Hey ghouls and ghosts, its your good buddy Uncle Ben with a super SPOOKTACULAR Ghost breakdown!!! Y'all know Ghost and the halloween season are 2 of my favorite things, so how about we mash em up and dig deep into Cirice (Meliora)?!?! In this video, i'm gonna take you on a riff by riff, lick by lick journey through EVERY guitar part in this song, from the intro all the way to that awesome guitar solo! You'll be getting lessons along the way about how Ghost makes themselves sound so evil, including explanations of their harmonies, intervallic choices, phrasing, and more! We're also gonna get deep into the solo and how i transcribed it, which features a couple little mysteries of its own!
Playing my Dunable Cyclops in D standard tuning, into a Boss Super Overdrive SD-1, into the Amplified Nation Ampliphonix and Gain head through my Suhr RL/IR box, which has a killer Ownhammer Marshall IR loaded into it! Delay and reverb courtesy of Logic plugins.
What Ghost sound should we get a lesson on next? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for learning Cirice with Uncle Ben Eller!!! What Ghost song do you want to learn about next?!?!
Spirit or He Is would be great picks
From the Pinnacle to the Pit or Year Zero would be cool. .
Spirit!! Especially that tasty guitar noodling in the solo.
Majesty !
He is please
Gotta say this song is a bit of a masterpiece.
10:30 You just compressed the entire Ghost spirit (no pun intended) in two sentences. That sus4 resolution. It sounds bright, but at the same time epic and... diabolic. While thrash and black metal show the dark side of Satan by accenting on the diminished fourth (dat devil's triton, ya know), Ghost sort of goes the opposite. Tobias shows Satan's seductive, sexy side, his disguise as the good boi, bringer of light and stuff. Triton is Behemoth, sus4 is Lucifer. Damn I'm a f***ing poet here.
Hello frrrrrriend
satan has a sexy seductive side?
Thanks buuuuddy!!!!
@@chriscullen6949 don't take it too close to your heart man ;-)
And the funny thing is....it's all Beatles
What's cool about Ghost to me is the music is never as heavily distorted as you remember but it still hits hard.
That’s because their sound and their production is pretty damn tight and I love them for it!
My wife's license plate is "Cirice" We took one off of the car and had the band sign it when we met them a few years ago. We told motor vehicle that one of the plates got stolen and we hung it on the wall in our music room.
Uncle ben during his ghost phase is the best uncle ben ever
gojira wasn't a phase so makes sense?
I also like Uncle Mastoben
Ghost is one of the most creative bands in a long long time. You know a band is special when it pisses off the gatekeepers!
Love Ghost. It took me a few try’s over a few years but DAMN Tobias is a genius, fantastic songwriter and one hell of an entertainer.
Similar here... I wanted to like them but couldn't get into them listening to the studio albums.. but I listen to their live recordings the sound is so much better... fatter.. dirtier.. and sexier IMO
“It’s a little tricky, but it’s a treat” did not expect that
Not only that, but he threw a quick “meow” in there just before “it’s a little tricky...” He must’ve loved Super Troopers, because he’s all about peppering his scripts with subliminal meows 😸
@@TestMeatDollSteak Was that a "yes, sir", or a "year, sure"?
Definitely my favourite band of the last 10 years. I don't know what it is but listening to Ghost gives me a feeling no other band can give me.
Agreed
Agreed, except maybe for their latest album, which don't mesure up to their previous records.
@@MrMickeycrazy In my opinion it's as equal of a masterpiece as Meliora, though I had to listen to it a few times to really get into it :).
@VeganGhost FanForLife Your bullshit. It s a f-ing pop album. All the original gouls have left the band and it shows big time. For me the next album gonna decided if I'm staying a Ghost fan, which i am of their first 3 albums. The last one sucks.
@@MrMickeycrazy when you like a band you don't stop liking them based on one album
Met Uncle Ben at a Ghost show. Now I'm watching Uncle Ben breakdown Cirice. It doesn't get much better than this kiddos. You're the man Uncle Ben 😄.
Keyboard solo is a killer! Let us see it on guitar.
Boss SY-2?
yes sir, it would be rad to get tab for that
yes please the keyboard solo would be sick dude, great lesson btw, love how you break everything down with both parts for quick lessons :D
I love hearing your commentary on the riffs themselves. I’m not much of a theory guy, (I only really play for fun), so it’s nice to hear a more technical explanation on why things sound the way they do.
Also. That guitar is AWESOME!
Ben, why in the heck do you not have 10M subs?! This is the best instructional channel on the interwebz, by far. Keep up the great work my man and i'll keep doing the hard part by watching and learning.
Thank you, Rick!
Pinnacle to the Pit is my fav. Some sick riffs in that one too.
God damn I love Ghost and Uncle Ben.
I can't stop hearing that fret buzz with the cleans due to the down tuning. I'm shocked that doesn't bother Ben.
Keep up the awesome lessons Ben, you are one of the giants.
That's a yes from me for the keyboard/organ solo.
Yesss Cirice Phrygian keyboard solo!
Never heard of them until now
Now I'm digging them
One of my favorite current bands. I have seen them live twice already.
Love the comments on major thirds not being “metal” but Ghost pulling it off. Dimebag used major thirds all over the place and always made it sound heavy as hell.
You can't make a horror movie without those stupid, happy teenie boppers who walk right into the psycho killer.
Slayer too
Even Raining Blood is in a Major key.
Goosebumps will always have a place in my heart
Dude... yes! I just recently learned this entire song and ever since I saw people asking for you to do this one, I've been dying to see you transcribe the keyboard solo. Do ittt!
Found out about Ghost only a few months ago. The songwriting is stellar! For me they (well, Tobias Forge) are in the realm of musical gods, in the same class as Black Sabbath and Zeppelin
Thanks for highlighting Cirice. Ghost is underrated in my opinion. That said, I don't love Every song they have, but, the ones I like, I freaking love. I think Cirice is just beautiful, and Dance Macabre is just fun as all get out! They have at AC/DC mentality of 'if its us, it aint hard.' Very beautiful, yet easy to understand. Great band!
That intro gave me .....goosebumps ....looks at camera...raises a eyebrow ..smiles and nods ....
One of my favorite modern metal tunes, thanks for the detailed breakdown!
By far the most accurate break down of this song on RUclips ! Absolution would be screaming 😱
Yes for the keyboard solo. Anything Ghost is always interesting. They’ve become one of my favorite bands the last few years. Majesty would be a cool one to do a video on 🤘
So nice to get Beato-like wisdom and breakdown for this tune
Beato has never heard of this band....it's not Sting, Steely Dan, or Chick Corea
@fcamiola he's got more range than that, but I get what you mean. Lately he's fallen into the youtuber trap of clicks over value. He used to do What Makes this Song Great, and now it's "here's what sucks about __". He's got good guests in my opinion, but I was never there for interviews. Anyhow, stay cool Uncle Ben!
Cool video Ben, not the normal note selections we here in our standard metal tunes. I actually like that solo section as well because it has melody to it. Great job and thanks!
Goosebumps brother your killing it!!!awesome content love the amp and axe
Oh my god that triplet run in the solo tripped me up to when I was learning it 3 years ago! I remember trying to slow down live footage to see what the exact notes were - Never occurred to me that it might be a happy accident. Thanks for this video even if it’s three years too late for me 😉
Sir, thank you. There's so much more to learn from you. I think we all appreciate what you do musically and you as a teacher.
Awesome jorb as always, Uncle Ben. And let's say yes, we wanna see that sweet keyboard solo broken down. A video like this that breaks down "Time" by Pink Floyd would be amazing. Get in on that Gilmour goodness.
Yes! We want to see the keyboard transcribed !! Great stuff
It is something else hearing them live, such an amazing band.
Yes,Ben, definitely hook up that keyboard solo! I was thinking it would be cool to learn before this video!
Glad to see this as I like Ghost and am learning some. I have been watching vids and comparing tab and was pretty sure every change of Ghoul resulted in each song being playing in different positions. It would be great to see what you find in Majesty. That one has a variety of inconsistencies.
YES! Would love that keyboard solo on guitar!
Another killer video. Uncle Ben will not miss.
Love the Goosebumps soundtrack
over the intro 🤘🏻
Such a great song, thanks for the lesson! And yes we would love to hear the keyboard solo on guitar!
Hi, you're probably correct in saying that Tobias isn' t a mega shredder. But he sure is a mega genius :-)
I’ll take a great song over a great solo every time.
Big ol' yes to the keyboard solo transcription. I would love more of that kind of thing. Transcription of keyboard shredding is no small feat.
Thank you so much for this video! I've been playing guitar for like 2.5 months now and the main riff is one of the first riffs I've tried to play, I'm trying to learn the rest of the riffs now, but in tabs and videos I've found always sounded kinda off. This is really cool, thanks again.
Also Cirice is one of the best songs I've ever listens to ever in my opinion, and your analaysis just cemented this further haha.
Edit: Yes please I'd love to see a video on the keyboard solo, I don't think I've ever seen it played "properly" not even on videos of them live, it always sounds off.
Man, I love your vids, Uncle Ben! I work as a composer now, but I was a guitarist back in the days, and I still love rock/metal. Ghost is one of my favs, because it's huge conceptual imagery that surrounds it (and I also have a sweet spot for Satan. oh well...).
I would like to see you analyse both 'Square Hammer' and 'Witch Image', because there is one interesting similarity between the two songs, which I find pretty interesting in a way, that supposably Tobias wrote the two songs approximately in the same period (even though they came out on two different releases).
Thank you, Uncle Ben. I love that you have a different take than other youtubers. I look forward to following your tab!
a breakdown of majesty would be really cool, that song is thick with unexpected harmonies and the interaction between bass and guitar is killer.
Soooo much CANDLEMASS in Ghost....So good to hear
Those spooky harmonies, especially while slowed down, remind me of Crowbar!
It's a happy day when our Uncle Ben uploads
This was awesome! And yes the keyboard solo is killer in this track
I straight up deeply like you Uncle Ben !
Nothin’ for nothin’ but i absolutely love that painting behind you.
Thanks, Ben. Best breakdown of a Ghost song I've seen.
This is a yes vote for conversion of the keyboard solo to ghoultar.
Cirice is such a cool song, with really interesting guitar parts. Say what you want about Tobias Forge, but that dude can write a song!👻
Brilliant guy
At 11:06 - "awkward position shifts and weird fingerings". dude, why you gotta talk about my dating life. Oh wait - you were talking about the fretboard. Never mind...
😂😂
I'm all for Uncle Ben's keyboard breakdowns of Ghost and other metal songs
Would love to see the keyboard solo Ben, excellent job on this video🤘🤘
Ghost sounds to me as if Yes had hired Dave Mustaine to write their guitar lines. And I am saying this as a positive.
Goosebumps theme in the intro.... nice.
rocking the grunge pedal in the background lol !!! first pedal i ever played flashbacks.
Nailed the tone as always!!
Touching on your mom's second husband, and then pondering why your parents got divorced... You okay Ben? I feel like you need to talk.
Doubled guitar solos are more especially a Black Sabbath thing. Great videos, Uncle Ben!
You're the man Uncle Ben! Thanks for doing what you do.
Do you think there is life on earth
Great tune and sounds huge live, they kill it on stage.
Thank you for doing this, I was one of the ones who wished you'd do this track on your Facebook. 🤘😊
Randy Rhoads references make my musical heart swell 🤘 Excellent teaching Uncle Ben!
The sound is amazing
Thank you sooo much, yes please for the breakdown lesson too.
thank you uncle ben, i've been practicing this one for a long time, and the solo always gets me, lets see if i can finally do it
That CLEAN tone is CRISPY
I like the riff on Goosebumps in the intro!
Amazing song, amazing video by the amazing uncle Ben! Great job man keep up the great work!🤘🏻
Would love a tab of the keyboard part. Henrik Palm (Ghost bass player from 2015-2016) actually recorded a lot of guitar on Meliora. Tobias was upset because Henrik messed up a part that made it onto the final record and in the 2017 lawsuit Henrik wanted writing credit for his flub. I wonder if it was that one note in the solo? Either way, you don’t get credit for messing up.
Whoa, what part would that be?!
@@BenEller I don't remember it specifically stated that the messed up part was in Cirice, but it's alleged there's a messed up part somewhere on Meliora, but only Tobias can confirm it for sure.
breaking down ghost is the best. they have plenty of great music that is appreciated by both metalheads as well as the general audience.
Everytime you post I feel the NEED to play. We love you man. 🤘🏻 please never stop making content
Wow, thank you. I have absolutely no clue how to play guitar but I really love to learn why I love a song so much. I was addicted to this song when it started and now you explained me why. Awesome!
Love to see that keyboard solo transcribed, you the man Uncle Ben 🤘🤘
Brilliant lesson Ben. Love the Ghost lessons!!!!!
Bruh that guitar and the company that made it is badass!
I've never listened to Ghost -- but still enjoyed the lesson.
Go in with an open mind and just enjoy. We have to be grateful that there's still bands / artists trying to pull something original to save rock and roll in general.
Yes. Keyboard solo!
I play that on bass and it sounds sick by itself...add it all up...righteous
I would like to see that keyboard solo for sure Uncle Ben!
sweet jebus that amp and guitar sound great together.
Unc always has the best October vid'jas! 🤘
One of my favourite bands ever
Uncle Ben always delivers the goods.
Great lesson. Yes, I'd love to see the keyboard solo transcribed.
Thanks for your video ! I was struggling with transcribing these pieces of triplet wizardry : you helped a ton ! (ps : the doubling of the solo killed a few of my brain cells too ). Cheers from France !
Great song and excellent lesson/explanations Uncle Ben!
This is fun i was jamming and just improvised something which reminded me of Cirice then i wanted to learn it. And then uncle Ben puts a video perfect timing!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're funny. And your teaching is simple and effective. Imma do the Patreonic act and.. Patreon?
8:02...hell yeah! I've been slamming the A flat tonic and it's major third against an augmented fifth open E on the the bass...it sounds like dark catacombs are opening up! 🤘😁...
...then I add some minor tones and it gives it a creepy/pretty sound...
Thanks. I haven't got into Ghost but this sounds cool
10:28...that part is sounding like Van Halen...
Ben: so there's the keyboard solo, but maybe just maybe you'll be interested in a breakdown...
Us: did you just asked if we want more Ghost?
