Did Not Finish: 2 Types of Revision

There are many different types of revision, but I'm focusing on two general categories here:
Creative, expansive revision, in which scenes are fleshed out, broadened, and explored further.
versus
Critical, contractive revision, in which redundant and unnecessary elements are removed.
In this video I pick on a particular example of a book I did not finish because of too much redundancy and sloppiness.

I have this book, and wasn't able to finish it either. I really really wanted to like it because I met the author and she's a struggling novelist just like me. You've always been better at pointing out why things don't work than me, so thanks for that.

Same, I wanted to like it and bought it from the author in person, but it's tripped up by not enough refinement.
