- Sarah and Maurice Patterson own and operate MMP Environmental Solutions, a waste-management company in Connecticut. Maurice walks us through how he cleans a year’s worth of oil, grease, fat, and residual food from a Mediterranean restaurant’s grease trap. He recommends that typical commercial grease traps be cleaned every three months to prevent pipe clogs, sewer damage, and fines from the local water authority.

In case you dont know/didnt say in video: oil does not go down the drain. Some places offer "old-oil-bring-in-stations" to...literally bring in your old eg cooking oil. Otherwise use a paper towel to get rid of exess oil on pans etc before washing.
It kills your drains and is horrible for the environment (so same goes for oil-based body scrubs etc)
"fatbergs" are made up of mostly oil and baby wipes, google it if you don't know what it is, it's vile but interesting
Powerwashing is the most satisfying thing ever
I was thinking the same thing. It's a job where you can see the results of your efforts. This job must be very satisfying.
What do you mean satisfying.
Right next to sandblasting
watch Markiplier play Power washing simulator
yeah if you're not the one doing it
I respect you doing this job. Thanks for what you do to make our world better.
What people don't realize is this is very important work. It stops plumbing problems and fires. 📡👽🇺🇸 RUN!!! Great job. 😁🧙♂️🛸
I sort of wish I hadn’t decided to watch this just after lunch but nonetheless - always interesting to watch how something is done professionally.
Most grease trap cleaner only spray clean the trap never lay hands inside the trap, these guys clean the trap inside out with hands and tools, respect.
This is so nasty but yet so satisfying at the same time
Thank you for the update, Insider..!! I always thought restaurant oil residues just went down the drain.
Thank you to the workers who keep the world running who do jobs like this. Not everyone could do a job like this. I bet it stinks and I bet you go home greasy and smelling it. Not everyone would have the stomach for it.
This was so interesting. Thank you so much for sharing this. It is discusting but very interesting.
*Wishing everyone the best sleep of their life after having seen this relaxing video!*
🥰🥰🥰
a "fatberg" is when liquified grease and similar chemicals are flushed into a sewer system and clump together and can weigh up to 90 TONS as was discovered in the sewer system in Liverpool England
And let's not forget all the wet wipes that are in these fatbergs!
i just love watching this kind of videos
Why did I find that so satisfying to look at?
Grease trap smell is up there with the worst smells. Thankfully I've only had to pump them twice
Nice.... this is amazing 👏🏿
He did a great job 👍
Hansele, stimmt !
Excellent video to watch while eating.
Awesome job! 👌
I should’ve finished my breakfast before i clicked.
Just did one and definitely had a respirator on!
Very interesting information! I'd say most people aren't aware of how vital this service is and how cooking grease is actually " trapped". Thanks!
Good hardworking productive young man 👍👍
Okay, I would NEVER eat from a restaurant with this much grease, but the sad thing is, most restaurants are super dirty in the kitchen - we just don't see it...
That's most restaurants. Chinese are the worst.
Great video, thanks. Can you recommend a vendor in Baltimore, MD?
I'm just thankful i don't have to do this or work in catering. I don't know how the grease-catcher works, but i know how a grease-monkey feels.
Otherwise any work is good, i just joined the big resignation for now.
CLEAN EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yum
what chemicle should we use to clean it well
I'm a nurse and the smell is enough to gag a maggot. It's a tie with burping a colostomy bag for the worst smell.
And one day if you do it long enough, you'll be so hardcore that you'll able to clean that grease out while snacking on a piece of pizza.
I know because I had to clean sink traps once a week and eventually, you just get desensitized to it
why did you stop and what is the average pay for small traps?
What soap or solution /degrease brand u recommend?
Would love to know how they treat the grease collected afterwards. I love this kind of satisfying cleaning vid, but always wonder the next step.. after a problem has been handed over to the next party.. what's next
Exactly lol
The oil is filtered from the grease. The oil goes into a large bin that gets picked up and recycled. The remaining bits (food, dirt, etc) gets thrown away. I worked at a large stadium and cleaned our fryers every week.
cool
I understand my Asian family now why they wash dishes by hand
this reminds me of that one spongebob episode
Imagine the calorie amount of that amount of fat and stuff in that grease
I can’t believe I watched this entire video.
beutiful
i just saw a video by drain pros and they didn't even have the courtesy to clean the grease trap, i mean i know it may seem like a redundancy after doing this enough but the customer will feel way better about the price you charged, i suppose it could be separately charged but is like cleaning your toilet but only the seat because it will get shitty again
It is also worth to mention that the smell is almost unbearable.
These people are the lifesavers of restaurants. People don’t understand
They really don't understand how crucial techs are to the restaurant business
How much do you get paid???
Start a fire if you want to get rid of grease faster!
Not many places accept grease. Dang. I wonder if they didnt mention using degreasers because its a obcious step taken or of the grease in the greas trappers is trapped in state that is consistently warm enough to just blast, vacuum, and scrub up without the need of degreasers
That's why I avoid eating out at all costs.
Greece from Mediterranean...
Damm...what standards do you have in USA? :D :D Grease-trap should be cleaned once every 3 months? :D :D I've been working in few restaurants in the past. Grease-traps and kitchen canopies were cleaned every week...
3 months at the LATEST
I can already imagine the horrible smell
I just love it when i get a notification … has subscribed to you or … has liked ur comment 💜
Like attention much?
My local grease trap guy they just suck them, spray them with water and done lol. I never seen him bother scrubbing it like that
How do I get a job in this or open my own small business in this
Money
I need someone to clean my grease trap
I dry heaved watching this video and I could not even smell it
"I'm in waste managment"
Yeah it's getting pretty greasy in here.
Omg that's so gross
Gross
But fascinating
The smell.. oh god I can't even describe... 🤢🤢🤢🤢

This is the stuff coating your arteries when you eat at these places.
Imagine if u take a sip from that
Anyone else think this video looked gross when they sucked out the grease? 🤮
Arrgh! Ma retirement grease!
I have to clean grease traps almost once a week and yes the smell can make you physically sick. Stay in school kids, don’t want to be cleaning grease traps for the rest of your life its foul and no human should have to do it
He's making a great living.
Someone's gotta do it, same as plumbers. The job can pay really well because no one else is going to the dirty work. Why else do plumbers charge $100+/hr? They absolutely deserve the paycheck.
interesting, but the guys mic is peaking like crazy and hurting my ears
MY RETIREMENT GREASE!!!!!!! NOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Satisfied Gordon Ramsay Face* : )
That’s so gross that restaurant owners wait a full year to have their fryers cleaned 🤢
thats not a fryer
That's an oil trap, you don't cook food in it
Sell it to China.
Chinese food tastes good because of this.
first
I did this job before
Pays good. Smells terrible
that's the guts of a gluttonous mukbang youtuber.
Just watching that made me feel like I need another tetanus shot
That is completely disgusting an vile filth. I would never eat in that gross dump
if you're a customer you'll never even see the grease trap because it's only used in washing the dishes.
It would smell like death when they pumped the meat departments grease trap out at the grocery store I use to work at.
1 year is waiting way to long.
When will RUclips have smellavision ?
*me watching this while eating *
This is what I smell when I walk by a Popeyes, KFC 🤢
When I worked at a steak house we cleaned the fryer out twice a week. I wouldn't want to eat at that restaurant🤣🤣
this isn't a fryer, it's a grease trap that is used to keep oil and stuff out of the plumbing when cleaning dishes.
3:50 I hope they wear masks that can deoderise the air
Dirty job no wander they can charge lots of money to clean them oh wow
*GASP* MY RETIREMENT GREASE! NOOOOOOOO!!!!
Nasty omg yuk
That looks quite gross if you ask me.
This makes me wanna throw up
Stinky job that has to get done. Takes some kahunas to come home smelling like that.
Sell it to the chinese!
Willy's retirement fund
Going Vegan!
This looks disgusting bit trust me.... it SMELLS 10000X worse.
Having spent many hours with my face in grease traps including 9000 liter ones from a slaughterhouse, it is certainly a funky smell. However my new job has me experience a new level of funky. That being working in a pet crematorium in which we also cremate horses.
Having a horse "explode" on you after it has been laying dead in the summer heat in a ditch for a couple of days makes a grease trap smell like christmas and freshly mowed grass in one.
Stay in school kids.
No thanks. Necessary but sh*t job.
Wow thank you Insider???! How about Canada 🍁 harming it’s citizens?! Report on that! Truckers for freedom!!
oh boy, they've infiltrated unrelated youtube comments. what won't they do.
In China they’d take that slop and cook your dinner with it
