    If you are wondering why your patterns are not selling well, then this video is for you.
    ⇒ 5 MAIN REASONS:
    1) Do you have only a few patterns for sale?
    A good number of designs in your portfolio/shop to expect first sales would be at least 50 designs depending on the website. To start seeing any real recurring income you need to create 500+ patterns and keep uploading new ones every week. This will give you steady income growth as your portfolio grows over time and as you become a better designer.

    2) Do your designs have commercial value?
    In other words, can someone use them to produce and sell their products? This is the reason why customers buy patterns. Not because they like how your art looks to decorate their home. How to know which designs have commercial value? Study clothing, accessories, home decor, toys, kitchen products, bath products companies and see which patterns they use.
    3) Are your pattern's element and composition clean and eye-pleasing? Well designed?
    The truth might be that your art skills still need development. This is a totally good stage to be in as I was my first few years as a self-taught artist and I am still in some respects need improvement in my skills. Over time, after designing patterns over and over, you will get better and your patterns will sell.
    Watch my related video: 3 most common pattern mistakes.
    4) Do your designs have good names, keywords, and descriptions?
    Most of the customers find your patterns not by looking at images, but first by typing in search phrases. You need to make sure that each of the images you post online (not only for sale but also on your blog and Instagram, Pinterest) has good, appropriate keywords and descriptions. This is almost as important as the visual quality of your design.
    5) Is your online shop or portfolio too new?
    It often takes up to a few weeks, or months for your brand new designs to be properly settled in on related search pages and your customers to start finding and purchasing your designs. You shouldn't wait till you see the first sales. I recommend continuing uploading regularly new images to grow your portfolio AND your design skills and the sales will come.
    Hope this video was helpful for you to get you started learning why your repeat pattern designs might not be selling well and how to fix it. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Oksana, I watched your video about the cactus collection and I have some questions: Do you upload the collection as one file, or as separate ones with similar names or something? And is there and advantage to making collections (more profitable maybe?), or is it only for the purpose of practice?
    many thanks!

    • @oksancia
      @oksancia  6 лет назад

      I upload my patterns separately for sale and sometimes create collections of patterns in one file out of much older patterns.

    • @Aya-ms5em
      @Aya-ms5em 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply Oksana. Are files containing collections more profitable?

    • @oksancia
      @oksancia  6 лет назад

      ayasser 16 It depends. Some of my collections are selling well, some not. There is no clear answer to it. You need to try for yourself :)

    Hi there, are you a textile designer full time would someone be able to support themselves with this? I don't have a degree in design, but wanted to know this. My degree is in Marketing, but I've never used it in my career because I took the 1st job that I could find at the time. Thank you for your information and help. :O}

    Hello! I have been creating very complex pattern designs for my portfolio and I love it. However I only sell them as raster image in different microstock sites, I would love to sell them as vector images though as raster images don't sell as well as vectors. I have my .ai files file size fine, but once I convert them to .eps, I get over 150mb! Even though I resize them following every tutorial I can find, I can only reduce them upto 50mb, which won't work for the required limit for a lot of microstock sites. Anyone here has an advice? am I missing something? Thank you very much!

    • @oksancia
      @oksancia  6 лет назад

      In my experience, this means that you have applied some newer effects to some objects that are not allowed for EPS10. They get your files gigantic. Please create a design using a simple color fills, no effects of any kind, they try saving again. They should be far under 15MB. Good luck.
