Jen, I am so happy you are back on RUclips. Your reviews are so valuable and answer so many of my questions. I love how BJU explains the reason for math but dislike how it’s not enough explanation for the problems. I was praying since the Pre-Algebra was update those issues were fixed. I guess we will continue with CLE Math8 😊. Also,I love how you made the lessons hands on. Thanks for your review.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate them and am so glad to hear that the reviews are helpful. Yes, there were a few (two or three) lessons that I felt needed more explanation, but I would not recommend marking off this curriculum just for those two or three lessons. Math Antics videos did a great job of explaining what I wanted to get across in these concepts. As you know, no curriculum is perfect, but this one definitely provides a lot of resources to be at your fingertips when you need them. :)
We've chosen BJU Pre-Algebra based on your reviews! My rising 7th grader did not want online, and after my daughter saying she wasn't good at math while doing Beast Academy, I had written off AOPS too. Thank you much for your review. Do you have a calculator recommendation? I haven't opened my books yet... We plan to continue with BJU Algebra but I can not find anything needed for that, either.
Thank you!!!! We use Texas Instruments TI 84. The BJU pre-algebra activities book has the calculator information in it. I’m working on a BJU algebra flip through since we are using it this year.
My son too is going into 7th grade. I spent so much time this summer researching math programs! Oh my goodness, there are SOOO many out there! I finally decided on BJU Press Algebra 1. I agree, one of the winning aspects for me, was the use of and teaching of the scientific calculator that I think many programs do not include. Unfortunately, as of January of this year, the company has updated their Algebra 1. So I ended up purchasing the "outdated" version, but I still am excited about it! Thanks for this review. I haven't seen many for BJU Press upper level math. I take it, you're not continuing with it? What are you moving to for Algebra 1?
We actually are continuing with BJU Press Algebra 1. We loved the pre-algebra program last year and I was able to get the updated Algebra 1 materials for this coming year. I'm excited about it, too! Please let me know how it goes.
We used it as parent-led, so it did require time from me. However, there are video lessons that BJU offers that would mean little teacher time required. Your child's math ability and interest would definitely impact how much time is required from you. The teacher's guide and student book provide great explanations, examples, and practice problems.

Hi, thanks for the review. How teacher intensive is BjU pre-algebra?
We used it as parent-led, so it did require time from me. However, there are video lessons that BJU offers that would mean little teacher time required.
