  • There was a spectacular display of hot air balloons on 7th April 2011 as balloonists from across the UK and Europe attempted to set a new world record.
Fifty hot air balloons made it across the Channel from Dover to Calais after launching from Lydden Hill Race Circuit to commence the four hour flight.
Leading the balloons was a 61-ft tall smoke-breathing dragon shaped balloon developed for Palletways, Europe's market leader in the express distribution of small consignments of palletised freight and sponsor of the world record attempt.
The dragon balloon is not only the largest of its kind, but also the only hot air balloon in the UK with a glass bottomed 'basket'.
Said Paul Komuro, marketing consultant to Palletways:"Not only has this event been an exhilarating experience and an amazing spectacle, it has also presented an opportunity to support three very worthwhile charities, including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Halow Project."
