Wow, you nailed it. As a white boy who spent 8 years hanging out in south dallas I never knew why I hardly encountered any racism but as soon as I went to University in Dallas black folks started being shit to me. It must have been exactly what you were talking about with the suburban people who try hard to be super black. Hood folks just take you for who you are. And they show respect regardless of what you look like. Real talk, sir. I never thought of it like that before.

Brother I grew up in Atlanta Georgia, there was no talks of racism until I moved to the city. I understand exactly what you’re saying. It’s like the more privileged black people become the more they want to feel like victims and complain because they never had to struggle lol. It’s an identity crisis with them lol

      Uhhhh. . . . Hood folks do NOT do that. . . .
Depends on the hood folk tbh. . .
But if you're white and stay in your lane? They generally are good to you.
But if you're black and don't act hood? Expect to be treated like a doormat.
Basically , speaking well and having a brain while black is a threat to my own kind so much that they won't respect me if I do.
I end up keeping quiet when I'm around hood people at first.

      this is super true ,
im an asian who live in America ,
my family weren't that rich ,
u can say i live around the hood ,
the hood folks actually are super respectable to me ,
since i can cook asian foods , sometimes i cook for my neighborhood , and their mommies cook their food for me,
      their food are nice .
life's good , never took any kind of racism or anything .
we even hang out together really often playing trading card games or PlayStation , lol .
but the moment i went to college for bachelor degree years ago ,
people there keep remembering me that im a minority there , in many ways .
and telling me that "it must be hard for minority" -

These progressive types always end up designing/writing such caricatures of whatatever minority they're trying to represent, it's honestly hilarious.
Christ on a cross, just create your characters and don't think about being 'culturally sensateeve like omagaulll', just make the character YOU WANT as an artist, instead of trying to appease people. Of course, if your goal is to show different demographics accurately in your work, then research is needed ofc, but outside of that? The reason people follow artists' work is for their unique flavor, so give people your flavor in your work, instead of copying what others are doing because it's what's in now, or it's culturally sensitive or whatever.

Not black (or American for that matter), but I never understood Killmonger's haircut. Why would a soldier/mercenary have long hair of any kind? That shit just gets trapped in the helmet and like they point out in fight club, gives the enemy something to grab in fight. Any tough action star black or white should look like fuckkng marine, even if they've never even done basic training. Iconography aside it just makes practical sense.
Also, how much care does something beyond a cesar(like I have) a fade or other short style take to maintan? My understanding of dreds, like Eddie Gordo always had, was that it's essentially unwashed or uncombed hair. It why the vikings and celts had them, too.
Really it's worse than not representing the 'x' community, it makes the characters in question (Killmonger, Eddie, Miles Morales) look vain and self-obsessed(like the writers) instead of the serious men of action or selfless young heroes they're meant to be. It's just another example of writers/artists who neither understand proper pcharacterisation nor proper masculinity.

@@jtheconcept4143 No. 😀This is not what i say. I say, that a new agenda of wokeness started to be pushed. They allow new hairstlyes now. And they allow white males as main characters now.
Look at " guardians of the galaxy" "Immortals of aveum" " Star Wars Jedi Survivor 2" "street fighter 6" and more games which were released in the same time frame.
Compare the main character. White male character. SAME HAIRSTYLE. Very similar looks. Caucasian. Has not been allowed for quite a while. Black males or women were dominating. ( Black women with an irokese hairstyle were everywhere ). Which has been clearly a change in comparison to characters before 2016.
And there is another component, which is also part of the script of w0k3n355, which WEF, Blackrock etc. give them in one way or another. For them to follow it. ALL OF THOSE GAMES have an EXTREMELY huge female. Bigger than freaking Ronnie Coleman. This is how they compensate for the white main character. They pushed wokeness too hard. It became very obvious. Now they are doing it a little more subtle. They allow white males in main roles again.
In the same way "prince of persia" and "tekken" and more games got the hairstyle for the black character as part of a script. Look at the patterns. Remember. Recognize common patterns. There are too many for normal freedom of art. It is all a scripted game.
Before that, since 2016 the games were flooded with red haired stronk independent females. Battlefield 5. Horizon zero dawn. Control. Call of Duty Vanguard etc. Those are NOT coincidences my friend. It is a theater. They clearly get their instructions.

I think the idea of representation is an odd one in entertainment. It makes sense in government and product testing but past that I think it’s self destructive. I play games and watch movies for escapism. Last thing I want is a three hundred pound man flying around manhattan calling himself Spider-Man. I want to see people more attractive, cooler, more put together than I am. I can only imagine what a goofy mess James Bond would be if he spoke like me everytime he tried to woo a woman. There’s not enough time in the world to say everything I’d like to say on this subject. My hair is kind of tight and wirey for a white person. I struggle to find good hairstyles that aren’t just brushing it back, curly-top with a fade, or just the white version of a fro. I struggle with that a bit, but I haven’t thought about it too much since I got bullied out of using moose to slick it back in elementary school. I didn’t go a day without a sly Elvis remark. I had a few people tell me I looked like Danny McBride when I tried to grow it out in college. I wish I had straight hair all the time. There really isn’t anything I can do with mine that doesn’t bring an unwanted comparison..

@@jtheconcept4143 That's an utterly fantastic way of putting it. So many people are too busy trying to be someone or something else other than what/who they are. It's the same reason those kinds of people are constantly searching for new labels, or pronouns, to apply to themselves or others.

I think I grasp your opinion J, but your phrasing threw me off initially. I’d say I have more of a wholistic view when it comes to hair style diversity. Black or African male characters in video games until recently tended to have less variety with their hairstyles for various reasons, and I’m excited to see more realistic and unrealistic hairstyles in fictional works such as video games for all ethnicities to enjoy.

My thing is this, I don’t mind generic haircuts if that’s what the story or world they are creating calls for. It’s when they try to be unique to “represent” us is where their lack of understanding really shows. Especially when it’s the only option like in Miles Morales case lol. It’s like first you put a Cuban flag in his home which is crazy lol, then you put an African hairstyle when he’s half Puerto Rican.

i don't get the hate. i really like the hairstyle. it's like gambit from x-men, but African. maybe the reason is because i have stopped watching any media from after 2010 until a couple of years ago. the first time i saw this hairstyle was on kilmonger in wakanda and he looked handsome in it. so i don't know that it's been done a lot in other media. but it just means that it's a really cool hairstyle.

Hopefully, you can change it with the customization options in the game (at least you have that option in Tekken). I personally like Eddy's hair in Tekken 3. Even though I am not black, I get your issue with the hairstyle and even I found rare the choice of hair (his outfit looked like an off amalgamation too xD).
