I have 2 hondas both newer (2008 Pilot and 2014 Accord) and neither of them have that problem. It's entirely possible that this was a pre-production model.
fantastic show. Love BC. i been listening to him since the early cnet day of cnet radio. the first real push type podcast before we all knew what a podcast was. again great info here and i hope they keep the good shows comming
Totally miss full episodes. he's awesome. and always wondering why they haven't put up more episodes. You still always look forward to watching one of these episodes of once a week. Sometimes you don't want to keep on clicking on one minute videos.
The performance data recorder in the corvette does work as an actual dash cam. It's automatic too when the car starts. A popular example is a valet who got fired when the owner reviewed the footage of his car being driven very aggressively in the garage.
Love how the whole center console flexes when he presses the EV mode button. Gotta love that cost cutting... err, I mean "advanced weight saving composites". Except it's still almost 3,600 lbs, so not particularly lightweight either. 😂
How is the Accord hybrid system different to the Prius? The one car that it should've been compared to was left out. The Prius also has an eCVT and two electric motors with no transmission in the traditional sense..
@@Ytytfytfujbyddutrxrt The Honda does not use a planetary gear to combine the power from the ICE and electric engine. It is a true serial hybrid where the Toyota e-CVT is more of a parallel hybrid setup. Honda has apparently been able to obtain the same or better fuel efficiency with a considerable simpler setup. Also the Honda engineers have dimensioned the electric generator and motor much stronger than Toyota which should avoid the revving engine whine effect that Toyota hybrids are known for when driving fast. Also the direct drive lockup is a great way of obtaining best fuel efficiency when cruising on the high-way.
I love that Honda hybrid setup, the "direct drive nature" of it makes it so much more responsive than anything from Toyota. But one thing I would really love to see is that drive train strapped into a fit or an s660 (this one would need some serious modding). with both of those cars get their driving feeling from directness and this power train could supply that with an bunch of extra torque (what makes cars like that feel fast) with out adding a ton of displacement (which can be an issue in some countries). Plus it might allow Honda to give a bloody nose to the Fiesta ST or the Audi TT, and who doesn't want to see that?
I think Brian, the third mode that is hybrid not hybrid mode is actually the same with range extender vehicle... So you can call this new hybrid Accord an advance range extender vehicle
So, does the engine on the Accord mate up to the drivetrain at highway speeds for a kind of direct drive? Is that what that clutch looking thing is at the top of the diagram?
The Accord Hybrid powertrain isn't really new. Just nobody really does it. In fact the idea is identical to that of any Amtrak, CSX or Union Pacific locomotive; an engine turning a generator that converts to electric back to a motor that drives the wheels.
I have one of these 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring, I have had non stop issues for the last year and a half. My hybrid system is not working at highway speeds. I am getting 28 miles per gallon on the highway and my dealership can't find the problem. Also I was asked to to change my transmission fluid at 30,000 miles. If the car does not have a transmission then why did they try to sell me the service. I didn't do it because I want the MPG issue addressed first but is there a transmission and does it require fluid change? I can't find anything in the owners guide.
Where I live, it's fairly simple to merge on highways and interstates. The person who wants to merge simply changes lanes without signaling or looking. So if you're the victim of that situation (me!), perform an emergency swerve and nearly have a heart attack in the process. Merging simplified!
Forgot one on self drivers: at a four way stop vehicles turning left must yield to the person across from them going straight. I've been flipped off and cussed out for doing it right.
does Honda license Toyota hybrid technology? The way it works is so similar to Toyota 3rd gen Hybrid Synergy Drive that available commonly on Highlander hybrid, Lexus RX hybrid, the new Rav4 hybrid and some older Prius....
What is the traditional battery under the hood for if there is already a big one in the trunk? Do you still have to change it every x years for the car to start like with regular vehicles?
All electric cars are this way. The old school 12V system is mandated by law for all non-engine systems, completely segregated. Ensures first responders won't get fried by the high output batteries in the event they have to saw your car open to save you in an accident.
I leave a space between myself and the car in front,to avoid rear ending them when they suddenly brake for no reason.Self driving cars are good for distracted drivers, someone who has no skill, and basically someone who can't pass a driving test.
That's an interesting design but I've had that idea with no internal combustion engine, but I guess that's about as far as the oil industry will allow to do away with gasoline
I don't understand why they're making a big deal out of this now. The 2015 Accord Hybrid has one engine, two motors, and an e-cvt and works just about the same.
$30,000 for a base Hybrid Accord? What a joke. Why can't they do an all electric EV? At least this is one small step in the right direction. I am getting the Tesla Model 3 for the base price of $35,000 and will hopefully get the state and federal credit for EV.
That hybrid tech is exactly how Toyota hybrids have always worked. eCVT is nothing new and it fits perfectly into prius c which is smaller than a civic.
hybrids have been around since 1998 or 2000 in the u.s. there reliably regularly beats non hybrid cars, of course there are exceptions but that is the general rule
I nearly fell over when Cooley put on the paper bag. I actually believed there was very important use for it lol
The street session is just super amazing. Real life examples with real life commentary. CNET and Cooley any day.
EASILY one of my top 5 episodes. Best explanation of a VTEC I've ever seen. Well done Cooley.
3:44 - 3:47 watch how plastic moves when he pushes a knob, add some nice sound and this is that nice feeling of a great quality :)
Was really surprised to see that, it's even worse when he presses the sport button
Haha i was gonna post the same thing! Looked like the damn thing was gonna snap into pieces! #CHEAP
I was about to comment the same thing. I don't understand how manufacturers overlook things like that.
I have 2 hondas both newer (2008 Pilot and 2014 Accord) and neither of them have that problem. It's entirely possible that this was a pre-production model.
I am late. They all have cheap spots.
Newer Hondas have such a subtle yet eye pleasing design
They've gotten a lot better over the years they used to be hideous. And their design is 10000x better then Toyota's new design language
I'm loving my 2016 Accord Ex-L. Drives very well and precise. Brakes are very good.
I think the price is what's going to drive my decision, but I agree that the Honda actually looks cool, while some other hybrids are ugly af.
GhenghisKhangai better than Acura design
*tireable
20:12 Best c|net moment along with "ugly is included at no extra cost".
Haha right! I couldn't stop laughing
i now understand vtec
THIS SHOW NEEDS TO BE MORE OFTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would ruin the quality of the content
The top 5 on this episode was amazing!!! Thank you so much!!!
Fantastic episode. One of the best ones yet.
Great show. Very informative breakdowns on everything.
Thank you for the long format video and Cooley

Been waiting for this for a while!!
As always very informative...
The rust paintjob guy gets trolled hard by Cooley.
Great episode Brian! Keep it up!
Good episode as usual.
Best "show" on Cnet really... with Brian of course.
Loved this episode. Cooley is the best.
The performance data recorder in the corvette does work as an actual dash cam. It's automatic too when the car starts. A popular example is a valet who got fired when the owner reviewed the footage of his car being driven very aggressively in the garage.
I have to say it: V-TEC kicked in yo!!!!
100% Cooley. Great segment on self driving cars. Funny and insightful.
I drive the 2014 accord hybrid and love it. Only negative I don't like is the noise it makes when the generator kicks in.
Love how the whole center console flexes when he presses the EV mode button. Gotta love that cost cutting... err, I mean "advanced weight saving composites". Except it's still almost 3,600 lbs, so not particularly lightweight either. 😂
Thank god he is back!
Love this show...MORE EPISODES!
Love it when the vtec in my 2005 focus kicks on !
the VTEC STUFF is awesome..thanks

This is better than 90%+ of TV
3:46, the whole shifter console goes in when you try to hit the sport button. Great job there Honda.
Brian. I'm a big fan of yours. Eagerly waiting for your Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe Review. Expecting more videos from you.
LOVE THE PAPER BAG GREAT GAG
I passed out laughing when he put that paper bag on his head😂
5 years on I love my 2017 accord hybrid.
i always love your video

wow I am an eight year old kid this Honda accord hybrid 2017 is awesome
love the DYC shout out
first time I've heard a car model this millennium without the twenty in front of it....it begins
VTEC Kickin Yooooo
Nice watch Brian Cooley.
Brian is my favorite video guy.
So, does the engine on the Accord mate up to the drivetrain at highway speeds for a kind of direct drive? Is that what that clutch looking thing is at the top of the diagram?
Garden variety shifters are the absolute best variety.
Lol he wore that paper bag on his head during the merc g-wagon review too
Hey Cooley you're back it's been a while. what happened to the autocomplete full episode's?
There was a lot of mistakes in this video and unfortunately he is making everyone dumber.
Aziz Mehmet they are podcasts so use an app
i love my 2015 honda accord hybrid , im averaging 50 mpg combine
keeping space in traffic is to avoid non existent stop signs on the free way
The Accord Hybrid powertrain isn't really new. Just nobody really does it. In fact the idea is identical to that of any Amtrak, CSX or Union Pacific locomotive; an engine turning a generator that converts to electric back to a motor that drives the wheels.
At what road speed does the engine clutch engage and drive the wheels?

Yes, but how soon the paint will fall off that new accord hybrid?
when will see the hybrid coupe
is it only 2016 and newer that have this? also what other cars that have something liek this or similar to self driving?
Forgot one on self drivers: at a four way stop vehicles turning left must yield to the person across from them going straight. I've been flipped off and cussed out for doing it right.

Man, I missed Cooley
I leave a space between myself and the car in front,to avoid rear ending them when they suddenly brake for no reason.Self driving cars are good for distracted drivers, someone who has no skill, and basically someone who can't pass a driving test.
I would gladly see the day that cars get rid of geared transmissions. They are the source for me getting rid of the 3 out of 6 cars I've owned.
ICE are so inefficient, that's where I appreciate the effeciency of electric cars, but damn those ICE cars just sound so good
I'm curios to which make and models people feel have very easy tech to operate? I'd like something simple.
Mr. Koenigsegg influencing the automotive world, no?
Hmmm. My '04 Civic Hybrid MT still regularly gets 51mpg, 49mpg is pretty impressive for such a tank of a car.
17:40 Roger should watch mighty car mods how to paint your car. I did mine and it turned out to be very good.
Great
#5, defensive driving teaches to leave a car length in front for options in case something happens behind you
What the name of that song at the beginning
But why this video is age restricted
This new Honda car and Tesla model S is my dream car.
The accord is a mid-sized sedan, not a full-size.
That's an interesting design but I've had that idea with no internal combustion engine, but I guess that's about as far as the oil industry will allow to do away with gasoline

Nice episode. 3:46 Accord got some cheap plastics !!
+Juan Suarez or a used BMW for less than 20
Go see the shitty Camry then come talk about the Accord!
***** At least they can fix the wobbliness !!
u talk like a kid that doesn't even own a car.
***** Kinda !!
the prius also uses the same kinda no tranmission stuff but people dont care whenabout a prius
Incognito mode.. Hilarious
"I don't know what this is doing in here, my wife's been using the car"

i wish i could get the 2017 but my budget is telling me 1999 civic , one day though
it is drive how everyone drives Porsche 911s and McLarens in traffic, just like in GTA
Imagine if they put that hybrid tech in the civic. If it can fit
That hybrid tech is exactly how Toyota hybrids have always worked. eCVT is nothing new and it fits perfectly into prius c which is smaller than a civic.
when we hit the brake the cars engine stops and the engine off's
my father has the new Honda pilot 2018 and a Lamborghini Diablo 2019
Love you Brian, but there is no Altima hybrid it died back in 2012
that's why they used an older picture for it.
Brian should do more normal car reviews as he does before Car Tech became Roadshow, not just limiting all his video reviews to On Cars.
Brian is funny !
Vtec just kicked in yo
Sounds interesting but what will happen will all that tech at 150k miles? Also "Joe" at the local shop is not going to be able service the car.
hybrids have been around since 1998 or 2000 in the u.s. there reliably regularly beats non hybrid cars, of course there are exceptions but that is the general rule
why does this has parental restriction??
New citroën C3 has an integrated dashcam
So it's like a Chevy Volt but without the 50+ miles of electric only driving?
Damn 212 hp? The normal accords make 185
278hp with the V6... the way this car is meant to be.
+oldtwins yeah, to you
He made a mistake. 212HP is for electric motor. Gas engine is only 143HP.
212 HP is for both gas and electric working concurrently/together.
I thought this was a midsize sedan and not a fullsize?
Autonomous cars could mean no stopping at intersections, forget blocking.
An accord hybrid that doesn't look like a dorky hybrid.
