I drove from Leh to Hanle on this route in October 2023. It took me more than 15 hours. I started my journey around 2 pm from Leh and reached hanle at around 7.30 am the next morning. We were 5 people. I was driving an Isuzu v cross 4x4. I drove on 4x2 gear. Used 4x4 gear 2 or 3 times, only to cross the obstacle. We cooked maggi at Chumur in -6°C. As we were getting close to Hanle, the temperature kept dropping. At around 4 am the temperature was -15°C without any snow around. It was an amazing experience. I would love to drive here again. I really wish that BRO doesn't build more roads here on this route. When the roads are built the humans should be educated about not littering and keeping these beautiful places safe. It breaks my heart when I see trash at such beautiful places. Be respectful towards nature.
Abhimanyu bhai, that is amazing adventure am sure.. and well 15 hours of journey and that too towards the end of the leg.. well must have been some crazy experience I can imagine. I still cannot believe you were able to find the way on this route in the middle of night.. it just bamboozles me because finding a way on this route was so difficult even in day time for us just a month before between Chumur and Hanle... unless they made the entire track clear in a month it feels so challenging... so am not sure how you figured it out in the middle of night there, bravo I will say for this kind of adventure but I am sure I cannot do it ever or will recommend anyone to do it..... simply leaves me shocking!! Hi! Do you know if foreigners can visit Chumur? The actual village... with PAP of course - just like tso moriri. And Ryul lake? Any nomads over there? Thank you!
No, foreginers cannot visit Chumur and most likely you will be stopped at there before entering the village and I will say do not take the risk without written persmission at all in such sensitive close to border area. Nomads keep moving but this time we could not find anyone between Hanle to Chumur, mostly workers were there for the roads. However there were some nomads we met and came across between Chiling Tso and Ryul Tso lakes. And since there were lot of sheeps too around there, so I am sure there should be more Nomads too.
@matteobedendo yeah I do not think there should be any issues visiting there as you are anyways allowed till Hanle so that region is a bit inside the border than Hanle
Yes, you can camp up there but make sure you do not litter, bring back everything, you are very well prepared for such camping in remote area, have enough food/drinks etc, and very very well acclimatized to sleep at 16,000 feet.
Hi Dheeraj, your videos and blog are really informative, thanks for keeping us updated! Also, I am travelling from Delhi - Pathankot - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - Nubra - Pangong Tso - Sarchu - Manali. 1. Can you please confirm the odd/even rules as of June for Sarchu to Manali? I belive they would've changed since 31st May and 1st June are both odd days. 2. Are there any other routes s here which are also following odd-even rules? 3. Lastly, can you suggest a good layover apot between Panging and Sarchu - I believe it'd ve risky trying to cover it in ine day, trying to evening/night driving. Apologize for too many questions, but you're the obly person who seems to be actively interacting with us. 😊
1. You are right but a day or two back due to snowfall, Manali Leh was closed so may be that shifts it but I will update the latest in a day. 2. No, only Manali Leh remain. 3. If you want to stay between Pangong and Sarchu then better go back to Leh and stay there else do it directly to Sarchu
I had already done this route earlier in 2013 so was using that directional sense rest on spot guidance from the labors working. I Did not use any offline maps here.

Reminds me of some of the cowboy western movies I had watched during my hey days. Tso Moriri looks mesmerising from the other end. Thanks.🙏 By the way, is it possible to cover Leh-Teri-Tso Moriri-Sarchu-Manali in 2N 3D with 2 hours break at Tso Moriri by taxi? Will it be too hectic?
@@discoverwithdheeraj considering the distance between Tso Moriri and Sarchu, Tso Kar is a better option yes, but is accommodation easily available there? On Google map I spotted just 2-3 camps around. I also am not sure if a group of 4-5 can just walk in and get accommodation there. The place is certainly not connected by phone or internet. How's Pang as an alternative for a night's stay? Then again, I'm not sure if I can do it as I wish, because I'm solo and I have to find 3-4 other mates before I could share a taxi! Just exploring the possibilities. After completing the Spiti circuit, I have just about 5-6 days at my disposal from June 8-14 to complete the Keylong-Leh-Tso Moriri-Manali-Chandigarh circuit and catch a train either on 14 June morning from Chandigarh, or on 15 June night from Delhi back home. So, my Ladakh trip cannot be extended beyond those dates. .
I have no clue how I missed this sir.. seems my YT Creator App notifications causing me miss many comments.. 1. Tso Kar has decent options, similar to Tso Moriri a little less upscale though. But you can find few options in budget. It seems likely you may get there because mostly the birding enthusiast visit the place. 2. Pang is all make shift tents sir, Tso Kar you will have at least some permanent strcutures. 3. Hmmm... that makes it pretty tight though and plus not having a dedicated transport may mean less flexibility.
@@discoverwithdheeraj thanks Dheeraj. I am also finding the possibility to cover Zanskar via Kargil by shared cab and return via Shinku La to Manali. Any convenient route that can take me back to Manali from Leh in 3 days. Not explored Zanskar as yet. I can always revisit Leh-Ladakh by air in the future. This time it is a road trip.

Bhai for this route, I doubt there will be any map having coverage as they are still making the road as you saw in my video. I believe if someone has some GPX or KML file that can be loaded to a custom map or Google MyMaps, then may be it can be used. I wish I could have recorded that GPX file for it. Otherwise, I am not sure which map will help. Download the portion of google map at least whatever is available it will help you with it.

Yes, outside rental bikes from other states are only allowed to reach Leh but not allowed to do sightseeing in Ladakh to places like Nubra and Pangong Lake. You need to rent again after reaching Leh.

@@discoverwithdheeraj Thank you very much! I tought so... but still allowed to Ryul tso?
@matteobedendo yeah I do not think there should be any issues visiting there as you are anyways allowed till Hanle so that region is a bit inside the border than Hanle
Sir can we do camping at night at chilling lake ?
Yes, you can camp up there but make sure you do not litter, bring back everything, you are very well prepared for such camping in remote area, have enough food/drinks etc, and very very well acclimatized to sleep at 16,000 feet.
Sir when was this travel made ?? 2024 ?
Its there in the video at the start.. September 2023
Can you let us know which offline maps you were using ??
I had already done this route earlier in 2013 so was using that directional sense rest on spot guidance from the labors working. I Did not use any offline maps here.

Watched it on the TV for better viewing experience.
I truly appreciate you and your team taking us in new directions while going through high risk. Another awesome VLog.
Reminds me of some of the cowboy western movies I had watched during my hey days. Tso Moriri looks mesmerising from the other end.
Thanks.🙏
By the way, is it possible to cover Leh-Teri-Tso Moriri-Sarchu-Manali in 2N 3D with 2 hours break at Tso Moriri by taxi? Will it be too hectic?
Thank you so much sir... yes you can do like
Leh - Teri - Cho House (1 night)
Teri - Tso Moriri Lake - Tso Kar (2nd Night)
Tso Kar - Jispa - Manali
@kudpiraj that would be better sir and like you said always visit Ladakh by air later.. zanskar should be visited before its like Ladakh 😀

Offline maps Konse use kia aapne is route pe ?
Koi map nahin use kiya dost.. Kyon Tso Lakes tak main pehle hi gaya hua tha 2013 mein to wahan ka raasta pata tha.. baaki Salsala La se Chumur to Tso moriri wahan labors and all se puchte hue pahunch gaye bas
@@discoverwithdheeraj ok sir
But ap recommend Konsa map kroge offline navigation klye is route pr ?
Bhai for this route, I doubt there will be any map having coverage as they are still making the road as you saw in my video. I believe if someone has some GPX or KML file that can be loaded to a custom map or Google MyMaps, then may be it can be used. I wish I could have recorded that GPX file for it. Otherwise, I am not sure which map will help. Download the portion of google map at least whatever is available it will help you with it.

Hello I came across your page while researching for my upcoming leg/ladakh family trip in August
I wanted help in understanding the accommodations at Hanle, Moriri lake, Pangong lake. We have a rough 11 day itinerary planned I would love to discuss it with you and your team as well. I am doubting how exhausting this trip would be especially for my uncle aunt and cousin who will be traveling from UK and leaving a just a day later for this extensive trip. Since we are also traveling during Independence Day and along other holidays I wanted your opinion on roads and how it might affect our travel plans especially since it’s also monsoon season
Hello Sanika, I will suggest you check this video of mine:

Hello brother Sharma, I am Indonesian, l have plan to explore by motorcycle from New Delhi to Leh > Chamba > Killar then Nubra valley, next year around June till July 2025.
Please advice route with starting and ending at New Delhi, where do i can rent motor bike 150 cc or moped type motor cycle, thank you and safe ride.By the way, does this area this your video far from my planned route?
Hello... yes this area is a bit different from Nubra Valley. I can help you plan but how many today days do you have?
@@discoverwithdheeraj Hello i have 30 days for this journey, and the window between June 01,2025 till July 31,2025,
thank you
Well, you then can then do it all... 30 days is more than enoguh time to cover all this
Thank you for your information, by the way, I saw your RUclips channel that motor cycle for road trip at mountain side/ Ladakh district should rent from Manali, please advice.@@discoverwithdheeraj
Yes, outside rental bikes from other states are only allowed to reach Leh but not allowed to do sightseeing in Ladakh to places like Nubra and Pangong Lake. You need to rent again after reaching Leh.
Who were the braVe riders?
That’s my brother in law and a traveler who accompanied us from Hanle
