    What is Multiple Sclerosis ❓
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerves. Signs and symptoms of MS vary widely and depend on the amount of nerve damage and which nerves are affected. Some people with severe MS may lose the ability to walk independently or at all, while others may experience long periods of remission without any new symptoms. There's no cure for multiple sclerosis. However, treatments can help speed recovery from attacks, modify the course of the disease, and manage symptoms.

Hey Seb. In 12 years of MS I have had this happen 1 time. I think I was tired and it was Christmas so was stressful. I made a video about it but I think it is cog fog. Luckily for me it only happened the once and hopefully this will be the same for you. Move on and forget about it, keep away from stress and you will be fine!

Rob Van. Sorry you are going through this. It's the nature of the beast. It's unpredictable. MS stands for Major Stress and More Strength. Take care. I've had MS since 1980.

I read quite a bit, and occasionally after reading for quite awhile , I ‘ll realize I have looked at the words for three or four pages and not realized what any of it meant...I agree I believe it to be MS related perhaps from over tiredness, needing a break from reading.

Personally I think it is MS because I have some crazy weird symptoms too. For example I will got to spell a word and I know the spelling in my head but when I put pen to paper, I put in the wrong letters. It’s like someone has taken over my hand! Or if I read a number plate, it takes a moment to know how to say the letter, even though I’m looking at it and I know it. It’s wired. Stay safe seb x

I had similar situation in 2008... I was reading the sentenses over and over again and could not understannd it. At this moment I connected it to studying a new topic for upcoming work project, readig a lot of pages for several days in a row with lack of any other activities and of course stress, because time was limited... I do not recall similar problems after this, at least as severe as they were back then... however I was diagnosed with MS in 2018... when I connected all previously experienced problems like grey area and pain in one eye in 1996, tingling in legs for several days in 1999, balance and coordination issues in 2009...

So years before my diagnosis, I was in college and having problems reading also. It was so bad that I actually sought therapy because I thought stress from school was having a negative effect on me. My issue was that I'd sit for 5 hours at the library "studying" but I couldn't digest and remember anything I was reading. I would read 3 sentences very carefully and by the time I read my next 3 I had already forgotten what I read before. I tried taking notes, highlighting, post-its, etc to try to jar my brain into working. And it refused. After 5 hours I would still be struggling with 3 pages of text.
Also, as far as toothbrush...when I have very bad brain fog, my brain will not remember where the brake. It knows there are 2 pedals but it doesn't know where to put my foot. The memory disappears. So I'll remember to step on the gas but wherever the memory for brake is it is completely gone. So I have to keep repeating as I am driving or will forget. And obviously when brain fog is at its worst, I can't drive at all. I have a "mild" case of relapsing ms, and it is mostly and frustratingly memory issues. I have to remind myself to be grateful a lot.

Hi Seb. A similar thing happens to me too. One of the most upsetting things to me is how MS has affected my ability to read, at times I feel quite robbed because I adored reading. Sometimes it is like a word scramble. It is hard to understand words sometimes, and as you say even figure out what they mean sometimes. And I find it comes and goes too. I have found that I sometimes, just for a minute or two, that I cant figure out how to spell something, or what the word means, or how to put it all together, or how something I have used many times works (you described the switch, I remember this happening to me with a seat belt!!). I find this is worse when I am tired or unwell, but I did go through this for a long period, I couldnt add, work out simple puzzles, etc and my neuro tested me, I was having a small relapse and I got some steroids. It is always best to discuss with your neuro, it may be nothing, but could be something. Good luck

☼ difficult to comment on, but i didnt want to say nothing. You are more the expert. And you can reach your specialists remotely? New Tele-Medicine Consult billing codes just got released for the pandemic. If you have coverage, people are eager to use them.
Kind of anything can be MS, right? Just dont forget, you can also have the regular things - TIAs/stroke, ect. Also, in these times anything can be psychogenic or anxiety too. Or stress can induce MS attacks; all things you know, of course.
So young and w/a Dx already, the instinct is to say MS attack. Especially if it passes. is the headache normal? Tele-call someone, Id say. Especially if it persists and is weird. Things can be warnings pre incidents - but one incident possibility is MS: and that part of scary Dx is over! Everything else requires an exam. Hang in their man. If you have a psychiatrist you trust, they have decent neuro training too.
If it continues of course, it will require an exam. At least the hospitals are empty and non-emergent things cancelled. Just wear a mask+goggles and dont touch anything. Go to a stand alone clinic for imaging rather than a big hospital if you have to (& can). Have auto call, and test read set up already if you can (and dont already.)
best ive got. hope it was worth the read. i hope you get more informative posts than this.

Thank you so much for your input, Jai! You are so right that in these times many of the symptoms can be psychosomatic. It's definitely a time where I don't want to be needing medical consultations and that anxiety itself causes me to have symptoms. Haha.

Similar happens to me from time to time, it is very difficult and upsetting. It is like I just can't figure out the words and things just jumble together. Or I just go blank on what buttons to press so as to do something I usually do everyday. I assume it is the MS and when I've mentioned it to Doctor they have just said yes it is probably MS related.

Had similar, to me the symptoms have been related to MS. However they have also reversible with clemastine 5-10 mg a day but they for me were also a warning sign that I was pushing myself to hard brainwise. Not allowing for brain recuperation so I had to both rest my brain, do meditation, get plenty of magnesium and omega 3 and clemastine and be prepared to disconnect, stop pushing ( easier Said than Done). However the symptoms are also similar to other stuff so I would try to talk to a doctor as well. Thing is for me my ms, brainfog including weird symptoms like these and my migraine are part of the same parcel. You might have something else going on which triggers this due to hey, not same body.

hi i hope you are well what you discribe the visual things sounds like a seizure it is common to have seizures with ms and being an epileptic i know a few things about seizure types i do not want to alarm you but here is a list that is common with a simple partial seizure being inattentive but still able to follow commands
changes in vision (often one side or the other)
difficulty speaking or not speaking for some time
feeling as if the skin is crawling (often affecting one side or the other)
numbness or tingling on one side of the body (whether the whole side or just part)
    sweating or feeling anxious
decreased movement on one side of the body (whether the whole side or just part)
unusual eye movements, such as the eyes moving side to side quickly or gaze fixated in one direction

So weird - a topic covered today in my "daily MS News Today" email that I received was "I could see words on the page as sure as you can see words now while reading this. Yet I comprehended nothing. It was as if the text had been translated overnight into a foreign language. I could see the symbols strewn together as words or sentences- shapes I could still discern - but the words themselves were meaningless to me. Welcome to aphasia - an inability to comprehend or formulate language" Does this describe it at all? Try checking out Aphasia...first time I have it described so well-

Occasionally forget how to do something I have done a million times! kind of like the toothbrush thing! Or I know where something is but temporarily forget! if I just don't force through it and let it come to me then it pops into my head. Same thing with remembering someone's name. Not sure if it is Cog Fog/MS or I am just getting old ;-0 I had a full psych analysis last fall and they could detect a bit more short term memory issues than typical for my age but I found the process oddly reassuring to know that MS hasn't taken a complete wrecking ball through my brain...I'm still pretty much average and in some areas still above average. So - just don't stress, now when I do something or can't remember something that is odd I just shake my head and continue on ;-)

    • @LifeofSebMS
      @LifeofSebMS  4 года назад

That would definitely be the kinder approach. Don't pressure yourself to do something that your brain is obviously not digesting well. It's like you're not going to be stuffing yourself with a food that is messing up your stomach!

@@LifeofSebMS I often feel when I remove the pressure of remembering the thought/word/memory comes to me unbidden...my mind was still working on it...just needed more time ;-) Sometimes I just write a note on a post-it to think back on the topic later and there it is ;-)
