You just have to do it, I did it about 2 months ago and I don't regret it. One day I just said F this and I bough myself a ticket to Cancun, I drove to Tulum and I got myself a 2 bedroom apartment in town. Everybody that knows me thought I was going insane 😂
Something that helped me with getting fluent in Spanish was living with locals (I moved to Medellin, Colombia because of your videos actually haha). After 3-6 months of living with them my Spanish got to a B1 level without lessons, so I highly recommend that for getting better with the language! Just my opinion :)

Hi Christianne - appreciate your travel vlogs they are informative, fun and "professionally" filmed. Glad you quickly recognized that Tulum is not an ideal place to stay if you care about being proficient in Spanish. There are too many english speaking locals and tourists that make speaking english more covenient. Mexico is full of beautiful landscapes, people, culture, tradition, cuisine, art, history and language. I trust you'll work your way to more regions of Mexico that share a more traditional and common experience. Continued success and happy travels - enjoy the relaxation in Tulum, it's a good time for that.

Even if you lived in Santa Cruz, Bolivia it is all Spanish. Now if that is too much of a trip I would suggest Puerto Rico which is not as cheap as Mexico or Bolivia, you will learn your Spanish especially if you live in a Pueblo outside of San Juan. Hey, my hubby and I are backpacking for the first time durning coved, we are from Kent in the uk & we’ve been in Turkey for 4weeks now, planning on staying until November (end of nov) we are in the process of applying for a special tourist visa to get into Thailand but if that doesn’t get accepted then will go with the flow. We have to wear a face mask everywhere in Turkey no matter what. Good luck with your first month sweetie, we are both following your journey whilst we go through ours. Your such an inspiration to many x
Use that Mr. Coffee. I have the exact same one, and its sooooo easy to use! Plus they have some great Mexican coffee down there! I know the Yucatan region very well and a couple other places that would be less expensive but really nice, as well as less touristy, would be Merida (3 hr bus ride west of Tulum, and Chetumal (2.5 hrs south of Tulum) on the same highway, on the border with Belize. If you're working on your Spanish, those come highly suggested, and much less expensive. Even Progresso would be good, and that's a 25 min bus ride from Merida. Anyway, enjoy Tulum. I'll be down there in 4 weeks.
Should you ever choose to move out of Tulum, you should consider the coast of Oaxaca. Puerto Escondido looked like it was definitely becoming another hub for expats, but might have more people willing to practice their native tongue with you. Good luck.
Try Mérida in the Yucatan... or Mahahual if you want to stay in Quitana Roo and near the beach. Chetumal if you need a bigger center with less English and more of a challenge.

First off, amazing video! I love how honest you are. I can't wait to see where you end up after this trip is over. I also have a question for you... Have you ever thought about designing your own backpack? I feel like any backpack created by you would be a top seller!

Well, small world. Just browsing through some of your old videos and noticed something familiar as you were standing in the courtyard. When you went into the apartment I started to laugh. You are staying in the exact same unit my wife and I stayed in for a week at the end of November 2019. The place next door go a bit rowdy a couple of nights. Vanilla 1 fit the bill for our stay. Hope you didn’t use the sugar they provided…full of tiny ants. Hi from BC.
You should check out Mérida, Mexico while you're still in the Yucatán! It's rated the 2nd safest city in North America. I haven't been yet, but I've been planning a 4 month backpacking trip through Mexico (after things get back to normal) and Mérida looks amazing! It seems pretty easy to find an affordable studio with pool access and it's about a 40 min drive to Progresso Beach. Also, thanks for inspiring me to start learning Spanish again! I've been taking classes since June and now I'm conversational :)
Thank you for sharing your experience ☺️ I want to let you know that baggers in supermarkets rely on tips since they don't get paid. It is something I didn't know until my Mexican mom informed me about. Much love to you
@Backpacking Bananas Could you do a video on how to minimize the amount of things owned? I am always in awe when looking with what little stuff you backpack and now even moved!
just finished viewing your blog on your tiny studio apartment in Tulum . It seem cozy yet cramped . The rash on your lip it's probably due to being that you are in Mexico some of the lotions or maybe chemicals in some of the cleaning solutions might have different compounds so you might have a reaction to that. But I must say you're beautiful a_ _ as you described it, I would say the bug bites seemed like it was an outright assault. What kind of bugs are those down there? All in all I enjoyed your presentation oh, this is one I will look back on as I perused more video blogs great... I myself I'm seriously considering so that's the repair living short-term or maybe long-term in some Central American or South American city. Stay safe and happy travels... Her dream! Is your dream something like this too?
Will deffo looking into Merida 😊❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience ☺️ I want to let you know that baggers in supermarkets rely on tips since they don't get paid. It is something I didn't know until my Mexican mom informed me about. Much love to you
Ah interesting! They don't have baggers in the supermarkets in Tulum! But perhaps in other areas?

Such a nice and positive video, so cool that you can basically get your work done wherever you are in the world!
well that thumbnail is definitely, um, one of the better ones I have seen today 🥲
@Backpacking Bananas Could you do a video on how to minimize the amount of things owned? I am always in awe when looking with what little stuff you backpack and now even moved!
thats amazing aparatment. yeh the views, yeah..
just finished viewing your blog on your tiny studio apartment in Tulum . Perhaps when we might run into each other one day.
