Word is some local education authorities don't have any places, and are being forced to send the pupils back to public school but with the authority picking up the tab. Public schools, again by all accounts, once they become Vat registered, can claim back Vat on expenditure going back 10 years, apparently Eton plans to claim up to 100 million (sounds a bit high to me). Whether or not these are unintended consequences, the result is equally disastrous.
@@nigelwatson2750 everyone and everything pays vat, not everyone can claim it back, I'm just saying what I've heard, and if true then imposing Vat on public schools will be a net cost to the treasury.
You see this kind of ignorance in most government decision making these days. They always assume a static analysis whereas the system they are disturbing is dynamic and has lots of feedbacks. In other words, time dependent.
Yes, time is always the fourth dimension that gets forgotten about. In Epidemiology training one could see those that had the mental gymnastics to think in terms of a dynamic system and those that couldn’t. Those that could qualified with epidemiology masters. Those that couldn’t qualified with masters in public health. Explains a lot.

Thanks Nigel. Excellent video. Always happy to see when you’ve done another one. My son will be leaving. I’ll be staying, for now. I love my country, what it was at least. So think I should stay to battle it out. Although the economic aspect (debt meaning we’re bust and our creditors are taking over the state) may be the underlying cause (along with deadly sins beneath that), there’s another aspect being driven by the creditors it seems to me. And that is this: we are being put in a kill box (military style). Every policy they bring in contributes to more people being brought onto a conveyor belt to premature death. People can sense it even without knowing what’s actually happening. We can sense a darkness. It happens when unnatural death is near. Natural death when someone has faith and is going to the father is entirely different. The dark cloak I have felt from observing the independent statistics since 2020/2021 saps the lifeblood from one’s soul. From that point one can rebuild. It’s like a reverse cremation! From your ashes you put yourself together again, just this time without all the lies and preconceptions one had as building blocks before. One sees lies and truth as they are, rather than inverted. Very liberating experience, even as the physical prison/kill box closes ever more tightly around us in UK.
@@nigelwatson2750Indeed. When we moved house didn’t re-register so they think I live somewhere else. We eat eggs, meat, milk (raw when we can travel to bulk buy it), berries, yoghurt, a few veg occasionally. Own water supply. It takes time but getting there. River temp currently 10 degrees. Measuring it so can see whether could move ‘ fridge’ to river. Maybe Dec-March. When looking at electricity consumption it’s the fridge and freezers, on all the time, that are the thing that ties us to the grid dictates.
Oh, come on, things ain't brilliant but it's no worse than any other Western world country. Doomsday prophesy aside, all these unwelcome guests we have want to come here, not stay in Europe! Strange that, isn't it? Then there are the massive house-building projects on an unprecedented scale, I doubt investment would flow if the shit was to hit the fan immediately.

From the Guardian - The UK’s biggest and richest private schools are in line for substantial financial windfalls as a consequence of the government’s plan to impose VAT on their fees, according to official new guidance issued by tax authorities. A document issued by HMRC on Thursday made clear that, once registered for VAT, independent schools will be able to claim back the tax they have paid on capital projects such as buildings and land acquisition completed over the past 10 years. They will also be able to now claim VAT back on operating costs and are developing significant capital projects on which they will also be able to claim the VAT back. In short, the taxpayer will now be funding 20% of their running costs and capital projects. It is a windfall gain to the privileged independent schools at the expense of the taxpayer. 🤦♂

This is very good but with an important exeption, all taxes are toxic for the economy. We lose at least 25% of production and gain a massive and ever growing welfare bill. Please talk about the tax which is the exception. It is discussed by Adam Smtih and David Ricardo.
Don’t bother with state school, home school if at all possible. If personal circumstances allow. If my SIPP gets taxed to high heaven, then precious metals/coins of the realm look more inviting. Even gold on the blockchain has a serious use case.
You never hear government say they will implement a Tobin tax on stock market trades. Apparently if you applied a 0.5% tax on every trade we could clear the national debt in a couple of years. Of course it’s not a perfect solution, but what tax is? Lets not forget the inflation tax, the most hidden tax of all.
Some private schools are for special needs kids, arent they? It's not just wealthy people Perhaps you have viewers in this dilemma who could comment. Regardless, the better off parents targetted by this might have escaped or survived earlier tax increases, so the govt will be making enwmies all round. A veritable own goal, as youve said, Nigel.

Public schools, again by all accounts, once they become Vat registered, can claim back Vat on expenditure going back 10 years, apparently Eton plans to claim up to 100 million (sounds a bit high to me).
Whether or not these are unintended consequences, the result is equally disastrous.
How can a private school reclaim VAT when they never paid any in the first place?
@@nigelwatson2750 they can claim it on items purchased eg stationary, office goods etc

High taxes just restrict growth, an honest Gov would prefer smaller tax's of a bigger pie, rather then a larger tax of a small pie
They were debating out loud on the BBC the idea of imposing taxing money being taken out of the UK. Are we being primed?
Yes, exactly.
Comrade Stammer's doing the best it can for its WEF masters.
They can tax leisure time. If your at home relaxing, you will be needing heating to keep warm, driving somewhere to watch a film, more tax on your fuel. A drive into the countryside, its all taxed, theres no escape.

But private schools already don't pay VAT

@@nigelwatson2750 Eton College is in line to receive a £4.8m “handout” from the Government because of a clause in its private school tax raid. Under the new legislation, private schools will be able to recover historic VAT they paid on capital expenditure including buildings and land acquisition over the past 10 years.
Excellent basic analysis.
Quite an effective way to get the plebs out of the private school sector I'd say.

Wow, try all you can to stay away from the NHS and try to avoid their processed food.

From the Guardian -
The UK’s biggest and richest private schools are in line for substantial financial windfalls as a consequence of the government’s plan to impose VAT on their fees, according to official new guidance issued by tax authorities.
