Just to let you know;
the video has a delay in comparison with the audio just like the poster critique stream from a couple of days ago...
It's youtube processing the videos. It takes time. The poster crit has fixed its syncing issues.
Finally UX stuff! Thanks to entire Futur team
This video is my favorite on the channel so far. It really was off the chain. PS Nicole has a wonderful personality. MOAAARR!
Great episode. Would definitely love to see more UX stuff
what topics are of interest to you?
Any UX topics really. I would love to see a day in the life of a UX Designer video or UX interview process
Same here. Different User Research or Testing processes :)
@@thefutur Coming up with new interaction models, Making big UX design decisions, turning design insights to actionable solutions. Love your stuff guys and yes, deeper dive into the UX process and case studies would be so helpful!
pivoting my career into UX and
this is very informative. Thank you
Finally I stumbled on a very useful UX course. Amazing information, Nicole is wonderful, actually everybody is wonderful :)
Thank you.
Loved how you highlighted how unintuitive and inaccessible ux design can be to those who don't have the skillset. Thanks for making this resource and taking the time to recap in order to make this more accessible. As a ux practitioner, it helps me build a business case with my employer for sufficient time and resources when they understand what I do
one of the most educative videos out there on the topic. Gold
Loved the door reference! Took me back to my philosophy days. What Nicole was describing as far as the appearance and pre-conceived function of the door we would call it's "readiness to hand". And when it does not function as expected we are "thrown out" into the world from the comfort or confines of our expectations. Great episode!
Great episode, would love to see more UX videos. I would like to see an episode continuing where this left off even if it is with someone else or difference idea. Basically a video on prioritizing & synthesizing the ideas and sketching out ideas along with wireframes.
super valuable - enjoyed thoroughly
thank you Nicole and Chris for putting this show together
Another great episode. Thank you Chris, the entire Futur team and Nicole !
Thanks for watching live and commenting.
Advice to beginners from Nicole,
Get tactical training
Surround yourself with like minded people
Go to events
Get a mentor .
thanks guys great content .
:D So much fun! Thank you guys, brilliant show!
glad you enjoyed it.
Great insight into what ux design and how it works.
Excellent Episode!!! Nichole knows her stuff! I’m taking away so much useful information.
However, Arron and the bathroom analogy had me cracking up!!! “Looking for holes in my bathroom experience and plugging them with solutions” OMG!! I’m such a child!! 😂🤣😂
haha.
Sure would love to see more episodes like this :)
Thank you guys. You guys doing good job. Love all your content.
You’re very welcome.
Thank you for this. I am in the process of transitioning from a traditional graphic designer to a UI/UX Designer in my company and this video couldn't have come at better time.
we must be reading your mind.
The Futur mine too. It's been a year since the transition. I still feel a little unsure sometimes as the UX process can change depending on the project and the problems associated with it. I think it's great if you could make a video about fear and courage especially for early career starters :)
It’s been 3 years! Would love to hear your update and progress into UX ☺️
@@Hamyhamster24 Hey Hamy, wow can't believe it's been 3 years.
Happy to report I succesfully transitioned in to a UI/UX role at my company and have recently been promoted into the lead UX Design role, where I mentor and manage 2 other designers :)
The constant pursuit to learn and improve (and some thick skin) is all it took!
@@morgantran2066 that is AMAZING! and thank you for updating the community! im so happy to hear when people pursues their dreams and making it work. I myself also recently pursued designs and it has been a tough lol. hearing stories like this gives me hopes! keep up the great work bud!!
Thank you for the valuable content! we want more UX content please
valuable insight on what type of person a UX designer is.
Excellent video.
I think The "flexibility" examples could benefit from understanding two main approaches. First example would be the path approach liked turbo tax. It's very structured and meant for a very specific outcome. Opposite to the guided approach is the sand box approach. The San box gives users the set of tools to be used in many ways. This works really well for creative content. It's like buying the star wars death star Lego kit versus a box of random Lego parts.
Heyyyyy.. Aaron's back!!!! miss you man.. show up more regularly dude!! Nice video too.
Is there a copy of that UX presentation somewhere? Would really make for interesting reading.
You mention all the crews who’s helping you make content. That’s so cool~~
there are even more people. we try to thank as many people as we can.
very valuable
oww. I just realized that you finally change the logo...way better in my opinion now
I always dread the part of the show when Chris yells, "Roll the titles!". The audio always peaks. After that, the show is good. :)
sorry about destroying your ear drums. I'll tone it down.
I usually don't write comments, only if they are amazingly funny :P ...Anyhow, I unsubscribed from your channel... I don't know, it wasn't satisfying my needs. Few minutes after, I searched "UX podcast" and found this (slap in my face). I subscribed back haha. She is really amazing and all of you are functioning great together here. Keep on!
“I can't tell whether or not I like these complex terms for really basic concepts. It seems to muddy the conversation.“ I agree! seems like there are terms overlapping each other and is there a universal principle? mental model sounds like expectation of the experience to me...affordance sounds like intuitive
Chris please do a video on how to compete with people on behance for work. There are literally 1000s of great designers out there. How can someone stand out and score. Thanks as always for excellent content
i think we've addressed that already.
Watching the recap. The reason it's called affordance and not expectations is so that it can be used in a design process. E.g. "The button has bad affordance, it doesn't do what users expect"
couldn't that work by saying, "This button has bad expectations, it doesn't do what users expect?"
Linguistically I don't think that works, but I'm sure all designers in the room will know what you mean.
Buttons don't have expectations, buttons are inanimate. They have affordance.
Chairs afford sitting, buttons afford pushing, knobs afford turning. It's just easier to reference instead of saying "The expectation of chairs is that they can be sit on".
#hatebeingasmartass
Yes, the term affordances is not a simple UX term but it's still important to note that there is a difference between affordances and expectations. Expectation is a very result focused term. When _______ happens, the user expects ______ result. While on the other hand, affordances is much more focused on the clues that communicate to a user of an interaction. Because the term originated from architecture and industrial design what it's describing isn't always what the expected outcome is but more what a user is suppose to do. The interactions that a design affords. For example a round object on the ground would afford a user the interaction of rolling it. A door with no handles but a flat metallic plate would afford the user to push the door open rather than pull.
thanks for the clarification.
Awesome video for someone trying to switch career paths and find their way to prove their worth and creativity. I think some other workout future opportunities for the app could be cal intake check through out the day. Afternoon idea to walk through in the background of music because you find out it is a hard time to look at device for help rather than listening skills. Evenings can be an awesome idea to map the next day because the morning I'm lazy and afternoon I'm too busy. another would be a reward system? the idea was motivation workout app and I think if you are able to give results from other people who did this app, maybe work with local area to get coupons fro foods and sups. Lastly for misc. I find checklist for grocery and sups, an actual schedule mapping because everyone is different and foods act different at different parts of the day, and music playlist for different times of the day using hand picked artist and music genres (my music gets more intense building up to workout and then declines for a successful and easy rest at the end of the day).
Awesome ideas and I love this channel! I spend my off days watching this channel to help me try to switch fields.
Thanks for everything you do!
You’re very welcome
Hi! I would like to ask is there going to be Instagram critique?
I feel like instagram is the best social modia and best platform where people can see your work. Thanks for answering my question! 😋
yep. check our FB page for schedule. submit before it's too late.
Does somebody know where I can find her on the internet ? Social medias, Portfolio, ... ? :)
I will come back when the audio synced up.
it takes about a day to sync up.
Nicole is a badass!!!!
Is this video going to be available later ?
Yes
How to do the user analitcs task if we have four different type of personas ?
Hi Mathan - My apologies for the delayed response. In the situation where you had multiple personas, you would essentially perform the exercise for each and then dig into identifying what are commonalities/ challenges across all personas and begin to flesh out design solutions.
Hi, @Nicole Johnson I'm curious what sources or books are you refrencing in this video?
Hi @thefutur, are you able to share Nicole's slide?
only if she gives it to us.
*Here are some questions from the chat that I would also want to know the answers:
-does each firm have their own design process?
-where would learnability play into these principles ?
-As a UX designer, how do you keep yourself from falling into the trap of thinking that you are the user? What if you don't have any personas to draw from?
-how do you strike the balance between familiarity and originality...
anyone has an answer?
Hey everybody

Random, but does the theme song have a title?
it's available on iTunes. Futur theme song.
With a professional looking sound booth and monitoring tech how is the audio so, so, so bad???
The mics outside the booth were picking up the fans from the laptop I think.
Awesome episode but RIP headphone users in the intro
sorry. no more screaming.
great class ! BUT CHINESE upgrade too slow
what Chinese upgrade?
the Chinese version has been updated in the past few month, but the Chinese version has not been updated recently . sometimes i get an email from a new course online but i can`t find any new video in the bilibili.
can you send me a link to the Chinese version? thanks.
ok check this link www.bilibili.com/video/av24137917
Did someone ask Google design test in the question section?? Cheeeeating 🤣

Awesome vid!!! Finally some more UX! Loving this stuff... Also you can totally create your own Smart Mirror yourselves: ruclips.net/video/fkVBAcvbrjU/видео.html
Love the brand of Iconmobile, huge 8bit and bit font fan! What an exciting company to work for!!
Great video :) Maybe just one improvement Chris. Can you shout a bit less? I found it disturbing. Nothing against you. Maybe I am just not alone and it can makes the vid. better.
you mean at the beginning or the whole time?
Almost every time when it happened :) . There are some moments when you talk too loud. I feel like it can set a nice energetic mood in the beginning but I find it disturbing later. On the other hand, it can wakes up the people, when the video is long. The question is, if this way is the best one and if you can do something else to keep the audience in entertainment while watching the long video. I hope you find my comment useful. Thank you for reply.

Distorted yelling on the microphone is triggering
She is nervous AF 😂
The content she presented was great but the guy was super annoying. Anytime she used a word above a middle school level he was like "woa woa..."
Thank you for the feedback
