Phil and Kristie are outstanding and I really enjoy their candid relationship! It’s wonderful to see their genuine concern to please their clients, and I love seeing all the amazing locations in the UK! ❤I really appreciate Kristie’s dynamics, in terms of communicating the realities of her clients search, and Phil is just so adorable, sweet and kind! A hottie, for sure!
The problem is they can’t really do that because it would take too much time, specifically because it usually takes 3 months plus to close on a house in the UK. They have to wait at least three months for them to move in and at least another two months for them to settle in. They can’t do that.
I suspect the sellers of the Stainton house lowered the price from 500,000 to 400,000 after partitioning off the back lot to sell separately. If you do that in the USA, you usually have to put something in the deed to the front property allowing "right of way" access to the rear property.
I think you're exactly right on the price drop. I enjoy watching this show because the house buying process is so different than in the US. The lot that was separated from the manor house is a perfect example. It was surprising that the lot had no access. In the US, it would be simple to change the deed on the manor house to include a permanent easement for the lot or change the dimensions of the lot so there would be another way to access it. Since the same people own the house and lot, it seems like the solution would be simple. It seems crazy that the owners can't allow access to the lot.
I'm pretty sure (in the USA) you can sue and get a judge to force an adjacent landowner to give you road/vehicle access to your property if it is "landlocked" (that's the term I couldn't remember before) on all sides, as that back lot will be. That's what is going to eventually happen here, if access is not provided on the deed or voluntarily. I think the sellers were trying to pull a fast one.
I don't understand why people are so willing to spend up to their maximum budget or to exceed it. They are going to be house rich but cash poor. Life is unpredictable and what happens if one partner loses their job or the house needs unexpected repairs? I was approved for a $750,000 mortgage but I ended up buying a $400,000 house. The house still fulfilled all our needs and the mortgage payment was easily met and we still had money to save her invest at the end of the month.
@@thehungrygoldfish Do you know the meaning of the word "BUDGET"? Do you listen to the buyers when they tell the estate agents they can't exceed such and such amount? The agents are ALWAYS showing homes that exceed the stated budget and nine out of ten times the buyers say they can't raise the extra funds or how they find a house they want and put in a offer lower than the asking price and then are dejected because the seller won't accept the lower bid and the buyers can't raise a few thousand extra quid.
@@williamegler8771 Sometimes it is necessary to show someone a house slightly over their budget to get exactly what they want. If they absolutely can't, then OK, just choose another house.
I know of a couple where the husband was approved for (2x as much mortgage) than he spent on their first house as newlyweds. In US: they could have gotten a custom, new build in a planned, landscaped, new community development, but the wife echoed your exact point: what if he lost his job? Make the mortgage comfortable and worry less. Have extra for investment and improvement on the house; decorating and such. Now they're divorced, after all these many years later, (this was decades ago), but she's upgraded the house somewhat, solo, and still happily lives in it! It has increased in value over 100 percent.
I too was approved for a budget bigger than I was comfortable with. I wanted to be able to be a stay-at-home mom, and have one income be sufficient. I thought it was going to be a starter home, but the kids have now flown the nest and I am still here in my affordable abode full of memories. I also saved a bundle not moving to bigger and better and then having to down-size again.
There is the Newcastle Dog and Cat Re-homing Shelter which is a tad closer to Whitley Bay than Battersea - love the fact you helped point the couple to adopting a dog ❤️
I think asking myself over and over again and please help me out... WHY on earth should anyone need THREE living rooms???? I don't get it. Seems absurd. Doesn't it? Really?
So interesting. Often the women are shown to choose a home but my mom always told me that my dad chose their homes. It has been the same in my marriage. Often we discount what a man sees in a property. Often there is a beauty or romance that is dismissed. Additionally, there is something about a man coming home to a home he loves that is relationship stabilising.
That manor house they liked so much was just so odd looking. It had been added on to so much that I found it quite ugly, actually. Thanks for the upload.
@chrissiehaskell I have been to see it twice ... difficult to envision how huge it is with the base holding it taller than I (5'6) ... there is a parking area & people stand & stare ... no rubbish scattered about the place either ... a treasure ...
Hmm....it's funny...This is an episode where both couples were perfectly reasonable and not overly picky but I don't know...I'm bored. I love drama and conflict, apparently, lol.
Those terraces are usually freehold, which means no HOA. The roads are adopted by the local council. Normally if there is a monthly charge it is stated.
In North America never would your realtor say YOU go talk to the vendor!! That’s why u have a realtor to do ALL the negotiating…and if you make an offer would Not the vendor’s plan to sell off some of the property be Null & Void?
Kristy and Phil have show/ help time limits. Kristy was leaving. In the U.S. we do sometimes talk to/deal with sellers directly. In some cases we also plead cases with personal letters about ourselves to influence sellers too. Every sale is different.
Love these episodes. However, I wonder if they are still making this program today, in 2023? The current episode is for 2011. Does anyone know if Kirstie and Phil are still producing the show?
@@savvysue3537 I'm in the US as well, I've only found a couple of the newer ones on here, but they don't tend to stay up for too long. I haven't found a better way of viewing them yet other than this
If they liked the Stainton property, what does a bungalow at the bottom of the garden matter - a £600,000 house for around £400,000+ why not share the joy?
View and access issue. Not to mention construction for a period of time. If the first two were not to be an issue, I personally would be happy to bear the third. The owners were obviously happy in the area and wanted to downsize.
On a number of occasions, I have thought that Phil and Kirstie are a couple. They are not! Phil is married and has a family. Kirstie has at least 1 child.
Only got a minute in to see a couple changing the baby's bum ON THE DINING TABLE. Really?!? Reprehensible. Would you come over for a meal at their house? I question all decisions made by these people forever after seeing that. Btw, I've changed thousands of nappies and that's just not ok. Saw a mother washing a poopy bum off in the swimming pool once. This is #2 grossest moments.
For whatever reason, all I could think about was Maurice Gibb when Chris was on the screen. Funny how certain people just remind you of others. The voice, the shape of the face, and his smile, all made me think of Gibb.
His voice, accent, face, smile remind me of someone too: a British actor or a comedian. I had to pause the video and go and lie on the bed for a while to think about it because it was irking me so much, but no, the name wouldn't come to me.

Awwwwww Phil is indeed a gem!
I would buy that house just for the Aga 😮
The only thing that would have made this show better would to show the couples AFTER they had moved into the houses they bought.
They do some revisits after they have moved in

That cottage with the garden overlooking the pond and church was gorgeous. I live in London but would love to live somewhere like that.
I hope the other. Couple do as well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💞🥰🤗
