Space Marine 2 is a perfect example of a game that has diversity without it feeling forced, shoehorned, or giving that awkward feeling Asmon talked about, where you can tell the game was made by Millennial losers. Manages to have testosterone that feels correct for the 40k universe. Honestly they did a great job. My only gripe is that they replaced the voice actor for Titus from the first game. The new voice is close but it doesn't feel quite right.
So for people that didn't play the 1st Space Marines and don't know why people wanted to put a boltor to Leandros skull. He was Titus Squad brother in the 1st Space Marine game and he was an annoying little brat that questioned Titus actions at every chance with "But it doesn't align with the codex". Throughout the game Titus is trying to teach Leandros that the Codex is just a set of guidelines and not something to follow so strictly as that would only impede the mission doing so. Leandros at last acts outside the Codex and this 1st act was to Sell out Titus to the Inquisition without hesitation instead of informing their Chapter 1st to confirm whether or not he was actually tainted by the warp like the Codex says. Because of him Titus was in exile for a century in Deathwatch.
The symbolism is striking: Leandros, who betrayed his brother and cast Titus into exile, would now walk a path of solitude as a Chaplain, carrying the weight of his past betrayal. Meanwhile, Titus, after suffering the consequences of Leandros' actions, would return to gain the respect of his Chapter and brothers, a symbol of true leadership and honor. In contrast, Leandros would walk alone in his guilt and duty, forever reminded of the brotherhood he destroyed in his blind adherence to the Codex. It's poetic justice, with Titus being vindicated and Leandros burdened by the very role that forces him to confront his past failure. His blind devotion to the Codex, which destroyed his brotherhood with Titus, would be challenged by a role that requires a deeper understanding of faith and flexibility in interpreting the Emperor's will.
Before he was in the deathwatch he was kept in stasis by the inquisitor that took him at the end of Space Marine 1. After that inquisitor got possessed by a demon and killed, he was sent to the Deathwatch because they didn't know what to do with Titus.
Yeah. I liked the line Galadriel used "The Codex Astartes does not support this action ...." long pause. "But I'm looking forward to it!" That's pretty good writing actually. Left us hanging for a minute.
Agreed but with how Game Workshop policy been going on lately, we can just hope they realized this success and stop whatever they were planning with DEI in their franchise...
1:48:12 "Why can't I have that?" because that is the equivalent of a wheelchair for Space Marines. Honestly, Titus would probably have been interred if he wasn't so badly wounded. It sounds like the Rubicon surgery was the only thing that could truly save him.
It's so refreshing to witness dialogue which is well written and to the point. Not this cringe "youth speak" that Ubisoft and others often use in their games.
they rly need to fix dodging, its EXTREMLY dogshit, you either see in to the future or you cant parry/dodge many things, timing are under a second tight, and its to weak for some enemies, like the big robot things that charge at you
Interesting. Lore Accurate Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marines. Notice that Titus ripping the head off of the chaos space marines didn't spray any blood but purple energy? Those are Thousand Sons. They do not have a body. Their soul is implanted in their armors and they are pretty much walking warp ghosts with psionic powers. Really cool that they made this lore accurate. Even the demons they field seem accurate (bird-like blue demons from tzeentch).
As someone who has read all of the printed Ultramarines book in the past 20 years, you cannot imagine the payoff that I experienced from the last level of this game. Truly thank you to the devs. This game is exactly how the books are. If you are interested in reading, PICK UP ANY SPACE MARINES book! Any of them! You know what the world looks like now, so try out that world. And remember, femstodes aren't real. Just very pretty custodes with silly voices.
Have not read the fiction but was a Ultramarine player from 1st - 3rd ed. Still follow along 40K/WHFB with the games, and still have my miniatures (3rd Coy, I hated the yellow trim of the 2nd - gold is a nice change) - none of this Primaris stuff obviously. What an absolute treat to fight alongside a dreadnought and Marneus Calgar. Nailed the VA, visuals, audio - everything. Peak 40K, no question. Kinda motivated to go back and read the fiction now and catch up on what I missed with the Primarchs. Nothing by Gav Thorpe though - he deserves to be banished to the Warp alongside Tom Kirby. Just awful at design, can't imagine his other writing being any better.
Lutien lore overview videos or Horus Heresy 1st 4 books horus rising, false gods, galaxy in flames flight of the eisenstein. The events of 30k are important to understand how we arrived at 40k
doubtful, Saber has a history of adding content after launch, and seeing how well the game is doing with playercounts, they are making a killing off of this based on sales
I love how the Cadians were the ones among the Guard who were unaffected by the warp in Demerium. Goes to show how not only their discipline and experience but their constant exposure to incursions and Black Crusades from the Eye of Terror rendered them resistant to the horrors of Chaos. That's attention to detail right there.
i mean you only find very few that resisted. You come across ALOT that went mad before you find the strong-willed ones in the game after you come out of the tomb
Got me a little skeptical. I mean, if during an excavation a Magos touches a random rune the entire tomb world light up like fireworks, but here a freaking warp rift opens on top of it and everyone's still sleeping.
I’m not sure why they didn’t immediately wake up and start blasting. The dataslate there talks about awaking them up too. So maybe they already left that tomb and went elsewhere. There’s only a few dead/destroyed Leviathans. So my assumption is. They already killed them on that planet since the Space Marines decided to burry Vulkan and a few other Primarchs there. But who knows. Maybe they have to wait for all their homies to wake up.
For those who don't know, Leandros was a subordinate to Captain Titus from the first game. He kept saying things like "the Codex Astartes does not support this action" (hence Gadriel's reference when they were about to do the sub-orbital drop). Leandros was the reason that Titus was banned to the Deathwatch and blamed for heresy. So it's kind of surprising that he is also the chaplain.
I mean not really. Chaplin is a role reserved for the most zealous - because they also serve as kind of political officers for the Unit. Leandros is the definition of a zealot, and it's been a century - time enough for him to climb the ranks. He is no young-faced recruit.
Titus : Stop an Ork invasion and a Demon prince ascension. Leandros : didn't stop anything, constant detractor, ran away and let Titus and Sidonus to die, snitched, got rewarded. At least the new primaris route had Titus fare better than the original plan, which would have him going rogue, being hunted down by the Inquisition, his fellow marine and fight enemies of the Imperium, then eventually formed his own band of exiled marines and being redeemed.
Isn't that pretty much what happened with Lion El'Johnson's return? Mfer woke up in a galaxy under siege from all sides, decides to go look for exiled Dark Angels and re-integrate them into his new Dark Angels chapter.
If you think about it, Leandros fits the role of a Chaplain perfectly. Chaplains are the type of officers that are by the books and does not change with the opinions of others
Leandros became chaplain because that's what he did best - stayed rigid in his faith and vigilant to almost a paranoid degree. That would seem stupid until you remember that Horus was Emperor's favorite and most accomplished Primarch. How did that turn out? So yes, in universe Leandros was EXACTLY right to do what he did. Especially since nobody seems to know what a blank is (that is Titus)
@@leqeque7383 I had more problem with a coward like Leandros being rewarded than him being a literal NPC following the rule. Have Leandros being chaplain, in comparison to actual great Ultramarine Chaplain like Cassius, it's a disgrace. Cassius, like Titus, didn't follow the Codex like a bot, but rather use it as a guide and does what he think is best for the Chapter. Now that I think about it, Cassius is somewhat similar to Titus, he's buddy with Calgar, didn't follow Codex strictly, also got mortally wounded by a carnifex and rebuilt, was well respected by fellow marines and even form his own battle band.
The diversity in this game is actually super unique. Each cast in the game felt like actual characters and not just solely based on their race. Chairon and Gadriel didn't feel like forced DEI characters. The fact that the most badass characters in this game are actually the disabled characters. The first one being Calgar being handicap with both his arms being robotics and second being the Dreadnought which is basically a dude with a moving life support.
in Calgar's case it's not just his arms that are robotic, in terms of body parts he's practically lost 2 full bodies at this point. He's almost like a human version of the Ship of Theseus, I'm pretty sure the only body part he's never actually lost is his head (granted, there have been dozens of retcons over the years that seem to serve only to return his original organic body parts to him just so that he can lose them in a different battle). the first and most famous fight though was his total dismemberment at the hands of The Swarmlord (kinda a shame we never got to see Calgar vs Tyranids in this game). some tellings of this particular battle had Calgar lose all 4 limbs and a worrying percentage of his major organs (though for the sake of the aforementioned retcons more recent tellings admittedly only say that Calgar was "rent" (which does at least mean torn apart so he must've lost something), "torn", and "gravely wounded"), and yet he was still enough of a badass to command the space battle just a few hours later after only the bare minimum of medical attention.
Diversity has always been a thing in 40K. Ultramarines come from Ultramar which consists of 500 worlds. Each world would be like earth. The problem is activists want to put females into a sole male only faction for the sake of “diversity”.
Giant portion of Sabre Interactive are (or at least used to) based in the Saint Petersburg. And russian fan community for Warhammer 40000 is fucking crazy giant.
Saber Interactive Inc. is an American video game developer and publisher based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Founded by Andrey Iones, Matthew Karch, and Anton Krupkin in 2001, it is controlled by Karch's investment company Beacon Interactive. The company employs over 1,350 people. It's history shows it being founded in St. Petersburg. This is information off the Wikipedia page: Saber was acquired by Embracer Group in February 2020 in a deal worth US$525 million. Under the deal, Saber became the fifth direct subsidiary under Embracer and maintains autonomy. Post-acquisition, Matthew Karch continues to serve as chief executive officer and Andrey Iones as chief operating officer. After joining Embracer, Saber became a platform for future acquisitions of other studios In March 2024, following earlier reports, Embracer Group announced that it would divest Saber Interactive by selling it to Beacon Interactive, a company owned by Karch, for US$247 million. As part of the deal, Saber Interactive retained the Saber-branded studios, 3D Realms, Digic Pictures, Fractured Byte, Mad Head Games, New World Interactive, Nimble Giant Entertainment, Sandbox Strategies, SmartPhone Labs, Slipgate Ironworks, and Stuntworks, as well as their associated intellectual properties, whereas Embracer Group kept 34BigThings, Aspyr, Beamdog, Demiurge Studios, Shiver Entertainment (later sold to Nintendo), Snapshot Games, Tripwire Interactive, and Tuxedo Labs. Beacon Interactive was also given the option to buy 4A Games and Zen Studios at a later date, but both studios ultimately stayed with Embracer Group. From what I can tell, Saber Interactive did use it's Russian studio to help develop the game, alongside it's American one, their other Saber branded companies in Europe and in conjunction with Focus Entertainment who are a French video game developer. I didn't know they were founded in Russia which is interesting. I wasn't aware of this company until this game came out. Funny, they put out World War Z which I remember being an abomination of a video game.
I played on veteran, that final boss fight was no joke. It was however so well designed, every mechanic was easy to understand and none of my deaths felt cheap. I died A LOT. It took me about an hour. His health bar was no joke probably 6x more durable than on regular. I feel like I did 20 rounds with the demon prince. What a great game. Hope Asmon does the operations now because they directly complement the campaign

@Svartie yeah orcs got the warhammer fantasy aesthetic, but even more obvious is starcraft LOL they literally got space marines in there, zerg are pretty much tyranids and protoss are based on eldar, and ofc psykers and stuff
Funny you say that, Blizzard originally wanted to make the Warhammer & 40k & DnD tabletop games into video games back in the 90s but couldn't get the rights due to Games Workshop viewing video games as competition at the time, so instead they made Warcraft, Starcraft, & Diablo. There's a reason why all of those games seem like copies, because they were, which they will never admit though because Games Workshop sues everybody. Warhammer & DnD are basically a Lord of the Rings copies anyways so whatever, who gives a shit.
It never even occurred to me to leave that room he was dying on at 15 in. I always camped the room with the infinite ammo box and sniped everything outside until it was safe.
Boltgun is actually tied into Titus story, it takes place on Graia, the forge world from sm1. You even gotta collect the same Warp artifact. S M1 is first, then Boltgun and finally SM2. Now the artifact is finally destroyed.
Wow, Russian developers really do know their Warhammer 40k (Like 'Rogue trader' and this) and really get its 'feel' right. Srsly it looks more like 8.5 than 7.5 to me.
I'd say preorder games like this, because you can't know it is "like this" (actually a complete game) until it is out, thus you cannot preorder games unless you want to get scammed. So yeah actually every game should be "Don't pre-order." And we can just be pleasantly surprised with games like this.
This is pure cinema...6/10. It is so manly, simple, and good. The Russian team did amazing. The art director is an amazing woman and truly loves the hobby and lore. GW should learn a thing or two. Sadly, this experience is stained by the female custodes for DEI.
That right there. That bit when Calgar forces his way through the slowed time spell. THAT'S the exact energy missing from gaming these days. Similar vibes to the older WoW cutscenes.
I love Asmon's blissful ignorance as he plows along the game. Facing a Thousand Sons terminator (i.e. something with the firepower and resilience of a battle tank AND a powerful Chaos magician, all in one) and going in "these are annoying", my dude, one of these guys can pulverize entire squads from afar with his firepower and when things come close and personal literally throw everyone in the air and detonate them. They are not "annoying". They are pure unrelenting power.
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my hair, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of baldness. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Dome. But I am already saved, for the Bald is immortal… Even in death I serve the Baldman."
13:27 "They do so much damage!" Yup, Thousands Sons Rubricea Marines(the Marines of the Legion that where victimes of Arhiman's Great Erasure spell) uses Warp infused ammo, wich boost the penetration power of the ammo to the point where it can easely go through even Power armor.
The 13th Legion of Rome, known as Legio XIII Gemina, was indeed famous in Roman history. It was known as Julius Caesar's loyal legion. It was with him thru the Gaelic Wars and the Civil War. The 13th Legion crossed the Rubicon with Caesar, when he famously stated "the die is cast". The 13th Defeated Pompey during the Civil War. Even after Caesar's assassination the legion continued to serve honorably.
This game gave me a true Sense of brotherhood that I haven’t felt since my time in the army. I’m happy to see games like this come back and show good vs evil
"I care enough to get mad, not enough to get good." the quote that defines every game Asmon's ever streamed. I still remember when it took him two separate several hour sessions to even realize he had class abilities in Dark and Darker.
Only a team of based Russians could have created such a based game. In terms of gameplay it could have been better but overall this is a huge fanservice for 40k fans. I would play it on lower difficulty level just to make it feel more lore correct. Although, i think the first one was better. It's very similar but in some ways better.
I think you also need to thank Focus Interactive for not interfering too much with predatory monetization practices only staining the game with "early access" and letting lead designers figure out how to make the game. But IMO, it's better to have "early access" for a mostly singleplayer game than other ways to milk players out of their money that affect the gameplay itself
Back in 2009 I got an Xbox achievement for watching all the credits after a game. Ever since then I sit and wait for the credits to finish just like a marvel movie in theaters. Sometimes there’s an achievement, most times there’s not.
The ending clearly sets up a DLC. I hope at the end of that DLC Robute comes in and makes Titus a Chapter Master. Theres tons of Ultramarine succesor chapters with an unknown date of creation and unknown master perfect for Titus. Im thinking "Heralds of Ultramar" they are canon and everything except what they look like is unknown, it doesnt retcon anything and it doesnt break any lore by making Titus their chapter master.
No wonder Asmon likes playing summoners in games, his bots just carry him in SM2 as well, while he just rolls off cliffs and doesn't know how to parry.
When chairon mentions the word bearer attack when he was a boy, that event happened during the Horus Heresy, the battle of Calth. The primaris marines initially have been in stasis for 10,000 years. It caught me off guard when I saw it. I’m sure over the millennia there have been multiple chaos incursions known and forgotten. But usually THE battle of Calth is during their heresy. It’s awesome they included that background for his character.

@@AQS521 Definitely. The swarms aren’t actually difficult. If you angle and time it correctly, you can use the explosive barrels to take out chunks of enemies. Another thing I learned was to shoot the swarms from the side rather than head-on, which allows you to take out large groups in one blast. That’s why I preferred the melta over anything else. On several occasions, I basically annihilated the swarms before they could even climb up the walls. I used the plasma pistol for long-range engagements against heavily armored targets. You can even cheese the bosses if you’re too low on health for riskier engagements. The final boss was challenging, I will admit, although playing Elden Ring eased the pain. 😂

@@ze-ph9774 it seems that the next mission on the DLC or Space Marine 3 is going be Leandros will be trying to set him up again
Before he was in the deathwatch he was kept in stasis by the inquisitor that took him at the end of Space Marine 1. After that inquisitor got possessed by a demon and killed, he was sent to the Deathwatch because they didn't know what to do with Titus.

I’m not sure why they didn’t immediately wake up and start blasting. The dataslate there talks about awaking them up too. So maybe they already left that tomb and went elsewhere. There’s only a few dead/destroyed Leviathans.

@@swordarmstudios6052 Leandros irks me just a little bit, but he's suppose to. When I saw he was the Chaplain I was like ah yes, perfect role for him.
@@mindspank Daddy is bringing the boys home because its judgement day and he is the Damocles' Sword above everyone's neck.
Calgar is wearing power fists. He got his arms just fine. He went through the rubicon primaris.

Petersburg. This is information off the Wikipedia page:
Saber was acquired by Embracer Group in February 2020 in a deal worth US$525 million. Under the deal, Saber became the fifth direct subsidiary under Embracer and maintains autonomy. Post-acquisition, Matthew Karch continues to serve as chief executive officer and Andrey Iones as chief operating officer. After joining Embracer, Saber became a platform for future acquisitions of other studios
In March 2024, following earlier reports, Embracer Group announced that it would divest Saber Interactive by selling it to Beacon Interactive, a company owned by Karch, for US$247 million.

It caught me off guard when I saw it. I’m sure over the millennia there have been multiple chaos incursions known and forgotten. But usually THE battle of Calth is during their heresy. It’s awesome they included that background for his character.
Asmongold slowly becomes xQc with the increasing of skipping content from the games
Yeah sometimes it feels like he wants to get it over with as soon as possible because it stresses him out. Don't think he actually enjoys playing games in front of an audience.
@@boremir3956yeah he’s getting into his older age and just isn’t as good and makes mistakes and with his community they love shit talking he’s made them that way so I’m sure him messing up over and over again and people not shutting up about telling him what to do or that he’s bad probably makes him not even enjoy it
i have never heard Asmon said, "oh fuck thats looking fresh"
Funny how Russia makes best WH40k games now. SM2 and Rogue Trader. I miss old Relic.
Russia didn’t made WH40k SM2 . Sabre InterActive is a mix of talent from East and West Europe and North and South.
It is an American studio what the F are you talking about?
They have Russian devs who are NO LONGER in Russia for obvious reasons...
Good for them...

@@WastedEfforts yep, everything is exactly the same as with the same Atomic Heart or Escape From Tarkov, de jure they are not listed as russian/russian, in order to bypass sanctions, to make it easier to work and earn money, but de facto the teams themselves mainly consist of russian/russian developers.
Man I was struggling watching the last one, but the way he finally figured out how parry works right at the very end was incredible.
Has anyone noticed that Titus look like Michael De Santa from GTA?
Asmon, when you say "Thank Fucking God" you mean God Emperor of course?
I noticed after playing again. When we hear Rise, son of Guiliman. It says Voice instead of Calgar. Wonder if it was the Emperor.
The game rewards you for fighting ultra aggressively I completed the campaign on Angel of Death solo with power sword melta-gun and plasma pistol whole way through lol
You're right, brother. The ones saying it is unbalanced just don't know how to play
Watching this dudes videos makes me so happy and calm . It’s unbelievable. Thank you dude!
Another game of the year contender. We got a very nice lineup. But I think Dustborn will take it home...
The devs will watch the GOTY awards at home I mean
Wukong deserves it but this deserves #2, Baldur's gate #3
Im on my stalker 2 copium but its niche so I doubt it
Nah Concord is where it's all at! look at that 2 week timeline of success
@@omarali262 Does Baldur's gate have like a DLC? How can it contend for this year?
I was looking for diversity in Space Marine 2. The option to kill other xenos was just not there and that takes away some points. Not inclusive enough, 6/10.
Massive warhammer fan,It’s nice to see new people recognise how insane space marines are and warhammer 40k in general is,13 years we waited for this and some scenes were absolutely spine tingling!
Also Calgar is the chapter master of the Ultramarines under Guilliman
W Russian devs🗿🤫
Yeah, it is refreshing to play a game that isn't made by completely castrated devs.
A concise, polished experience > wide disjointed pool of stuff for the sake of variety box-checking.
