  • In today's episode we have arrived at the paternal home of our gracious host Garima Tiwari in Sonpur village in Durg. Garima is a passionate food blogger who with her stories is on a quest to introduce the world to the unique culinary canvas of Chhattisgarhi cuisine.
On reaching there we were welcomed with a refreshing glass of amaari phool ka sharbat and some fascinating anecdotes about the local food traditions shared by Garima, her father Ravindra Ji and her husband Abhishek. Next we joined caretaker Amrita to make aam ka kucha. Once this spicy and tangy raw mango condiment was ready, Garima served us bassi with an array of accompaniments. The fermented rice dish was indeed yummy.
After this we moved on to the lunch preparation. Green leafy vegetables are a staple over here so Garima prepared some karmatta bhaji with badi. Next were the turn of masoor batkar and rasayan katra rassa, another fascinating curry made of diamond shaped lentil chunks. The curries were served with rice, bada, mirchi, bijauri, chipote tamatar far dhaniya chutney etc. Each and every dish had a distinct flavour of it's own but the most common flavour is many of these dishes was that of garlic. It was a soulful and wholesome meal full of earthy flavours and textures. Every morsel reminded us of the pristine flavours of this beautiful state.
Dessert consisted of a rice flour based sweet called dehraori. It seemed like a closer cousin of gulab jamun but there is no khoya in it. Rice lents it a dense luscious flavour.
Heartfelt gratitude to Garima and her family for this wonderful meal.

Top class!! I am chhattisgarhiya but came from Maharashtra and family settled there! One thing I noticed, in original chhattisgarhi cuisine they make use of every part of plant in some or the other way and create different dishes! Chhattisgarh is all about home food which I love so much! This is by far the best visual experience exploring Chhattisgarhi cuisine!! And the host is so much knowledgeable and heartwarming too!!

Garimaji. Really justified your name in true sense. The passion n precision with which u explained everything, the love, respect n the bond in your family, the discipline, u r really the pride of your family n village. Respect to your father-in-law. I could feel how proud he is to have a daughter-in-law like you. I began watching the vlog as I have grown up in Bhilai did my schooling n post graduation from thr. Its been yrs i have left but seeing Durg with the name of the village I began watching the vlog.Though this video is mainly abt food, i kept on appreciating the beauty n cleanliness of the house n the village, gaon k devta, the temples, beautiful women working in the house, their singing, your lovely little girl, the simplicity, the pride in culture, simple food but prepared with lot of hard work. I felt so many emotions running inside me. I felt proud that I lived in that place once.Thank you for this video.

In TamilNadu its called Palaya Soru. Here, this is likened to Amrut or the food of the gods. Typically eaten with spicy pickles, yesterdays fish curry or dried fish fry, shallots or a coconut thuvailyal. Yum. I am amazed to know that this culture is prevalent throughout my motherland. The host has impressed me with her knowledge, her love towards her tribal culture, hospitality, kindness towards her house help and of course that beautiful handmade neckpiece. She truly represents the Chatisgarh culture. Being an odia especially from a tribal belt I identify a lot with their culture, cuisine and mannerism. Love the outdoor cooking, cleanliness and carefully chosen delicacies. Anubhav ji what a great travel vlogger you are! No wonder people feel comfortable opening up their heart and their home for you. No noisy background music just pure souls interacting, connecting and exchanging knowledge of our ancient traditions. This was truly a great experience for us as a viewer.

In gujarati we call it vagharelo bhat which is like Kept over rice added with Dahi or Chhas and prepared in morning with little sauté with least increments like Little Mirchi, Haldi and green chillies. It tastes amazing!!!
