Hello, good video, I’ve been making seaweed feed for years, I like the bucket with holes in another bucket like a sieve, I’ll try that, i will say that seaweed doesn’t need to be rinsed of salt and the salt content isn’t huge and will plants no harm and is infact a very beneficial mineral in these quantities, I totally agree it stinks though!! I keep mine in the greenhouse to rot quicker and when I go in to water my tomatoes blimey does the smell hit me!!! Cheers for the video mate👍🏻
I pick up sea weed and mulch it like Rice, made a mulcher , with a blade, electric motor, direct drive, go good , put the stuff , on the Garden in Fall , seems to Be Working well , Did good with potatoes, this year, first year trying it , I enjoy your video , thanks,
I LOVE when I find a fellow British on YT. I collect seaweed only in October and have never washed it 🧐🤔 oh oh I must start washing it. I normally just put it straight on the raised beds, add kitchen scraps that I have saved up for a month, some crushed eggshells and also stinging nettle. I then cover it all with horse manure and some compost. Cover it with a large, weed fabric and leave it until mid March when I uncover and leave it for 2-3 weeks before turning it, adding fresh compost, then I start planting. It has never affected my plants or soil thankfully.
no do not wash it, you keep the microbiotic, the sea salt has diverse trace minerals, increases electric conductivity and combined with your kitchen scraps it will get the nitrogen to a fast composting. Do not wash it.

It's ok to use them with the salt. In my village they just bury it directly in the soil. It's amazing for the plants. The rain will wash the salt. But attention maybe it's because we plant in sand that it's very similar to the beach sand, which doesn't retain any water, it's a very oxiginazed soil.
@@ProjectDiaries hi I was just wondering I have an avacado plant growing in a fairly large pot of around 75- 90 litre pot full of organic horse manure compost. I came account your RUclips channel about using seaweed liquid fertilisers. My avacado plant which is now approximately 1.8 metres tall has leaves turning brown at the tips. I do not want to use harsh chemical fertilizers is there by any chance that seaweed liquid fertilisers are any good for avacado plants? I do live over in the UK so very windy and very frequently raining, but having grown my avacado plant from seed now around 2-3 years I do think it requires some sort of fertilisation as just watering the plant isn't doing very much just more leaves turning brown and crumbling off. If you have any kind advice or tips on growing avocado plants it would be very helpful and great. Thank you, Kind regards, Tom.
I love seaweed, here on Grand Manan we got the good stuff. Dulse, alaria, sea lettuce, laminaria digitata, nori, kombu, kelp and all the rockweed you could ever want. Pick, rake, just depends on zones and laws :)
You've nailed it again, I'm going down to The West Pier now. I can't catch fish, and my new worm pump doesn't work, surely I can catch some seaweed. This is the video I wanted you to make, and I was just about to get some fertilizer from Poundland
A great free fertiliser, have to say though I've never rinsed it off and never found a problem. Good points about only using washed up weed that isn't living or providing a habitat.
Not sure if he’s right that plants don’t like sea salt as where I live there are fields along the coast with a good variety of wild flowers, trees, plants whereas more inland there is way less biodiversity

I was at the seaside today so while there I grabbed a big bag full of seaweed and brought it home. I washed it all down and then blended a load into a pulp then spread that around the base of my plants and watered it down. I'm going to try making a liquid fertiliser next with some and see how it goes.
Hi...Awesome.. If I make too much and only have indoor plants...Can I freeze the very diluted mixture I've made.?... And should I fertilize my indoor plant about once a month? Even during Jan-Feb? Thanks so much.
You'd be surprised how salt tolerant some plants can be. I live in an area of the U.S. often referred to as, "The Rust Belt". Our roads get salted frequently in winter to remove snow, and it doesn't seem to hurt grass at all. Drainage ditches also seem quite full of life. Still, using a net bag ( from onions or other veggies ) will help any salt laden moisture to drain off before you get the seaweed home.
Can u use the spent material in the compost afterwards? I have the worlds biggest kelp on the washington coast. I can drive on the beach and get truckloads at a time. Want to make biochar and am looking for the ultimate seaweed biochar charger tea recipe.
This video is awesome. I just noticed there is a huge resource of SeaWeed in a local sea I visited here in Nigeria a few days back which prompted me to come online and search for more info. Yours has been a nice one in making liquid fertilizer. I also would want to know how to apply the liquid on crops and the left overs, like you have on the bucket you kept for 4weeks. I need as much Info as I can before I go into harvesting it.
Applying fertilisers is really down to which crop you are growing, which part of the cycle that crop is in and how well your soil is. Over fertilising a plant can cause as many issues as not fertilising

Great video. It’s important to mention that if you you smash up by pounding, chop up, or grind up the seaweed you’ll get a much speedier result. The seaweed will break down over the course of months and so has a long shelf life. I wouldn’t advise using this indoors as it will stick out your house apartment etc.
Another way to use seaweed is as a soil amendment in the fall. In October, we dig trenches in our gardens, lay the seaweed in and bury it. We add composted cow manure and Winter Rye seed on top. Come springtime the seaweed is all decomposed in the soil. This also eliminates smelly seaweed and bugs.
What dilution would we use with the first batch of seaweed juice ? Not sure I understood you 1 part in 10 ? Also , I ve had some brewing for weeks and there is a white layer on top What is this ?( and it stinks )!!! Thanks 🙏
another option would be letting it dry, processing it into a powder and adding it directly to your soil in autumn to let the microorganisms break it down for the following season. my seaweed powder supplier recommends 50g per square meter and applying it only every second year, completely eliminating the need of any fertilizer or other soil amendments.
are there any prooves it is relased slowly? cause there are mixtures of seaweed and somethng else to make it longtermrelased.. did your supplyer only use seaweed on its own?
Have a look at the potassium content on your dried seaweed product. If it's really high, much higher than on this video, it likely has been heated during the processing, which unfortunately destroys some of the benefits related to using seaweed- the cold resistance, for example. Cold processed is best as in this DIY.
I gather seaweed where possible of concrete boat ramps because this stuff is as clean as from all things like sand and tide movements here in NZ. Collect it when you least want it then it will be well brewed by the time you do use it say 6months to a year later or more depending on how much you use in one go. I collect enough to fill no less than my 66gal drum. My drum would be full of rainwater about halfway. Works out that as long as there is enough water in the drum to submerge the weed the better, stirring from time-to-time helps make a stronger brew. Add as much weed as possible every now and again keep adding more weed, place a lid overall. Time means nothing when making seaweed duce I reckon the longer the better. I'll rob my drum as I need it. I take it out by the bucket fulls, pouring it on the ground between my cabbages and collies etc. The only thing I noticed it burnt was silver beet leaves my advice is to render it down a bit here. In the past my cabbages and collies grew to 18"s across the top, its base was as thick as a man's wrist, one could sit on a cabbage with ease it did does not break as one would expect. Cheers 😁😁😁

What are your thoughts on using chicken manure pellets or tomorite? My young tomatoes plants weren't doing that well in the pots so I fed them with some tomorite about a week ago and now they are going great guns!
Hello, Wonderful video, out here where I live we dont have any seaweeds, can I use fruit and vegie skins as an alternative? Thanks Love your content btw
I find it so hard to find information about brewing seaweed compost tea with no airstone. Shouldn't I be considered about it being full of anaerobic microbes? I have a batch in my shed with a lid loosely on it and would still it once a week. It's been there for about 3 months now.
I would be too sure if the same kind of Seaweed would be in fresh water or Lakes. It'll all depend on the nutrition value of the plant. It's possible but I've never tried it
Hi, this video has been really helpful, thank you! Im from Brighton, and love to use what nature has to offer, without causing harm! I have collected seaweed for a few years now, but only used it as a mulch. I never new the ratio of Sea weed extract to water. If it had sat around for a while, it stunk so bad & my neighbours wondered what the smell was! lol! My husband would have to safely dispose of it! Hahaha! I cant stop laughing when I think of it, the smell! Stunk is van out!! Anyhoo, thanks to this video, I now keep it in my greenhouse! Anyway this ratio, if I used 1 ltr of extract how many ltrs of water? please, wasn't sure if it was 10 or 20 ltrs Thanks again
I would think measuring the PPM/TDS would be the best way to go about it. It's never the same strength or have the same number microbes. I tend to overthink thinks tho lol
You can use the sting nettle in the same way. It is even more potent than the seaweeds. Very rich in Potassium, beneficial for leaf growth and health. And the smell is something you never experienced before, more like rotten fish. Nevertheless in garden can make wonders! I use fermented sting nettle concentate on everything in garden. My neighbors keeps asking me what the heck i do with my plants that they never got any diseases and get so nice harvest, especially tomatoes! The secret consists of only 3 things, chicken or pigeons manure, sting nettle and horsetail plants. BTW keep your containers covered by a lose lead or plastic foil wrapped with a elastic cordon till the fermentation is done and your neighbors don't even know you have any fishy there. Once you mix the fermented liquid with water the smell won't be that stong at all.
Another great video. I’ve used commercial seaweed based concoctions before and I’d always wondered if I could have made it myself. A question: What do you do with the used seaweed material? I would have thought you could use it as a mulch but the stench might have the wife and neighbours complaining. My only other thought is bury it? Ideas? Cheers.

macro are also mag, sulphur, calcium, carbon micros are on the micro side, iron nickel silica mnganese, copper, boron, zinc, selenium
What are your thoughts on using chicken manure pellets or tomorite? My young tomatoes plants weren't doing that well in the pots so I fed them with some tomorite about a week ago and now they are going great guns!
You brewed them in a bucket like the video?
Hello,
Wonderful video, out here where I live we dont have any seaweeds, can I use fruit and vegie skins as an alternative?
Thanks
Love your content btw
Grass and straw works - warning the ammonia content can get really high - don't burn your plants.
Great movie. Greetz from Nederland.
I find it so hard to find information about brewing seaweed compost tea with no airstone.
Shouldn't I be considered about it being full of anaerobic microbes?
I have a batch in my shed with a lid loosely on it and would still it once a week. It's been there for about 3 months now.
How often should you water with it?
Interesting. Commercial Seaweed solution is so cheap though and consistent strength.
Possible but that would involve spending money and I'm showing people how to grow things for free :)
Plus the satisfaction of making it yourself.
Might as well just buy a bag of potatoes rather than grow them yourself, using that logic.
What do you call this method? (for school purposes only)
This might be a dumb question but can I use it from a fresh water lake or river?
I would be too sure if the same kind of Seaweed would be in fresh water or Lakes. It'll all depend on the nutrition value of the plant. It's possible but I've never tried it
Thanks for information 👋ℹ️ please ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
You are the best
Aw Thanks! :)
Ideas? Cheers.
I tend to add the used sea weed as a mulch or even chop it up mix it with compost for potted plants.
@@diondestelle3659 doese it relase over a whhole summer steady?
Compost it.
