William Crooks an English physicist conducted a series of experiments from 1869 to 1875.First time he made a discharge tube , a glass tube sealed with two metallic electrode on their side.It also have a vacuum pump with the help he increases or decreases the pressure of the gas inside the tube.Both the electrode attach with high voltage source approximately about 5000 to 10000 volts.He observed that at very low pressure about 0.01 mm of Hg some rays produce at the surface of CATHODE and travel straight toward anode and produce fluorescence on anode side.In 1886 Goldstein called it CATHODE rays while later on G.J.Stoney called electrons.
