I listened to maestro Diaz in Turin at the "Tempio Valdese" in the '80s, it was a Thursday. I was very, very impressed and touched by his art. Exactly one day before, on Wednesday I also listened to my favorite guitar player back then, Paco De Lucia! Well I was moved more by maestro Diaz. It is not right to make comparisons in terms of "who is better", this is not the case. I was impressed because Diaz was playing alone and of course strictly with no amplification while De Lucia was in a sextet with a strong amplification system, and still Diaz could create a magic atmosphere that I didn't feel in De Lucia. Who knows, maybe amplifications and recordings actually subtract something to art in the end, doesn't it? De Lucia still remains an unreachable artist, don't get me wrong! Two different approaches to the guitar, two astonishing artists...
