A lot of great advice/lessons in this video, for sure. Thankfully, or, annoyingly, depending on your perspective, I'm the type of person who HATES wasting good money on something I will never use, or enjoy; to date, I haven't purchased a full bottle of a fragrance that I didn't love. Watching videos/channels like this one has been extremely helpful in getting an overall view of a perfume, and forming an opinion on whether or not it's worth even trying. Personally, my best advice is to first buy a 2ml sample, wear the fragrance for at least two or three days, and then decide if you like it, or not. If you do enjoy it, consider purchasing a larger sample like a 5ml or 9ml bottle, wear it for at least two weeks, and then you'll have a much better idea on whether or not it's worth spending "big" money on a 50/75/100ml bottle, that will provide months of daily wear. Another fantastic piece of advice Omar gave was, "Don't full-buy a fragrance that is for 'special occasions', where you'll only wear it maybe a handful of times.". If you're buying a "date night" fragrance, how many dates are you going on? Once or twice a week? Damn, you're popular, and maybe a full bottle makes sense in that case. For the rest of us, a special occasion fragrance would be fine in a 9ml sample bottle, or even a 5ml bottle, depending on the strength of the perfume. Office/Work fragrances that you love deserve full bottles, in my opinion, but anything else you're not sure you're going to wear every day, is most likely worth purchasing in a sample bottle instead. Another awesome video from this channel!
Good vid. I have smelled hype fragrances I couldn't wait to wash off. I also have fragrances I wear only for myself such as Initio Side Effects. Can't really think of an occasion I would wear it out, but I like it.
I’m not a blind but warrior, I’m very intentional with my purchases. I may not wear some of my fragrance as much as I used to but I love every one of them. Word of advice, BUY SAMPLES AND DECANTS. You might love it today but realize you hate it tomorrow and a 10 to 20 dollar decant is a lot easier to get rid of than a 250 dollar full bottle.
Thankfully I've always thoroughly tested Niche before buying. I got a 5 ml of Instant Crush and had the same thoughts it was very potent Saffron, Vanilla, smoky sugar accord that leaned feminine to me so I didn't feel fully confident wearing it. Torino 21 was one of the best uses of Mint Leaf I've experienced, and I think it would be worth a buy but there's some other Green notes in it that kind of bother me after a while think it might be the Basil, Thyme combo. Like you described just came off as sharp but otherwise the Lemon and Mint is gorgeous. I really want to try Torino 22 now.
Thanks for this vid …struggling myself with bottles of fragrances that I purchased but rarely wear!!! Too, too expensive now to continue on that road …currently just sampling via 3-5ml decants and deciding -don’t like, like, but probably won’t wear often, or definitive “yes” -gotta get!😃 Some full bottle regrets: Sunshine Man, Psychedelique, Oud du jour -all I like, but rarely reach for!
My regrets are Amouage Epic, Amouage Interlude, Amouage Interlude Black Iris, and Amouage Royal Tobacco. Don’t fall for the hype is right. If you can get to a store to smell these then do that. Unfortunately no one near me carries Amouage and if these are the houses heavy hitters then I understand why. The gluten for punishment in me wants to try Lyric, Boundless, Reflection/Reflection 45, Jubilation 25, Search, Purpose, Enclave, and Beach Hut but I am concerned with how the others went.
I actually purchased full bottles of enclave and beach hut man after sampling. Enclave is “minty leather” and I love wearing it on cooler weather. Beach hut man is a beast mode “mature” freshie so no citrus but lots of ivy and vetiver I think
#1 What’s a good fresh fragrance I can just throw in my toiletry bag , one that lasts long. #2 is Mont Blanc Legend spirit a good daily fragrance for work that would last 9 hours? If not what do you recommend I should use for a daily fresh Summer fragrance that lasts 9+ hours (for a teen )
Instant crush definitely smells similar to baccarat, but it’s not exact. I would also argue the Torino 22 smells similar to Bacharach not to mention significantly more expensive than instant crush. My only issue with instant crush is for some reason the oils bother my skin.
Thanks for this video . Besides that , I have to thank you for your recommendation of Loewe 7 Cobalt . I have bought a 100ml bottle , I really enjoyed it , and I am planning to buy another bottle as backup . I have a good fragrances collection , but this Loewe 7 Cobalt took the blue scent to another level , in addition to the great performance (longevity & sillage). I also recommend it to anyone .
Man, Kalan is one of the best perfumes ever made. Perfect unique signature scent. Opening is just part of a perfume’s “journey” on the skin. IMO under the radar niche gem. 💎
Not able to bring much to the table, my only niche is Aoud lemon mint, if anything my next niche could be just cedrat boise intense unless I get a massive windfall and get a load of Amouage (Interlude Black Iris may sit in the basket for a long time)
I like all my niche purchases because I take my full time to make the decision after I followed your rule quality over quantity and also I stay away from the weird artistic choices only what can suitable for the hot weather here in Egypt
Luckily i always test samples first. Regret: amouage - beach hut (strong old fashioned shaving soap). Bois imperial (industrial cleaning supplies). Prada - Luna rossa black (hardly detectable smell, weak performance). Xerjoff - 40 knots (very weird scent). Xerjoff - torino 21 (too harsh and aggresive). D&G - the one (hyped but weak performance and boring), stronger with you absolutely (too sweet and overwhelming). Diptique - orpheon (heavenly on strip, very nausiating on skin)
Luckily, i have no big regrets in niche. I did blind buy many designers at the beginning and regreated most of my blind buys. So i learned the lesson and always sampled decants before buying.
I regret buying maison Margella at the barbershop after smelling Tom fords F de A .. I’m giving that a full 10 it smells super in the heat… resonates off my skin
I had a bad experience with Le Labo too. I bought Noir 29 early into my journey because I loved it on paper but I didn't think to wait for the dry down or try it on my skin. Most people don't like the opening and love the dry down and on skin it's the opposite for me. The opening was great but I HATE the dry down. Lesson learned: buy decants first so you can try a full wearing before buying.
The last niche fragrance I bought was Bond No 9 New Bond St. from TJ Maxx on Wednesday, and I love it because it's unique, so it's niche in the sense that it's a niche brand and also it's a unique fragrance to me. It has a nice, sweet cacao aroma that I really like. The first full bottle of a niche fragrance was a couple months ago when I got Mancera Instant Crush. I absolutely love Instant Crush so far too, but it has a scent note that reminds me of Cincinnati chili, specifically Skyline chili. I'm from Cincinnati, and we have this chili that's really runny and served on hot dogs or over spaghetti in various "#-Ways", such as the Three Way has spaghetti, chili, and shredded cheddar cheese. The Four Way also has beans or onions, and the Five Way has all five ingredients. I think that might be a reason why I've gotten a compliment from a random stranger at Kroger, a few weeks ago when I was there with my fiance. We were walking in the store, and heard a lady say someone smelled good, and asked if it was us. Katie, who is probably my ex again now just because I think she's ghosted me again almost two weeks ago, unrelated to this story, said that I was the one into fragrances. So I walked over closer to the lady, and she confirmed that it was me, again said that I smelled amazing, and she asked what fragrance I had used. I told her it was Louis Vuitton Pacific Chill and Ombre Nomade, because I definitely remembered using both of those earlier. But I remembered later that I had also used Instant Crush. I really want to try Mind Games, Penhaligon, and Roja, and also some extrait de parfums, like BDK Gris Charnel Extrait or the Louis Vuitton extrait's, like Symphony or Cosmic Cloud, or Argos Triumph of Bacchus extrait. I have a sample of the Eau de Parfum version of Argos TOB, but haven't tried the extrait.
I also just got Xerjoff Naxos last week, because it was on sale for 15% off on Amazon. I got it for $213, which isn't bad. I really like it so far. The box is probably the fanciest presentation that I've had so far with a fragrance. The outer cardboard box is really nice and colorful, with the Italian flag colors, and the quirky illustration of the head with wings and three legs growing out of it, I guess. The leather case inside the box, that's purple with the giant stylized X on the front is gorgeous too. It's like a giant jewelry box. Upon opening that, the cloth inside that covers the bottle is also just beautiful. The cap is a fingerprint magnet, but it's so pretty too, and the bottle in general is gorgeous. The atomizer works amazingly, and the scent is initially citrus and also some black licorice like scent, but that might be patchouli; I'm not sure. I really like it so far. It dries down to some deeper, richer scent notes, projects far, and lasts a long time. I saw on the Xerjoff website, that you can basically make your own sample pack, by picking four fragrances for 25 Euros. The fact that it's in Euro's was disheartening, and implies that it would take forever to actually get the products, but it seems like that is a way to actually try their fragrances without just blind buying expensive bottles.
I think people dislike it for good reason. There’s a persistent, unpleasant synthetic note that seems to be present in every Bond #9 fragrance I’ve put my nose on.
Buying fragrances and then regretting buying them happens to even the best of us. However, I know you wouldn’t regret shipping one of these fragrances over to me 😏 hehe
Not a major regret because I sold it very quickly, but Hacivat was not for me. I tried to love it, but I am just about to waive the white flag on the "Aventus" style DNA. That was my 5th. Intense Cedrat Boise will be the last. BR 540 DNA isn't for me either.
I regret buying intense caffe by montal (not as good quality as I thought) cedrat boise ( even though its fresh the first hour its cloying from close) aqcua di parma mandorlo di sicilia ( non existent projection) and sadly xerjoff naxos (i don’t reach it much only for special occasions ) and nishane hachivat ( its to generic to my nose ) the fragrances that i mostly enjoy are the ones that are versatile like 40 knots and bois imperial these two are swis army fragrances for me ❤
Sorry but testing both Xerjoff Torino 21 and Torino 22, Torino 21 is MUCH better than 22. Torino 22 smelled horrible off my skin. On the other hand, Torino 21 is a beautiful scent 🔥👌🏽
Feelin bad for my boy Tonka Cola. Amazing scent! And i use it as my signature scent - I'm 28 y.o. guy, more on a funny and playful side of character. And it works just perfect, on my dates, girls love it) I also have Amore caffe, and it slaps. I really enjoy Amore Caffe, when it's cold outside, it has "warming" effect. But for me personally, Tonka Cola is just more unique as a signature.
I agree Bond No9 is a very over hyped house, I have only tried samples and was disappointed with all of them for me my fragrance I regret is Khamzat Smesh by Superz Budapest I loved it for the first few wears but I now find it a bit boreing, for a niche fragrance it is very one dimensional I don't dislike it, but I can't see it getting much use.
@@SchoolOfScent fair enough. Might give it a pass then. I'm not keen on rose and oud but always willing to change my mind on something that stands out. Thanks for the recommendation on Oud Maracuja btw. I got a sample and it's really good in all aspects
Fleur de Peau- Diptique- the aldehydes utterly ruin this fragrance and its inherent airy sweatness ends up smelling dilluted and sweaty Anything by Nishane - just a huge no from me and that whole wretched brand And I don’t get the hype around any Creed fragrances- there’s never any meaningful depth or that inimitable, often oddly unconventional and even sometimes quirky complexity - we normally associate with the high end, high quality niches- all of that is lacking in the very DNA of Creed - which is so overhyped, overprice and overpriced- it’s become utterly trite and has lost any meaning within the community With every single one I have tried, been gifted, blindly and naively baught for myself- I’d always think : This is not a finished product. It lacks layering and depth that is not just on that one level, but multilayered
I got excited when you said you preferred Torino 22 to Torino 21(I agree completely with your assesment there) but then you had to go and ruin it by poo pooing Reflection man and Bleeker street. Reflection man is a total banger of a fragrance and I have received a number of compliments wearing it. Perhaps BS is not quite on par with Reflection man but it is a solid solid fragrance and has nothing to do with GIT. If anything Chez Bond by Bond No 9 smells like GIT, I think you got confused there. Also Bond No 9 is an excellent niche house, far too overpriced these day(mostly the last couple of years prices sky rocketed) but to my nose is the second best niche house after Creed. Chez Bond may be better than GIT, Governors island is a hidden gem, Bleeker Street is a solid winner, Scent of Peace is also quite good(don't spray too much though) as well as a few others that I haven't gotten round to purchasing yet. I really wanted to agree with you there and you kicked it off with a perfect opening round but then floundered towards the end.
@@SchoolOfScent taste are subjective, the scent isn't that bad... Influencers like yourself will push people away from trying it. I say its one of their more unique ones which makes it stand out from something like greenly sedley and percival
Dropping those based comments in the video like "dont buy into the hype" Got myself Bond No9 New York Nights because it was on a massive sale and kinda the hype around it. I dont regret getting it and do like the scent but def couldve bought something else. Its nice to have but it feels like its gone after 4h which is WILD for the price tag
@@krisjones4051 you probably say that BR 540 because of saffron but a fragrance that have saffron in notes doesn't mean that that fragrance is BR 540. Only similar point is saffron. Also I don't get mint vibes at all. For me, this scent smells like eaucalyptus, saffron and tea vibes with woody facet underneath. On the other hand, Torino 21 is a cliche scent and smells like lemon and mint. Now this scent is redundant in my opinion and nothing can change that. Performance is better also.
@@Faust_9 If you go onto fragrantica there’s dozens of people who compare it to BR540 😂 You cannot come at me and a hundred other perfume heads because we find it strikingly similar. And T22 is like a feminine, milky/oatmilky, minty/eucalyptusy/sagey, night time fragrance.
@@Faust_9 Idk man, in the dry down I definitely get BR540 and dozens of other people on the internet have the same experience. Plus it’s more feminine to my nose so Torino 21 is my go-to. Like a lemony mint tea fragrance.
@@krisjones4051 I don't really like the thought of smelling like lemonade. Especially if it costs 200 euros, it's a pass for me. I'd rather smell like tea with saffron and woodiness. It's more unique way to smell good in my opinion. Also if the style and appeareance is masculine enough, unisex fragrances are better. Smelling unisex is balance things out. My preference is 22
I could not disagree more with you on reflection man. Yeah maybe reflection 45 is better but it’s also triple the price. In 2023 it was far away my favorite fragrance that I owned and I owned about 90 different fragrances. I will say I’m not crazy about it as I was but still a big fan. and it does something different than most summer fragrances considering there’s no citrus or fruit
For now my only niche regret is Aoud Lemon Mint by Mancera. At first I liked it on paper strip and skin so I bought it and summer came and I’ve found out that it was too much for summer for me. Strong synthetic oud and almond followed by candy sweet lemon with more almonds. Too harsh and pungent.
Background looks sick ngl
What i recommend after testing lots of scents.
pdm - herod, layton
Xerjoff - amber star & naxos
Amouage - reflection man.
Tom Ford - oud wood, ombre leather parfum.
Prada - l'homme intense
Bdk - gris charnel extrait
Gucci - intense oud
Mfk - gentle fluidity silver
Escentric molecules - molecule 01
Acqua Di parma - colonia essenza
Instant Crush - most compliments ever received from both women and men throughout the entire evening/night bar hopping in Miami. (Second to JPG Ultra Male). Mesmerising frag after 30-40min harsh beast mode blast. Of the fragrances you mentioned, I love Reflection Man, Baccarat Rouge (both concentrations), and Torino22 (prefer 22 much more to 21)

I have both Reflections and Torino21, and they are two of my favorite go-to scents for the summer.
Great video. I agreed with your sentiment/opinion on all points.
Thankfully I've always thoroughly tested Niche before buying. I got a 5 ml of Instant Crush and had the same thoughts it was very potent Saffron, Vanilla, smoky sugar accord that leaned feminine to me so I didn't feel fully confident wearing it.

Same. That basil note made me hate it. Everything else is awesome about it. If they removed the basil salad note it would be a buy.
Great video Omar, thank you … btw, I would like and recommend an Orto Parisi review. That would be awesome. 🙌
Day 45 of asking Omar to make a Xerjoff buying guide.

Enclave is great fragrance
Damn, Bleecker Street is one of my fave Spring frags. Do try it again as I thought it was boring in my first wear.
Nowadays, designer's fragrances cost almost as much as niche fragrances.

I'll take your Torino21. LOL I like Torino22, but Torino21 is gorgeous for me in the summer.

#2 is Mont Blanc Legend spirit a good daily fragrance for work that would last 9 hours? If not what do you recommend I should use for a daily fresh Summer fragrance that lasts 9+ hours (for a teen )

I regret buying intense caffe by montal (not as good quality as I thought) cedrat boise ( even though its fresh the first hour its cloying from close) aqcua di parma mandorlo di sicilia ( non existent projection) and sadly xerjoff naxos (i don’t reach it much only for special occasions ) and nishane hachivat ( its to generic to my nose ) the fragrances that i mostly enjoy are the ones that are versatile like 40 knots and bois imperial these two are swis army fragrances for me ❤
Sandalwood guide maybe????? 😄
Omar can you recommend a good designer fragrance that is a beast mode to you????
Beast Mode? There’s plenty, the first one that comes to mind is SWY Absolutely
I regretted buying jubilation 25. I tried it 2 different times and I just didn’t like it. Also electimus austere or however it’s spelled.
Omar, torino 21 is so bad. Send it to my way)
I agree with your Bond.9 take. They are basically a creed clone house
Sorry but testing both Xerjoff Torino 21 and Torino 22, Torino 21 is MUCH better than 22. Torino 22 smelled horrible off my skin. On the other hand, Torino 21 is a beautiful scent 🔥👌🏽
I regret buying apple brandy by Kilian, Percival, Layton by parfum de marley, i regret buying Dia by amouage.
No regrets yet :)
Feelin bad for my boy Tonka Cola. Amazing scent! And i use it as my signature scent - I'm 28 y.o. guy, more on a funny and playful side of character. And it works just perfect, on my dates, girls love it)
I also have Amore caffe, and it slaps.
Think you've been pretty kind to Acqua di Parma Sandalo. In simple words, it's an old people sandalwood fragrance.
Did you ever regret Cosmic Pepper? Thats been on my radar recently
Only received a sample, not my style personally but it’s a solid scent!
@@SchoolOfScent fair enough. Might give it a pass then. I'm not keen on rose and oud but always willing to change my mind on something that stands out.
Thanks for the recommendation on Oud Maracuja btw. I got a sample and it's really good in all aspects
Where Xerjoff guide?
Once bought Aqua Di Parma Colonia CLUB thinking I was buying Colonia C.L.U.B. Wish Id done my research at the time as those scents are nothing alike
Fleur de Peau- Diptique- the aldehydes utterly ruin this fragrance and its inherent airy sweatness ends up smelling dilluted and sweaty
Anything by Nishane - just a huge no from me and that whole wretched brand
And I don’t get the hype around any Creed fragrances- there’s never any meaningful depth or that inimitable, often oddly unconventional and even sometimes quirky complexity - we normally associate with the high end, high quality niches- all of that is lacking in the very DNA of Creed - which is so overhyped, overprice and overpriced- it’s become utterly trite and has lost any meaning within the community
With every single one I have tried, been gifted, blindly and naively baught for myself- I’d always think : This is not a finished product.
I really wanted to agree with you there and you kicked it off with a perfect opening round but then floundered towards the end.
how do you actually regret kalan, its literally one of PDM's best....
Most people won’t agree with you, myself included
@@SchoolOfScent taste are subjective, the scent isn't that bad... Influencers like yourself will push people away from trying it. I say its one of their more unique ones which makes it stand out from something like greenly sedley and percival
Dropping those based comments in the video like "dont buy into the hype"
Got myself Bond No9 New York Nights because it was on a massive sale and kinda the hype around it.
I dont regret getting it and do like the scent but def couldve bought something else. Its nice to have but it feels like its gone after 4h which is WILD for the price tag
Nice video
Torino 22 is way better than torino 21. I agree with you
Torino 22 smells like a minty BR540-ultra redundant. T21 is a a beautiful scent that really grows on you, imo.
@@Faust_9 If you go onto fragrantica there’s dozens of people who compare it to BR540 😂
You cannot come at me and a hundred other perfume heads because we find it strikingly similar.
My preference is 22
Xerjoff
first to say first🗣️🗣️
Cmon Omar...Xerjoff buying guide
I could not disagree more with you on reflection man. Yeah maybe reflection 45 is better but it’s also triple the price. In 2023 it was far away my favorite fragrance that I owned and I owned about 90 different fragrances. I will say I’m not crazy about it as I was but still a big fan. and it does something different than most summer fragrances considering there’s no citrus or fruit
ISO 📈📈📈
“I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but Prada l’homme intense…I’m not gonna finish that”- Omar 2023.
27.9% crew 🙂↔️
I regret many in the last few years since they have gone mad silently reformulating, and banning ingredients.
Would love a Xerjoff donation haha
Yeppp don’t fall for the hype. Amore cafe by mancera is a big no for me. Im not saying that it is bad but it just not for me. 😅
Oh...Sandalo, you have broken my heart, Bro. xD
So much more annoying seeing people hate on the xerjoff guy than seeing the xerjoff guy. Stop letting a RUclips comment bother you. Go touch grass
Instant Crush is so loud…I feel like it’s chewing on my skin.
Damn Torino 21 has been on my list for ages. Hmm
Most love it, but it’s not my style
Layton disappointed me with that strong minty vibe. I heard reviewers talking about apple pie vibe and I fell for it.
I agree with Reflection Man, it smells like old lady, Jubilation XXV is way better
Mine is Frank Boclet- Cocaine
Perfumes de Marly - Cassili. Hate it
For now my only niche regret is Aoud Lemon Mint by Mancera. At first I liked it on paper strip and skin so I bought it and summer came and I’ve found out that it was too much for summer for me. Strong synthetic oud and almond followed by candy sweet lemon with more almonds. Too harsh and pungent.
I’ll trade you Nio, for Torino 21, right now. Seriously.
Pickle juice with pencil shavings.😆
