally got Disney I was just catching Wizards of Waverley Place, but I knew how big Miley was.

You were embarrassed to have stayed with Disney until 15 but here I am a 90s baby and I was a Disney freak all they way to my early 20s. I grew up on Boys meets world, Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Phil of the Future, ect. It was a constant part of my viewing until the end of Good Luck Charlie and that when Disney Channel seemed to lose the magic for me. I came back for Girls meets world and while not horrible it didn’t have the same effect as Boy meets world.
I agree that with Disney+ it will be harder to get a mega star because they won’t be able to sell their “propaganda” like they did before. Disney had a way of selling their shows, stars, projects, ect through not just their programs, music, and merchandise but they had their own commercials. Movie surfers, Disney 411, Mikes super short show, As the bell rings, circle of stars, that even through breaks in the show some news about an upcoming show, movie or a short that involved various Disney stars was thrown in our faces

I’m still a fan and will continue to watch my favorites on Disney+ but I think with the way social media and this age of internet is currently they won’t be able to SHAPE the stars they way Disney have been because before their stars even if get to the show they already have some kind of social media presence and so the audience already had an idea of who the stars really are. It’s harder to avoid another 3LW type scenario because it’s out before Disney could promote anything else.

Dude I forget how old some of these shows are. I watched Lizzie Mcguire growing up but I was born two years after it had come out yet I assumed it came out later as my memories of it is from when I was much older. I guess because the popular shows aired on TV for a while, the shows are now part of many childhoods.
Considering Olivia's success, I think disney will now try and capitalize on tiktok, and it's probably what they should do. They could take example from doja and let their new stars showcase themselves on tiktok as well as disney plus.
Last disney show I could watch was KC undercover because i love Zendaya haha, I remember wanting Hannah Montana costumes, and telling my mum I need the blonde wig even tho I am blonde lmaoooooooo
This reminded me that first time I saw the Jonas Brothers was when one of their music videos was played on Disney Channel between shows. I watched DisneyCh well into my teens because it wasn’t til I found Gilmore Girls on E4 that I found a ‘grown up’ show I liked. But it meant I enjoyed most of the shows that you’re mentioning.

I slowly stopped watching Disney around 2011-2012 (around 15/16 too) and transitioned into another cult..CW. was obsessed with shows like Vampire Diaries, Originals, Supernatural, Arrow etc. hahaha
Never watched disney because my mum couldn't afford it since it was on paid tv so I was out of the loop at the time but I'm still here for the tea lol

The golden disney era was my multiverse of madness! I loved when the Jonas Brothers would be on Hannah Montana etc. Never had disney channel growing up because you had to pay extra to get certain channels in Finland but they showed almost all of these shows on Finnish networks because they were so popular. Like they showed everything: kim possible, hannah montana, the jonas, camp rock, wizards of waverley place etc etc. It was the time to be alive if you ask me
Cool video. 🤗 after I stopped watching Disney around the time ‘Shake it off!’ started to air I’ve noticed Disney stars were kind of lost (image and job wise) after they stopped working with Disney. They truelly milked these young actors to the point some of them had hard time working with anyone else or building their own identity outside of their TV persona. I guess it could be easier for those actors nowadays with the age of social media but at the same time I don’t think Disney wants to build someone elses career just so they can run off to different brand. 🤷♀️
