The RV companies are building trash. They did this to themselves. And campgrounds charging $70.00 per night doesn't help.
Even tent camping rates are bad now.

💯 A lot of campgrounds started pushing for the RV drivers and creating more spots for rvs instead of tent campers. That made the camp sites go up. It has been a crazy 4 years.
Those $600k motor-homes were only $200k just 15 years ago, poor quality and greed are killing the RV industry faster than the economy.

Just looking at these interiors you can tell they are not built to withstand the road. Anyone who bought without educating themselves on all aspects of RV ownership will pay the price.
My brother retired 2020 sold everything & bought a 45ft RV and made it his permanent home with his gf and 2 dogs they use to keep it on the road 9 months of the year now it’s parked 9 months of the year can’t afford fueling both tanks now

Rv warrantys are a joke. They never stand behind any of them no matter the brand.
I came close to buying a used 25 foot rv trailer for $13,000 to pull behind my suburban. My gas mileage would drop from 17 to single digits. Plus parking costs at KOA;s . Found it better to pay mom and pop motels around $50.00 per night. .
This is what is happening, all of the mildly-wealthy suckers who bought these RV's 10 years ago and took out 40-year long essentially mortgages for them are now realizing the horrible mistake they made and trying to dump them onto the every day working person. Don't fall for it.

Im still driving my 37' 1989 Class A Fleetwood. Only because it was a quality build back then, for an RV. And I've remodeled the enterior a few times to suit my taste. Repowered it to diesel 20 years ago so it gets 14 mpg!
These new RV's are a junk..... only a fool with more money than he knows what to do with can afford them. But an RV is a money pit, so buyers either need deep $ pockets or be real handy at repairs. My big Class A has been my hobby so I have maintained it from the day I bought it. And thats why I still own it.
They charge 100k to a million for these RV's. They are way over priced and deserve to not sale due to their greed!

We almost bought a fifth wheel this year had planned on putting it on a site to vacation at thru year. Luckily I investigated more and found that the cost is outrageous! We are not willing to pay someone 5,000 or more a year for renting their land. Hell no. People wasting money everywhere

Grand Design is having serious problems with their Lippert frames. They designed them, Lippert built them, & the weight on the frames are causing flexing and the welds are breaking, the pin box on the 5th wheels are moving and causing all kinds of damage.
What about the people who are buying RVs because they can’t afford a house?

As others pointed out, it beats rent, property taxes and homelessness. Parking can be free most times.

Love your onsite tours that show real cost. RV's are made with cheap material. I bought brand new one. Problems from beginning. Glad I sold it.
I own a campground. We are still sold-out for snowbird season, with several return guests buying brand new RVs since last winter. A lot of people that travel for work, have gone to RVs rather than hotels. The max size coach is 45', the ones shown here are not that big. We full-time RV'd for 5 years before buying a campground. When buying, you should expect to get 40% off the asking price. Pretty standard.

Sure, buy homeless people RVs worth more than many people's houses and then buy land for them to put them on, pay for insurance and repairs, nevermind the fact most people can't afford these, but the homeless somehow deserve them. The rigs that are 6 years old were not purchased with stimulous payments, only the newer models.
I really don't mean to be rude, but you can buy a semi truck for 30% of what you stated. You can buy a good, dependable HDT for way less than a new pickup truck.
Also I'd buy a 53' used reefer trailer and convert it INto a MOBILE ABODE.

The thing is, even if you can't afford one of these, a sales and finance person will twist everything to get you to sign a loan for one, so these guys are right, even if you could barely eek into buying one, it would be a horrible decision. Whoever is selling these things is just trying to offload the cost onto some unsuspecting working-class person to eat the payment.

I hear 90 percent of these built after 2018 are glue and staples on a rolling chassis coming unguled and unstapled as they roll down the road.
oh man you would not believe... some of these things are coming undone on the lot. I was inside one the other day where the panels where(like you said held by staples) totally hanging off the wall. They wanted 45,000 for it. I should of bought some crack and found the owner of the RV place. Im pretty sure he loves to smoke that crack trying to rip me off.
Yes glue! Looked at a small pull behind for use as working on my place and it reeked of glue. Serious off gassing. I just walked right back out and told sales guy he better leave it open before someone drops inside it. Getting worse, not better. I did NOT buy one anywhere.
RV's are interesting because it signals the peak before the economic fall. They're the "we need something to spend our money on" purchase versus saving that money. I wonder if we'll start seeing RV repo's.
Same with airbnb. Our friends run an airbnb, rent out a room. Doing it for years. They have been averaging 1000-1300 per month. About 4-5 months ago this dropped to 100-200 per month and its stayed there.
of course people had to go back to work, many companies stopped allowing so many people to work remotely. can't RV and airbnb all over while working if you are required to be at the office
Some of this is because of the hidden expenses.Not to mention the fact that some of these companies give a lot of people the runaround about warranties because of poor workmanship! Better off buying an old bus or box van and making your own getaway vehicle.
Have to remember that motor homes have higher labor rates when it comes to repairs because there a lot harder to work on. Not many things are not accessible.

I had two sailboats and you don’t buy gas but the dock fees will kill you. Nothing is cheap now but air.
Why did they think it wasn't going to slow down, covid sales wasn't going to last forever. And why you think the little money the government sent out was enough to buy a over priced RV is beyond me? They are probably desperate.
What are they supposed to do with the RVs they want to sell? I think they know their business.
I've seen a couple of high end car shows lately as well. I wonder if they got any suckers.
These aren't RV's they're glorified mobile homes. Drive down the road at 60mph and you're surprised when it falls apart. Can't find a campsite, people living and working remote.

I don't think it was the stimulus checks that hurt us. It was the not going to work and removing the competition with other countries on merchandise and oil. Those were the biggest things to start the spiral downturn.

The RV dealers and manufacturers did it to themselves. The same way the Auto dealers have. They both have overpriced their products. The reliability for both are disappointing.

A family member has an older Motorhome. Cost $1600.00 for diesel to drive from Yuma to southern BC. It’s parked permanently until it sells or he’ll use it as a guest house.
I would like to meet these people who spent their stimulus money on fun things. I, and everyone I know, spent them on bills.
As you mentioned, the 1 ton pick up to tow these RVs are 100K, used trucks are 50K- 75K. Then there is a shortage of parts to fix all newer vehicles because of the strike and Ukraine makes a lot of the electronic chips used . We elected to fix up our old vehicles because of the vehicle shortage, approx 20% increase of sticker price, gas prices. We don't want the average vehicle monthly payment of $700. It is crazy!!!
Yep... dont forget if you want to eat. Every little thing at the grocery store is a minimum of five dollars. Want some butter that used to cost 1.50 to 2.00, now its five to six dollars.
JB as they economy continues to collapse the average person needs to spend more on the basic needs like food and energy.

I bought a Newmar, Dutch star. I didn't like the fact that Winnebago bought them out, BUT when I took the tour of the Newmar factory, they reassured me Winnebago is allowing Newmar to continue to build their sturdy buses without interference. I have been very impressed with everything about the bus so far, and with the way Newmar runs their business.
Another good channel is Pinball Preparedness. Formerly worked on Wall Street. Former military. Posts twice a day.
I like Pinball. He has some good information and daily news. I have gardened for many years and some of his gardening advice is not good. But overall he has a real good channel.

Hunkering down where I am, updating appliances, new roof, pond maintenance, upgrading deck, continuing my preps of water filtration equipment, food, gardening, etc, as well as protection. Good for him...If he sticks to visiting National parks, National Monuments and State parks he can't go wrong....The USA is absolutely beautiful. They do a great job having the parking up close to the main views and then you can go walking deeper into parks if you want more adventure.

On top of the unreliable power train components. Was looking at a 2022 class C. Has 11,000 miles on it. 2nd engine and 3rd transmission. Ford running gear. No wonder why it has a salvage title. Things a rolling total off the lot.

I think it was the fact that the RV "show" was pretty much dead. One or two people, and a couple of salesman really is "no one" when you have hundreds to sell.

Campers that have flat screen tvs and fireplaces should not be called "campers"; they're luxury tow-behind villas. These r an insult to the vast mumbers of people around the world struggling to feed children: the gluttony that these things represent is disgusting. America is way overdue for a major reality check.

I don't understand the logic of buying a luxury RV. You could just stay at 4 star hotels and come out cheaper than the fuel, maintenance and storage of one of these monstrosities.

My parents retired early and purchased a rv. They loved it. But they kept there primary residence.

Whenever I see one of those large, deluxe motorhomes I ask my self how many nights could I stay at a nice hotel for the price, maintenance, insurance, gas and repairs? Like the BOAT acronym joke, bust out another thousand, don't know what the motorhome equivalent would be.

Cool hostels, antique trailers, geodesic dome houses, yurts. There are so many nice places to stay and you don't have to maintain them.
