I'm from Indonesia. The live broadcast on TV was stopped when the riots took place. We didn't understand what's going on. The next day we finally found out, after reading the newspaper.
Wow, reading these comments I understand how ignorant the majority of people is. This is THE most infamous night in the history of football. Yes, other tragedies carried away more victims, but this one was on the biggest stage. THIRTY-NINE PEOPLE DIED THAT NIGHT. The game was played JUST for security purposes. Liverpool FC NEVER complained about that penalty for the past 33 years, and for good reason. All those talking about match fixing, well, I'll just leave it at "improve your knowledge before throwing shit out of your shithole". And try and show some respect to those who died young and horribly just for attending the wrong game.
Yes the match was fixed...there was no way Liverpool was walking off that pitch that night with the cup. It was Juve cup before kick off. And yes the game should have been postponed to another date and location.
agreed with you. Platini after the penalty looked in the direction of the "Z" infamous sector and showed the fist. Of course nobody could know the dimension of the tragedy that night but they all knew that people died. The worst night in European football probably. Never to be forgotten. But life goes on. I was 15 in 1985
Why was such a massive game played at a stadium not fit for purpose? Juventus and Liverpool supporters divided by flimsy fencing.. Heysel stadium was falling apart.. English clubs were dominating European competitions and Uefa did not like it... Why was every English club banned from European football and not just Liverpool fc? If anyone is to be blamed, the finger should be pointed at uefa for murder in my eyes..
Liverpool asked for the match not to take place at Heysel as the ground was falling apart but UEFA didn't care. UEFA are the main calprates here. Also people do not talk about how liverpool fans were attacked and stabbed by Roma Ultras the year before. Thatcher was also the one who got Liverpool banned not UEFA as she hated Liverpool council. Do you wanted some facts here you go.
Assassins Liverpool supporters never paid for their awful crimes not one person went to jail, but God is great and has a way to make you pay for your sins or maybe did already
What a disgrace! Both teams knew what happened. And still the game was on. The team cheering, especially Platini. And the fans of Juve back home. They knew that 39 people were dead. Thanks to great organisation, stadium and Liverpool fans.
Actualy the players didnt knew how bad it was, if it comes to the dead people. Atleast how I understood it by a Juve player, who explained that they were completly untold of the situation outside and that they were in their rooms the whole time. When they steped outside I dont know if they had seen the dead bodies laying around.
Don’t think you know the full facts. Both teams had concerns over the sercurity of the stadium. Liverpool asked UEFA to move it cause of UEFA decision to mix the fans. UEFA ignored this even when Juve said don’t mix the supporters. Also one of the Juve supporters at the time could clearly be seen with a gun and later on found to be a airgun, who brings a gun to a football game. Yes sad but why mix the fans when even Juve stated they had some of the worst fans for starting trouble at the time of the final but again UEFA ignored this. Not right but the year before Liverpool played Roma in Italy and Liverpool fans got attacked with knives even young children, reported but again nothing was done. Later on UEFA stated that no matter what the score was Juve we’re always going to get the trophy. Even if Liverpool had won it they had made there minds up Liverpool was not going to be given the trophy on the night of the game, so why even play it if that was the case.

Can you believe that this is actually the first time I see part of this match? (That I am not english or Italian but Dutch probably explains it a bit.) I was 13 when this was played. Liverpool was my favorite, simply because of the Pink Floyd song Fearless, even though this song was not really about Liverpool. As far as I remember the only full football match I had ever seen was the 1982 world cup final, and of course (?) I had heard of Platini. My father said I could watch the game if I would go to bed immediately afterwards, but after watching fighting supporters for half an hour my parents sent me to bed anyway. Fortunately I saw many great football matches with great supporters since...
LOL. I was 8 and the exact same thing happened to me. My parents sent me to bed because the fighting was not stopping and it looked like the match would never happen.
Tristan Weijermars Was 13 too, but watched it at a friends’ house (his parents were out). Saw the whole thing. What you see on this video makes it look like a better game than it was, when it was a TERRIBLE match...not purely in football terms. No. It was terrible because of the events beforehand. The whole atmosphere felt wrong, and this was before there had been any confirmation of any deaths. Watching all of that as a 13 year old, I couldn’t really say why it felt so bad, of course I was no stranger to trouble at football because my team was in the first division (long before it was changed to the Premier League) and I saw trouble most weeks. But my friend and I just knew something worse than normal had occurred. We got an overwhelming feeling that the match didn’t matter. And as a football crazy kid that was a very weird feeling to have. I spoke to a man who was there he was a juventus fan. He said ultras started throwing things at liverpool fans. Liverpool fans charged and innocent juventus fans got trapped when the wall collapsed. The majority of ultras managed to avoid the disaster. So sad. To loose precious life at a football game.
Nah, the Juve Ultras were placed not right next to the Liverpool fans. This block Z was planed as a neutral block for people from Brüssel, but someone made a few milion by selling it to a Italian traveling agency (hope this term is the right one) Anyways, italian families used the chance to get those tickets and to see the final. The whole stadium was completly in need of a rebuild, the police force was way to low, the head of the police didnt even had anything to stay in contact with his forces and those italian families and Juve supporters were only seperated by a super small fence. No one from those Juve fans provoked any of the Liverpool Ultras. They wanted some kind of revenge as I heard it (for what idk) It took them about 10 minutes to destroy the fences and then a huge margin of the Liverpool supporters charged in to the direction of the block Z and the italians tried to get away and charged in to the direction of the brick wall that later collapsed. (watch videos how much of the Liverpool people charged at them. This was huge) Some of the Liverpool supporters had knives, guns a beating irons so I am not even sure how things would have went, if the Juve Ultras would have been placed near by.

I remember watching this at home, my older cousins went but my parents refused. As a Liverpool fan I was 13 years old. I remember later seeing that both teams had concerns over the safety and had asked UEFA to move it cause UEFA had this crazy idea of mixing the fans. At the time Italy had some of the worst fan trouble and even Juve asked for it to be moved but UEFA ignored it. Liverpool had asked on the grounds that the previous year we had played Roma in Italy and a lot of Liverpool fans had been attacked young children stabbed but UEFA ignored there request. UEFA later stated that Liverpool was not to get the trophy no matter what the score was on the night, so why even play it. Am not in any why saying Liverpool fans were innocent but I think it was pay back for the previous year against Roma and it went to far that caused the death of so many fans. Even today with teams that have a massive fan base UEFA still insist on playing big finals in small grounds. They should pick 2 or 3 stadiums and who ever gets the final then pick the stadium. England, France, Germany, Spain or Italy if 2 of the teams reach the final could easily fill 100,000 seated stadium but no UEFA would pick a 45 or 50 thousand stadium, it’s madness.
I remember watching the match. The kick off was delayed significantly because of the tragedy. Players must have at very least heard the ambulance sirens and yet Platini still celebrates his goal as if nothing had happened.
Without the prematch tragedy, quite probably Liverpool would have won. For in this era no team could match LFC, without underestimating the well assorted Juventus side. In fact in the 70s and 80s only 1 team outclassed LFC. It was Flamengo led by Zico. They handled LFC 3-0 in what is today Coupe du monde des clubs.

Tragedy outside the field...tragedy inside the field...Boniek was trip outside the box...penalty is given...Rush was trip inside the box...no penalty given...as l remembered on that day...😢
First of all the match should have never be played that night(choose another day another location). Second Liverpool (the team) was punished for what the fans did with that penalty that never existed. Liverpool should have had another cup.
Based on what evidence? Juventus played better on the night and Liverpool stole the '84 final with their goalkeeper cheating during the penalties against Roma by repeatedly coming off his line. There was no-one better than Platini or Boniek in that Liverpool team.
This game became a farce (a non existent penalty deciding the final)…influenced by the pre-match tragedy. the right thing to do should have been to cancel this final.
So Juventus won two European Champion Cups. In 1985, when the match should not have been played after the disaster, they won with a very dubious penalty. In 1996 they only won on penalties with a team that later came under the heavy (but (admittedly) never formally confirmed) suspicion of doping. Last year they were so desperate to have European success that they forked out no less than 117 million euro (!) for ONE player (Ronaldo), and even didn't prevent losing against a club with a TOTAL CLUB BUDGET less than that (Ajax, getting some revenge for 1996). Juventus may be the most successful club in the Italian competition (certainly in the last decade), but I don't think I will ever like them.
"when the match should not have been played after the disaster" The game was played to prevent further riots from the Liverpool fans at the fear of more death... Juventus lost 32 fans that day and you dislike them for winning?? Surely playing and WINNING against an amazing (and violent) opposition during such a tragedy for them is probably showing the most deserved Euro cup win in all of history.

27 were confirmed dead at Kick off dozens more injured , game was played for safety reasons , otherwise that would start a riot - youngest was just 11 years old ,Italian , Belgian & 1 from Northern Ireland
Tristan Weijermars
Was 13 too, but watched it at a friends’ house (his parents were out).
Fucking horrible night.

Hundreds of policemen all around the pitch perimeter, hooligans fighting against police in the stands of the stadium. Surreal, terrible atmosphere. Players of both teams were forced to play the game and were not informed about any deaths, especially Juventus players, Italian players about Italian people who died and were dying during those hours.
This block Z was planed as a neutral block for people from Brüssel, but someone made a few milion by selling it to a Italian traveling agency (hope this term is the right one)
Anyways, italian families used the chance to get those tickets and to see the final.
The whole stadium was completly in need of a rebuild, the police force was way to low, the head of the police didnt even had anything to stay in contact with his forces and those italian families and Juve supporters were only seperated by a super small fence.
No one from those Juve fans provoked any of the Liverpool Ultras.
They wanted some kind of revenge as I heard it (for what idk)
It took them about 10 minutes to destroy the fences and then a huge margin of the Liverpool supporters charged in to the direction of the block Z and the italians tried to get away and charged in to the direction of the brick wall that later collapsed. (watch videos how much of the Liverpool people charged at them. This was huge)
Some of the Liverpool supporters had knives, guns a beating irons so I am not even sure how things would have went, if the Juve Ultras would have been placed near by.

Some people are really disgusting. Guys, that night 39 people died watching a football game and you are complaining about a penalty?
The stadium was awful , its like holding F1 races on the M25
This game could easily have been moved to the Parc de Princes which held the Euro84 final the previous year
I remember watching this .. and I remember exactly what I saw - unedited + without excuses.
Without the prematch tragedy, quite probably Liverpool would have won. For in this era no team could match LFC, without underestimating the well assorted Juventus side. Was inspired from Liverpool Scousers' actions of murdering 39 Juventus fans you disgusting POS!
I think the situation leads to penalty inconnect , this is a free kick , not penalty
That was not even a penalty,, by a long margin !
The match that should never been played.
That was never a penalty outside the box clearly

The doping is a bullahit, the match was played. Stop. In 1997 the offside of Mijatovic, in 2015 the penalty for the contact Pogba - Dani Alves...
@@antoniocelio95 PROVATO L'ILLECITO - In pratica è stata ritenuta provata l'illecita somministrazione di farmaci ai calciatori della Juventus,Juve, prescritti i reati di doping

Today they stop a game if someone in the stands has bad indigestion- but they played this game with a riot going on and dead bodies piled up in the car park.
I don't think it was a penalty. But to speak about match fixing is another thing. Juventus deserved to win as Liverpool did not manage a single decent shot at goal.
Joe Fenech that’s a load of bullshit , they only scored themselves because they got a dodgy pen
game should never have been played, uefa should be ashamed, game was poor, who cares if it was not a penalty that match should be down as a void in the record books.
