this update harms creators so much, a new system which is designed to be more of a gamble rather than a fair system for developers big and small.
They don’t want you promoting “gambling” yet you have to gamble with REAL money just to get your game noticed by a small group of people.
the old ads worked exactly the same with the "gambling" system, its how all ad websites work. it's not a problem with roblox, the highest bidder will always get the most coverage

Honestly, I never bothered with ads because they were very annoying for me. I use an extension to hide them. However, I do feel bad for people trying to promote their groups and games. Especially small developers that just started.
It's over for small devs, it's physically impossible for anyone to get any players without ads. And sponsorships and in-game ads don't count because absolutely nobody clicks on those
sponsors get more clicks than ads ever did, been running both for years. but ads did have their glory days and did have a lot of personality to them

They also added ingame ads that just override decals in games. I was in furana and every decal was replaced with a sour patch kids advertisement. It was also only on my client so it’s likely a partial rollout to avoid massive backlash.

I'm mixed on this. On one hand, I understand Roblox could not moderate the ads right, leading to many scam/spam ads. On the other hand, there's really no way for small creators to get the word out about their games. I don't pay attention to "immersive" ads or social media. The only way I find games and clothing is either Roblox ads or the rare chance I see something in my homepage. I never check the discover tab cause its always the same stuff

I didn't use them a lot but it was always fun seeing people engaging it with all the wacky ads you'd see. In the last few years though they fell off for me in terms of how redundant they looked.
The lack of any suitable replacements blows though, and is another example of ROBLOX trying to funnel all to the front page.

I don’t see how small devs are affected. I’m a small dev and I have used ads and I have ever only got one player from it. User ads were bad because of the gambling system and in Roblox‘s dark times (now), none of the ads were good at all and were sponsoring dumb clothing groups that have stolen or low quality items

Pros being that there won’t be any scummy promotion from users only wanting to make a buck from trashy Ugc’s and games
Cons are that it would be corporate hell now and smaller communities have a little chance to show themselves to the whole. (Hell I’ve even stuck around with a small community because of one of those ads)

Roblox really fucked up here. I use an ad blocker, but I have it disabled on Roblox, because the user ads are not only (usually) funny, but actually _relevant_ to the website itself. If Roblox tries to replace them with generic, corporate bullshit, I will immediately turn my ad blocker back on, with absolutely no exceptions.

Hey, I'm a big developer (30m+ visits) so I think I have grounds to speak. User ads were ANYTHING BUT EFFECTIVE. In comparasion with sponsors, they would barely bring you players unless you were bidding literally millions/day. You were competing against titans of the website to advertise. While that still is the case with sponsors, the game speaks for itself rather than the ad you made for it. It was coming, since ads haven't been profitable for developer for the longest time.
finally a smart comment, i stopped running ads sometime in 2019, only continued to use them for clothing groups and sponsors are better for new devs due to a larger userbase (something like 80%+ of users are on mobile alone)
its mainly the fact is was always there that makes me so sad its gone😔😔

Once again, they don't even listen to players, they deleted something they didn't need to delete. And as always replaced something they didn't need to replace, like the icons of chat and menu in the games, new icons are so shitty and inconvenient to use.

Some of these ads (No patrick, we're not including clickbaity ads ya dingus) actually caught my eye sometimes, like that one ad where there was a blue undertale sans ad on the top and a red one on the right, both of them appearing at the same time, which was enough for me to screenshot it and save it.
Yeah the bad ads are gone. But the good ones are too.
i was fine with some user ads, the only obnoxious thing about them was players kept using it as a way to get more people to join their group (for example join this group for free robux)
They even made the site theme look like a mess anyone got a Stylish plugin they can drop so I can fix it
I believe the “RoPro” plugin has it to where you can change the site’s theme with their own themes on their free version.
I want that plug-in if anyone has it.

I know at this point you don't even need to play Roblox to know that the Roblox could care less for their community, if they even cared at all. But the thing that really makes me mad is the fact that Roblox delayed the removal so they could advertise their own stuff.

How are small games supposed to get players? What if you have nothing to do and just want to play random games? The last time I clicked on an ad was yesterday because I thought it was funny. You can find so many small gems inside of roblox by just clicking on random ads and now that is gone. Also I haven't seen a scam ad since like 2018-2019, also you aren't forced to play a game you cliked on, its your choice.

This probably won't get us anywhere, but imagine if all the big game studios with in-game ads just grouped together and removed them, and roblox themselves wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Bee Swarm Simulator is a good example of this, as they have in-game ads, but in settings, you can just remove them altogether with no fee or consequence. Truly, we need a bigger scale Minecraft mob vote rebellion.
