I've always thought they were cool. When I first started looking at trailers years and years ago these guys were the first and always kept up with them.
Solid, simple, practical… definitely fits my camping needs
New season, looking forward to your adventures and also ours!!
Wishing you a safe and adventurous season!!!
Brian,
Thanks for leading me to Hiker! I just ordered my Mid Range this last weekend. Used you promo code for the $150 off!
That’s awesome, I have to say, I’m pretty jealous. Please keep us in the loop with how your process goes.
Thanks for your detailed walkthrough on this trailer. I really like this buiild and it makes a lot of sense to have a base unit with option to customize the trailer based on one's need/want.
I didn’t realize, until I saw it in person, how high-quality & practical the set up is… very attractive option for anyone who wants a tiny camper.
Seems like the perfect design and reasonable price point. Wondering how these trailers hold up after years of use on dirt roads. Swaying back and forth, bumpy roads etc. Lots of videos of Hiker trailers but I haven’t found any long term reviews like 5-10 years.
I have seen a ton of the original Hikers, their build quality a second to none.
With that being said, the popularity of these cancers really took off a few years ago . We're gonna have to wait a while before we can see how the lions share holds up.
Getting to visit the factory gave me a lot of confidence, they are building these to last .
@@DIYOutdoorLife Thanks for the response. Thats good to know and reassuring. The more I look into other campers/teardrops in this class, the more I keep coming back to the Hiker. The design and maximum use of space just makes sense to me. The price point as well seems reasonable and fair. I’m not in the position to buy a new camper every 5 or so years so I need to make the best choice for my situation. Thanks you for your insight. It is very helpful.
@@jimf.625 also take a peak at road toad. My pick is Hiker but they certainly have a set up worth looking at.
Great video! Wish I watched this one first. Many questions answered here.
I'm glad you found the channel, thanks for watching!
Great information!
Thank you, I appreciate you watching the video.
This is definitely on my "to buy" list.
Me too!
What kind of insulation are in the floor & walls? I just love that fact that you have a screen door to the tear drop camper. I haven't seen that on any of the other tear drop campers except Rustic Trails.
Just insulated ceiling. With tight seals, the wall insulation makes little difference, I would like to see hiker offer an insulated floor option.
I also have thought about insulation floor option (I'm an electrician at hiker). With the way the vinyl floor is trimmed and laid it would be easy for a DIYer to pull it up, slap down 1" wall foam and cover with 1/4"veneer and vinyl flooring if you don't care about losing a couple inches of head room
@@shaneshubert1663 that is awesome to hear, Im going to it!
These are nice trailers! I've watched Matt and Wendy DeWitt for awhile. I might have gone with Hiker if they were closer to where I live.
I love their channel, it’s really nice to see people sharing fun outdoor gear.
Thanks for tuning in!
@@DIYOutdoorLife I love your channel too!
I notice that the galley does not have a cover for when it's rainy. Do you think that it would be a detriment to not have that space under some kind of cover? I'm just beginning to explore these little campers, and it seems like having a covering in the cooking space is a good thing. Thoughts?
Absolutely. We talk about it in the Hiker overview video. In my opinion this set up is actually better. The door that covers overhead doesn’t actually provide protection, that water comes right in and it’s kind of a false sense of security. In either case, getting an awning or canopy to cover the galley space is essential.
Need a 4 door 2 queen mattress like 15' call it the hiker stretch
Nice, that would be cool.
I'm really new to this whole scene. Never even owned a camper. Can you sit up right inside of that thing with a couch kind of situation? Not a fan of the ones that look like they only have a mattress inside, so when you come in from hiking, you have to track muddy boots on your sleeping area.
Yes, you can. One of the best parts about Hiker not including a flat mattress, is that it makes you select the mattress that’ll be best for you. There are several brands that include trifold mattresses and ones that fold into couches.
Cool beans
Very!
Where is the factory located fir touring? I may have missed that in comments.
There’s one in Indiana and one in Colorado, check out the website-

Just curious. They use wood but a lot of other camper builders swear against wood. Is it really that bad if it rots or goes bad?
This is a great question, it's something I'd like to address a lot more on the channel.
People can make strong cases when they're looking to advertise the way they do something. In my opinion, it's a complete tossup. Theres definitely pros and cons to each. With wood, It's important to have something that's well built and watertight. it seems like Hiker industries does this very well.
Thanks. I like the Hiker and another brand that is built close to where I live. I’m gathering all the info I can right now.
@@ridge633 if you don't mind me asking, what's the other brand? I'm always excited to learn about what companies are doing.
Cedar Ridge Campers. The Vega 2.0 but then the make the Danab which is more reasonable along with the Hiker…do you go all out and fancy or just the basics. I’m gonna use it as a base camp hunting out west and trips to Florida with my kayak. Airbnbs get pricey too.
@@ridge633you have found some amazing choices! I don't think you could go wrong either way.
I am a backpacker wanting one of these as a perfect base camp. Learning a lot with each video.
Thank you for tuning in, they are pretty awesome!
You should see the 5x8. 880lbs, anything pulls it.
I am so interested in ovelanding now and want one of these. Need to start saving. Bc it price is so appealing. I am a canvas tent camper now with wood stove. So I mean we are set but we never go overlanding we always go to same spot and this would allow for more exploration and travel. Which is what I want.
Im looking at these or Runaway. I found it was hard to get clear differences between them looking at the site. Is it mostly Suspension, and Tires, and some options? This Video Helped alot.
Theyre both great trailers. IMO, hiker offers a lot more, but you cant go wrong either way!
Hiker is on my radar. Reasonably priced and good quality.
I agree. I think if I knew then what I know now, I would have gone this direction.
Those interiors look super spacious! Wasn't sure how I felt about the galleys on these Hikers at first, but it looks like you get a lot more storage space in these vs a typical teardrop?
I agree, I’ll have to see what the headroom looks like with a 6” mattress in there, but overall the cabin is great.
do many owners of these trailers use them in the winter time and how do you keep these trailers warm in the winter
Yes, great winter trailer.
Hiker has some amazing heating options. They offer propex and truma heaters that are state of the art, low propane use and very good on battery for boondocking.
Took a factory tour two weeks ago. Great place. Good people. Very accommodating and helpful. I really want one of these.
Me too! I think they’re really doing it right.
Great job on all of these Hiker Trailer Videos. I agree with you that this would seem to be the to go with. Have you ordered one? Would you be OK with this little LP tank and mounting it to the side of the trailer? Would you get it with a water tank?, Heating? What length would you get? Thank you as always for the wonderful job you do on these!
Thank you for watching, I really would like to get one of these but I have a lot invested in my BW. We’ll see how it goes, I have to convince my better half to own two trailers…. LoL
The way they set up the propane, there’s a tank on one side for cooking and a tank on the other side for the heater. I would get 11 pounds for each, so it would actually be more propane storage than my current set up (20#). The propex or Truma furnace options are far more efficient than the dometic and suburban, that same amount of propane would go a lot further. By my calculations, I would have 2 pounds more storage, but it would last almost twice as long as my current set up.
I would definitely get the water tank, definitely get heat, probably the 10 foot option, fridge box on the front. The final set up would cost more than my Bushwhacker, but everything is much higher quality and would definitely last a lot longer
Thank you for tuning into these videos, they were a lot of fun to make. Stay tuned for the Xtreme off Road, I think I will release that tomorrow.
Nice Camper and video. I can't wait to see the big fancy camper. I just noticed Hiker will be at the Southeast overland fest this weekend. I am going to go look and see what they got!!
Nice! Let me know what you think, my head is still swirling with the mod ideas!
Very affordable, great value
Should you and I have a second trailer???
I'm a fan to I want one going to be getting one in about a year
I hope I can too!
What length is this one? 5x9, 5x10?
I'm not 100% sure, I think it's a 5X9. Sorry, it's been a while since I recorded this video.
@@DIYOutdoorLife no problem.. thx for the reply. I’m putting together an order for MR 5x10 now.
That's my favorite set up, are you going with the 24 inch galley?
@@DIYOutdoorLife that’s the plan. I think I’m going fully closed off and plan to buy one of the pull out kitchens once I find one that will fit nicely.
@@StevenZinck sounds like it's gonna be an awesome build. Don't forget to use the promo code in our description and get a few bucks off too
Very impressive trailer build. I really like the ideas of being able to buy a bare-bones and finish it out the way you like. I'm definitely going to steal the idea of the rear stabilizer Jacks and add to our teardrop. Sure wish I had known about them sooner.
Trade up!!
@@twloughlin it's a thought and probably would if I didn't redo ours the way we wanted.
@@adventuresofthememorymakers Judging from the videos I've seen on your channel, you seem to have the know-how and tools to take a Hiker and customize it quite well! And I am sure someone out there would love a BW complete with your mods!🙂 But of course, I completely understand why you'd keep the BW - you've done great things to it.
@Tom Loughlin , thank you for the kind words. It was more a matter of not having the time to start from scratch but sure wanted to.
Me too! The build looks like something that can hold up for decades, not sure we can say that about you know who… lol
Nice!!!
It’s a lot of fun to check these out, maybe my next camper?
I have a rav 4 and i want to know can i tow this with it?
What year and model?
@@DIYOutdoorLife 2013 limited awd
@@robertwalton1054 your vehicle can safely tow 1500 pounds. There are several Hiker trailer's that are under this weight. You will want to be mindful about how much gear you add to the trailer and be more cautious in mountainous areas, but this is totally possible.
I do applaud this company for keeping their prices so reasonable for such good quality. I wish I enjoyed towing, but alas, I don't. At this point in my life, were I to do solo camping trips, I think I'd opt for a DIY no-build minivan conversion; a used Odyssey or Sienna. One vehicle doing double duty seems easier for one person. Add a canvas tent or screen house, call it good.
People do great things with minivans. They can be great camping vehicles.
I think their pricing is going to pay dividends to their future success. Some of these companies and dealerships went crazy. My guess is that the resale value of a hiker is going to be their most impressive long-term attraction.
I find myself watching hours of videos on Odyssey and Sienna builds… pretty solid route to take!
@MK Krafts They’re so cool and practical, I’ve seen some incredible builds.
@@DIYOutdoorLife Hey, shoutout to your camera crew!! I wonder who they are??🤔
@@twloughlin haha… they’re free 😁
Where are you located?

Great vid!, but……can you PLEASE quit rocking back and forth while talking? 😀 I’m getting sea sick and getting a headache.
Haha… I’ll try, sorry about that.
