- The Z8 is a beautiful piece of design, one of BMW's greats. Under the sculpted body hides the S62 V8 from the E39 M5, but from factory you wouldn't know it with the standard exhaust system muffling that glorious V8.
When our friends at Supersprint saw we had added a Z8 to the collection they wasted no time reminding us that they make a full exhaust system including the manifolds... and how could we say no!
So we get the full system fitted, take it out for a drive to hear that wonderful combination and get it on the dyno to see how much more power we've gained with our Stage 2 ECU Tune.

Great upgrade. I was lucky enough to see the car in the flesh yesterday at BMW Summerfest - for me, it was the star of the show. Best car on display, and that's without hearing it!
I just realised as I was watching the video, I went from listening carefully to what Imran was saying to smiling from the moment you put the roof down and listening to the car.

The standard car wasn’t quite the dream, with these few tweaks it’s just about there. The exhaust note is a huge part of that, the experience when driving has been transformed.

Love the induvial pipes for the headers, makes the install easier compare to a normal long tube headers you'd have for a high performance/drag racing muscle car V8. Packaging it under the car is the hardest part about exhaust design

We considered weighing it but the stock system is incredible difficult to weigh on the scales we have so didn’t. Imagine someone has done the comparison for E39 M5 and it wouldn’t be too dissimilar.

Honestly, Mr. Imrans Z8 "tuning" is fucking redundant. All these exhaust system things are totally "old coffee", dude!... As we say here in Germany!

Great video. Clear and noticeable improvement. I have a 2002 e39 M5 which I have owned from day one. I obtained the exhaust from you about a year ago and after watching this video I am interested in doing the full system, but I reside in sunny and beautiful California which also has the most stringent smog/emission regulations. Therefore, my concern is whether or not the system you have on the Z8 will be compliant in California. Appreciate your guidance in this matter. Thank you.

This system is fully road legal in the UK as we have retained the emissions equipment, but I know California have more stringent regulations.
You should give the Z8 an Eventuri intake to complement the Supersprint exhaust. Then it changes the whole attitude of the car.

Beautifully manufactured exhaust love the new tail pipes , a perfect bmw improved !!! , was the road test after the rolling road tune ? If not t would be interested to see if any improvement again in acoustics

I've had a Z8. I hear very little difference from the standard version. It sounds like that with the roof off anyway.
The difference is huge.

They are incredible cars, but a few tweaks to bring out the true character of the car… Plus nothing that can’t be returned to standard.

Can the supersprint headers be fitted to a B10 V8 retaining the ALPINA exhaust?
Best to ask Supersprint on that to confirm, they support a huge amount of models including the more unusual ones such as Alpina.
hey there. with some headers you get a slight mis fire low down without a tune. is this because the the o2 sensor can't read it quick enough?
Not something we’ve ever really experienced, but similarly we pretty much always tune a vehicle that has had headers fitted.
Such a pity these don't have a limited slip differential.
Guess it’s sort of a sign of what BMW intended the car to be, that it didn’t share the differential from the E39 M5.
Underneath it’s an interesting mix of ‘interesting’ and fairly mundane parts.

Oem tips I recon looked a bit better, but what a quality system that exhaust is.
Supersprint offer an exhaust that retains the fake tips of the standard system for those that wish. Frankly the slash cut tips following the bumper is a real highlight for us.
@@EvolveAutomotive yeh tbf I’m leaning towards the new cut tips having watched the whole video, seems to fit the silhouette of the car a bit better than the stock ones. The z8 painted undertray/diffuser is thing to behold!

@@DrEMichaelJones no this car is not about 0-60. It's for Crusing around in the sun. It was done for sound. The power is just a by product.

Can't help but think the reason the OEM pipes were fake was to stop heat and smoke damaging the bumper.
No problems so far, imagine its much more likely due to that being way easier to manufacture and assemble on a production line.
@EvolveAutomotive maybe this was a trial for BMW as to whether to go this route and they abandoned it then? Seems odd they never did this before or since the Z8, whilst most others all do it now
The Z8 was very different in design at the time, with the tips coming out from inside the bumper rather than hanging below.
Supersprint make an option that retains the standard tip design, but we think the replacement design that follows the cut of the bumper is just stunning, and it really cleans up the design of the rear of the car.

Any experience without the pre-resonator? 🖖
We have only installed this exact setup. Without the resonator I would expect a louder exhaust with perhaps a bit more rasp.

@@EvolveAutomotive jap. i.m That close to it. In 2001 i Hand mine with the wiesmann absorbers. I think it was bosal. The Sound was so perfect for me. Because i like the deep rev. Stamping like a lands bulldog turning around the corner in second Gear. I Wonder if a Custom Header is helpful in this case.

Most of our customers who buy headers are based in the USA so makes sense to refer to them that way

The S62 is based on the M62 V8, which came in a few different displacements.
It's called roof, not hood.
