I kinda freaked out too, but I think it was an enlightening vid anyhow-- who would've thought a white girl with a college fund would graduate early bc of financial issues? Really great topic! I don't regret clicking on it like other clickbait vids.
Avoiding debt is so so smart! I made the choice to stay in state and accept a huge scholarship at a public school so I would not buried underneath a ton of debt! I love your perspective on this topic 💕
I think graduating early is so admirable considering how much more dedicated you have had to be! I'm glad you've talked about the financial side of collage because i want yo go to a good school in the uk but also don't want to be in deep debt, thanks for the advice! I'm strangely excited to see your views and experiences after collage!
Hi Katherine, I just wanted to let you know that I just started my college experience today and your videos have helped me tremendously with the transition from HS to college. I have been following your channel for the past couple of years now and you are definitely one of my favorite youtubers! You give wonderful advice and you are also very well spoken! Thank you for the great content and I can't wait to see to more videos from you! :)
You should do a video about grad school! Why you aren't going to be doing it. What your thoughts are on masters degree, especially for business majors. What the advantages & disadvantages are! I am graduating in the spring & I have been toying with the idea of grad school on & off for awhile now!
Влади́мир Ива́нович that's actually pretty common. A lot of people start grad or professional school later either to get a break from school, to gain experience, get the money for tuition, or some other reason. It also gives you time to think about your goals and if you're really sure if you want to do more school and if so exactly what schools or programs. Too many people jump right into college or grad school and end up struggling or unhappy cause it isn't what they really wanted
I know that people are feeling pressured to go to graduate school as more and more of their peers are going, but I would think it through first. Honestly, if your dream job doesn't require the advanced degree and you won't get a significant pay increase, then I would advise against it. You'll have to take on a ton of more debt to acquire the degree and may have to quit working to do it.
Hey! I'm going into my first year (I'm a guy) and your videos are great! Also I found that you have the most mature outlook on collage and life in general from all the collage orientated channels!
i think graduating in 3 years is fairly common..many people come in with a lot of AP credit, but smart choice nevertheless. one of my friends earned a full scholarship to a great state school and she could have graduated in 2.5 years if she wanted to but shes taking full advantage of her scholarship by staying for 4 years and pursuing another degree.
You're a smart lady! I also came into college ahead. To help boost my career opportunities I decided to double major instead of graduating early. :) It's very true that everyone's experience is so so different and that is what makes these years so incredibly life changing!
This is some of the best advice all in one video that I have ever heard of how to manage the college financial experience. I am totally referring some of my students to this video. Awesome job with this!
Thank you so much for posting this video!! As someone who recently graduated high school, my plan was to attend a private school in southern california (it also wasn't my top school) because the school I was planning on going to gave my the best scholarships other than staying in my home state (something I knew I did not want to do at all). However, as the payment due dates were coming up quickly this past summer and I was truly registering how much debt I was going to be and how my college fund would not cover a lot. I ended up deferring my admission one year (so I guess I'm taking a gap year of sorts) so I could take a different route. My plan now is not only beneficial to the career I want to go into, but it also will provide for me in college. I decided to join the Navy Reserves(I still have to enlist), which demands one weekend a month and another two weeks during the year, and do the training required for about nine months, and during those nine months, I will be reapplying to schools that offer better financial aid (hopefully schools that are 100% need met). From my research, I've learned that people in the military have an advantage in admissions, so I'm hoping this experience will help my admissions process. When I return to either a new school or the school I deferred from, I believe my college fund and the GI Bill will cover the costs that scholarships didn't cover. This path will either put me debt free or I will have a very minimal amount of debt, and so now I don't have to worry about being in mountains of debt if I decided to go to business or law school. I'm posting this to inform anyone looking for ways to pay for school :) sorry about such a long post
I'm a sophomore and realized at the end of last year that with the amount of credits I've accumulated and financials, it would be best to graduate early! I'm still adjusting to that idea of a 3 year experience and not a 4 year, but this was such a great perspective on it! :)
I'm going to start studying law in this year and I'm so excited but also a little scared. Your videos help me so much (although I'm not from the US and the college/university system works differently over here), so thank you!
+Dhaval zzstu Gandhi it's not an assumption about her but rather UCLA and how they apparently have super high standards because Katherine is a really good and dedicated student. It was a compliment to her haha
UCLA admissions are crazy random! I go to UCLA but got waitlisted at UCSD and UCI, and I have friends at UCLA who got rejected from Berkeley, and vice versa. I think each school just looks for something different from their applicants!
Yes UCLA is a very smart school, but the main reason over almost 80% of applicants aren't accepted is because their application rates are through the roof and they cannot accept the very large majority of them. They get so many applicants and the number grows every year. In 2015 they got 112,000 applicants! It's unfortunate that that is the case, but that's just how it is.
+Katherout pretty awesome actually😂 The number of people was overwhelming, but I'm so happy and excited for this year. I know I made the right decision on where to go to college👌🏼
Thank you for talking about the financial aspect of college and debt!! I am a financial aid processor and I see so many students make terrible choices with loans!
Katherout Definitely! They're good to help students who really need a little more to pay for their tuition, but it's easy to get in over your head quickly!
Thank you for making this video! Good for you, for taking all of those AP classes. I'm in university right now, and I'm graduating at the same time as well!! :)) class of 2017 💁🏽👏🏾
I'm doing the same! I've managed to wrangle my AP credits and degree plan enough to finish an Electrical Engineering degree in three years without taking more than 17 credit hours per semester. Why stay in college longer if you have the option to move on? :)
I'm doing four years of University and grad school afterwards, but sometimes its better to compact your time so you're really taking in the practical information you need and not messing around. Sometimes I feel like I'm in idling mode!
I'm still in highschool but the classes that I will be taking will contribute to college credits which is great so I can possibly graduate early like you too. Love your videos !!
Wow, the year you graduate college is the year I graduate high school. You've helped me with my high school career so much; I've followed you since 8th grade. Business is most likely going to be my major, so can you tell us the courses you took during college? I think that would be a good way for me to decide if business is something I want to pursue.
I'm taking classes in town this year before applying as a transfer to a university (hopefully USC 😜) because I just don't have the money and it's pretty much the same idea, so I feel you with people thinking its a little odd but it's definitely not. I'm saving as much money as I can by getting my general education classes here for practically nothing and then going to a university for 3 years. I feel like it's made me so much more of an independent person from making this decision that wasn't necessarily my ideal situation but it was the right thing to do.
3 year degrees are standard in the UK. You only do a longer degree if you have a year abroad or work experience, add a masters year or take a specific course like medicine.
In Australia, we don't have the standard four year 'collage' or university timeframe. For example, at my university (which is private) a standard degree can span from 2 years (following the recommended 4 subjects a trimester) whilst adding a second degree or doing law it could take 3/4 years. Medicine is also 5 years and includes the Masters Degree. (Law and Medicine are undergraduate degrees in Australia). I'm a law student, and I'll graduate after 2 years and 8 months (12 months or 3 semesters to go at this point). We pay by subject not by semester/yearly. And most will have some form of Government funded program to defer the uni fees until you earn over $50+ K a year. Just thought it is interesting to compare how different our college/uni experiences are!
Yazulove11 its true. I plan on taking about 4 dual credit classes(college classes) my Jr year of high school and about 5 dual credit classes my Sr year. So that'll get me at about 35+ credits before college. Hopefully that'll boost me because I want to go to college for about 2 years then graduate and go on to dental school.
I will be a freshman in college this fall and I completely understand her decision. I have 12 dual enrollment credits from high school that will transfer over. Depending on my major, I can graduate in 3 and a half years.
This video made me feel a lot better about my decision. I'm going into college with 32 credit hours and the idea of graduating early was really scary to me.
Have you considered Disney College Program or their PI program? Its a great way to get your foot in the door for the Disney company. Good luck whichever path you choose.
In Germany (where I'm studying) it's normal to do your Bachelors in 3 years (if you tried extremely hard and were very lucky maybe even 2 years in some fields) since the last year of high school is kind of like the first year of college in the U.S. :) I find your videos super interesting btw since my biggest dream is to do my graduate at USC and being from Germany I'm struggling trying to figure out how the American university system works 😁
Katherine I relate to you a lot in the sense that I grew up in the bay area (I know your high school very well haha and your boyfriend! not to be creepy!!). I'm also a business major but lately have been feeling so down after comparing my school with others and my major with STEM majors. The future just doesn't seem very bright even though I'm trying & probably getting an MBA. I was wondering how you deal with comparing yourself and whether you think your university really determines your future. thanks!!
+Theresa C I compare myself all the time and every time I do it it's hurtful! it's crazy that business was abnormal at my high school cause now business is so prevalent at SC I feel so natural! just know that you can fake it til you make it -- watch Amy Cuddy's TED talk!
a lot of university degrees in Australia are 3 years, it all depends what you are studying. here we pay for university but it can be deferred through the government in most cases until you are working and earning a certain amount before you pay it back through the tax system. many students here live at home while attending uni or live in private share accommodation with other students like houses or apartments. we do have dorms on some campuses but that is more rare here.
I came in at a sophomore standing and reached my junior standing in my second semester freshman year due to AP credit, but my Animal Ecology major is def not as flexible unless I take summer classes 😅😅😅 zoinks at least I go to a public school! I more envy you than pity you, ya gettin ahead gurl! Shoutout to your parents saving!
I wish I could have graduated early in college. In my country, degrees have a fixed minimum duration, and just technical degrees, such as "Beauty and Makeup" or "X-Ray Machine Operator" are three years long or less. That's why tons of my classmates decided to study abroad (in the US or UK), because for those who stayed here, degrees are 4 years minimum for business and art, 5 years minimum for an engineering degree or architecture (I'm studying architecture), up to 7 years for medicine related stuff. And the sad thing, at least in my university, is that if you ever miss enrolling for a class, or it filled up quickly, you have to wait another semester to fight for that spot in that class (and there are no summer classes for 95% of the classes), so many end up doing a 5-year-degree in 6 or 7 years (which is my case). The nice thing is universities are usually free or less than $5000 per semester, but usually in the free ones you cannot work and study at the same time, because a typical semester is 20 or more credit-hours (my degree is 280 credits total), and the professors expect you to be available full time (it isn't rare for someone to call for a class on a Saturday evening, or anywhere in the weekdays between 6 am - 10 pm).
Love this video! I'm a current freshman thinking of graduating early because I also have a full year's worth of AP credits. I'm just thinking of how it will affect plans for med school so I'm working with my advisor to figure it out.
You're very lucky that your parents saved up for college. My parents didn't save anything, so I've had to take out student loans for every semester. I'm going to be drowning in debt and I'm so scared.
I don't know if I am the only one who did this, but I scheduled my classes based on each semester. For my college, if I take 15 credits every semester I will end up being able to get into my desired program early. I think I would like to do a semester abroad though.
misstortoise102 its simillar in canada but if this person literally can't pay for anything its not a bad idea to work and get the first year out of the way. unless u mean its normal to be that much in debt... cuz thts a lot of debt
+Astronaut yeh it's normal to be in that much debt you pay it back slowly and it's not like normal debt it doesn't stop you from doing anything everyone has it, I do have some savings plus I plan to work at uni so I won't be in that much debt hopefully
I'm a freshman in college & I'm currently going to a junior college with intentions of transferring to a uni.. I absolutely hate my college & turns out they don't have my major anymore. They also messed up my credit hours (twice) & the dorms does not have hot water (living the life huh).. Last but not least I feel like they don't listen to anything I say I want to leave and go somewhere else.. I honestly don't have a single clue what to do.
Actually in my state many students can go into early college in high school which lets them have 2 years of community college once they graduate then they would only would need to go to college for only 2 years! So 3 years isn't surprising :))
Coming from someone who doesn't have a college fund, and wants to go out of state for college next I feel as though I can relate, I want to double major but I'll be paying loans until I'm 92. I feel like people are super ungrateful for what their parents do for them, knowing I'm paying for school 100% alone is soooo stressful
I really really want to go to usc. I want to become a music teacher, my music teacher, Mr.jenkins, says to go to usc for music. I don't think I'll be able to afford it tho, even with financial aid, I really don't want to go to another public school.
Angel Campos I'm going to USC thornton in the fall and I got reasonably generous financial aid. I'll be paying about $31k before loans. U should still apply bc u never know what financial aid will be like'
Hey Katherine!!! It was just recently that I found your channel, and I just wanna say that you seem like such an awesome and kind person who's got a lot ahead of you! Anyways I just wanted to say helloo! My name is Iris, and i'm also a fellow Trojan who also does RUclips :) I actually just graduated from USC this year in May, graduated early (3.5 years), and am also from the Bay Area haha If you're ever back in the bay, need any advice about post grad, or just wanna get coffee sometime, feel free to hit me up! I'd love to connect!
Leaving college early implies you're dropping out. Graduating early makes more sense for a title.
+hungariangymnast96 fair enough! I'm not immune to clickbait
+Katherout I don't mind clickbait if it's for your videos :)
I kinda freaked out too, but I think it was an enlightening vid anyhow-- who would've thought a white girl with a college fund would graduate early bc of financial issues? Really great topic! I don't regret clicking on it like other clickbait vids.

wise wise wise of you!! Oregon's lucky to have ya
You are seriously like a real-life Rory (Gilmore Girls)- you're so meticulous and deliberate about everything you're doing! I really admire that
omg i grew up with Rory!!! love her

i'm so proud of you for doing all the research to find the best option for you! college is fundamental and you definitely are going about it wisely!
You go girl! I'm in the same boat and bummed about leaving college, but also excited for the future. :) You got this!
So excited for you!! Such great advice for everyone in college!

Yea plz do one!
i'm listenin and will do one soon enough!
Thank you for making this video! People don't talk about the finances of college.
I am blessed to have a full scholarship, even though it isnt my dream college I dont take for granted the privilage.
Lovely video Kath! So inspirational that you know wat you want and took the right path to get there!💖
I'm a sophomore and realized at the end of last year that with the amount of credits I've accumulated and financials, it would be best to graduate early! I'm still adjusting to that idea of a 3 year experience and not a 4 year, but this was such a great perspective on it! :)

I can't believe someone like you didn't get into UCLA - that school must be impossible to get into
+Dhaval zzstu Gandhi it's not an assumption about her but rather UCLA and how they apparently have super high standards because Katherine is a really good and dedicated student. It was a compliment to her haha

not true.
I got accepted to UCLA and Berkeley! #GoBruins ! I plan on making videos about how I got in, in the future.
Good job Katherine! I am also on the path of graduating college in three years!
WOOHOO i'm not alone
This makes me sad, you posted this on my first day of college. :( thank you for all your college videos though, they really helped me out! ❤️
how was it?!
+Katherout pretty awesome actually😂 The number of people was overwhelming, but I'm so happy and excited for this year. I know I made the right decision on where to go to college👌🏼

will do!

Hi! We are doing our bachelors in france too. Enjoy your last year!

love you for watching my videos !!
so glad i don't have to worry about that in germany - my whole university experience will probably be cheaper than one year for you
Very interesting video Katherine ! In France, a degree is usually 3 years 😃 but we can take 2 more years of University after a degree !
And I don't know if you know that but in France, University is almost completely FREE ! 😃

Such a great video! I found this so informative. Thank you!!! 💞💞
of course, Hannah!
please do videos on job hunting and your experience with it thus far.
yes to the job app video! 😪
Wow, you go girl.

i'll be applying!
I've done one it's an amazing experience! I hope you get it!
I did it in 3 years with my undergrad, now I'm in 3rd year of grad school, and it costs nothing. Awesome!
the camera really liked your jacket haha :)
+Logan Green I KNOW UGH
I LOVE the song choice
THANK you

Wow, you seem to really have it all together! Good for you! I've enjoyed your college videos so much! Btw what is the song in the background?
The music in the background is way to noisy.
I'm planning on graduating in three years with a double major😅😅
28 AP Credits???? Wow! How many AP classes is that total?
I came in at a sophomore standing and reached my junior standing in my second semester freshman year due to AP credit, but my Animal Ecology major is def not as flexible unless I take summer classes 😅😅😅 zoinks at least I go to a public school! I more envy you than pity you, ya gettin ahead gurl! Shoutout to your parents saving!
i'm all for makin the most of your college situation, whatever dat may be :--)
I talked about your videos to my friend and she finally watched! She also told me that you remind her of me lol Love your videos!
YAYAYAYAY i love hearin of the katherout message spreading
I love your videos
28 AP credits!? Girl...you're amazing
Your gorgeous!😻😘✨
I'm just thinking of how it will affect plans for med school so I'm working with my advisor to figure it out.
def something an advisor can help with!
You're very lucky that your parents saved up for college. My parents didn't save anything, so I've had to take out student loans for every semester. I'm going to be drowning in debt and I'm so scared.
It’s mostly common to graduate in 3 years at most places outside the USA
I don't know if I am the only one who did this, but I scheduled my classes based on each semester. For my college, if I take 15 credits every semester I will end up being able to get into my desired program early. I think I would like to do a semester abroad though.
I'm going be in 38,000 debt after uni so 50,000 dollars :(
9 thousand a year plus living and food costs is about another 8000 a year :(
If you can't pay for any of it maybe take. A year off to work
+Astronaut nah in the uk it's normal, you don't have to pay your fees until at least 2 years after you finish and once you earn over 21,000
misstortoise102 its simillar in canada but if this person literally can't pay for anything its not a bad idea to work and get the first year out of the way.
unless u mean its normal to be that much in debt... cuz thts a lot of debt
Last but not least I feel like they don't listen to anything I say
I want to leave and go somewhere else.. I honestly don't have a single clue what to do.
Gosh, I'm so happy that I'm going to college in Mexico as I am in a public university it is so...much cheaper.
How many ap credits did USC give you credit for? At most of the schools I'm looking at, they only give credit of 3-4 total AP classes.
I am glad that you are happy with your decision :) Also it isn't normal to graduate in 3 years in canada
oops!
Well, good luck! Too bad I will take a lot of debt for medical school after undergrad.
You have a really pretty voice!!!
Why didnt u apply to UPenn Wharton?
Actually in my state many students can go into early college in high school which lets them have 2 years of community college once they graduate then they would only would need to go to college for only 2 years! So 3 years isn't surprising :))
I never finished college. I was barely passing my classes, and I decided I didn't like it that much, too much stress.
When I toured USC my tour guide said they only allow you to use 11 AP credits ???? I'm excited to see what you do after graduation!
you can use up to 32 units!
Do a. Job application process please
I'm trying to graduate high school a year early, and this interests me
When you say don’t take out loans more than what you’ll make in a year, are you talking about the price of a semester, year, or all 4 years?
I really really want to go to usc. I want to become a music teacher, my music teacher, Mr.jenkins, says to go to usc for music. I don't think I'll be able to afford it tho, even with financial aid, I really don't want to go to another public school.
Angel Campos I'm going to USC thornton in the fall and I got reasonably generous financial aid. I'll be paying about $31k before loans. U should still apply bc u never know what financial aid will be like'
I go to usc lol
3 year courses are standard in the UK :) I thought you were dropping out though, gosh!
sry for da scary clickbait
:') haha
28 APs?! wow I did 10 APs so far, rising highschool senior, and am already sick of extra APs lol
I had 28 AP credits! That's 7 AP tests
My high school only had one AP class and it was Calculus and I withdrew from it my second semester of high school. I wish I was in your situation.
I have 38 credits from high school so im doing 3 years and studying abroad, im in a business major as well.
