Amazing as always! Your videos are more helpful than you know. I not only learned some new information about tooltips, but solved another issue I was having. The way you explain things is so easy to follow and you don't skip the "obvious" things that some other specialists seem to do. Keep these videos coming please!
Taking a break from furiously scribbling notes to say this is an awesome tip! I am thinking of running a Shadowrun game soon, and I have ideas now for using tooltips to show what augmented reality/AR might show on a map. Also, I wouldn't have figured out that macro ever on my own, so thank you very much!
I was just thinking yesterday about using some token tooltips in my maps. I was also thinking I could set up tooltips for "blank" areas by using a transparent .GIF or .PNG and giving it an aura (so I can see it as GM) and putting it wherever I want a tip to pop up. This macro is going to come in very handy though!
You can set the token transparent and give it a glow, then only the GM can 'see' it, but if players happen to mouse over that spot, the tool tip still shows up for them.
hi Niko, why use two buttons in the bottom bar? Wasn't it better to just have a button to toggle tooltips on and off? Thank you for everything you do for the roll20 community.
But you're not just toggling them on or off, you're also setting their text. And sometimes it's better to be clear about what something is doing than to be short. Here's another problem with your suggestion - how many clicks does Nick's way take to clear a tooltip? One - clicking "clearTip". If we make that into 1 button that's "tooltip", then we might have 2 windows that can pop up - the first says "text" and you type the text (or leave blank) and the second says "On or off" and is a dropdown for you to choose if it's on or off. If we take this second way of doing things, how many clicks does it take to clear a tooltip? Three - 1 to open the first dialog, 1 to confirm the first dialog (no text required), and 1 to confirm the second dialog (assuming that Off is the default). But if on is the default, now it's 5 clicks - 1 additional click to open the dropdown and 1 additional click to select Off. Now you may say "You're being pedantic", but am I? The point of a UI is to be easy and straight forward for someone to use, especially if it's things they're going to be doing a lot. And in a D&D game where you should be focusing on how to do things quickly to keep things flowing, having 1 button with up to 5 clicks just to clear a tooltip is a bit much. Especially if you accidentally only do 3 clicks because you forgot to select "off" and now you get to do 5 more clicks. So much clicking. Instead, you have 1 for "set" and 1 for "clear". Simple.
I just did this with a city map for my game. I went a step further and used the Encounter Helper mod to prepare all the points of interest, and then I can reveal them as the players discover them.
The tooltip thing, It will help my 3.5 game so well. All the various conditions and such that can affect the players, for instance bless has major boons in that edition.
This doesn't appear to be working for me either, I have a pro account, I installed the mod but after the text box appears an dI put a word in to test the token doesn't have any tooltip entered or the show box ticked
Ok. I am confused. I swear I saw your video the other day where you created a darkness spell API script. But when I went to search for it, nothing happened, I cannot find it.
I've gotten the set tooltip macro to turn on the "show" box, but that's it. Ir won't add text. The clear tip macro will no uncheck it. But it WILL clear text now!

Your tips have a huge quality of life factor for my games...this one is top 5 for sure. Thank you!
I have a session picking up mid-combat tonight and this is going to help us all. Thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! Happy gaming!
It would be really great if we could have "GM-only" tool tips so the player's couldn't see them. Thanks for the video.

You can save this video to a playlist so you can watch it again. That's the magic of videos. You could even download it.
Glad it was helpful! Happy gaming!
Thanks, I linked it to my ideas in OneNote, I just don't like losing my train of thought when I am in a creative mode. @@Dyanosis

That’s a great idea to use a transparent gif! Happy gaming!
You can use it also with color on GM side

Does anyone know how to use custom status markers that you can buy with group check ?. would love a video of that.
Very helpful little macro here. A true timesaver for sure! Thanks, Nick!

Nice! Short! Great!

Did you have a token highlighted when you ran the command?
I did, I tried on several tokens some connected to sheets some not just to see if that interfeared @@NickOlivo
Are there any errors displayed in the API console?
SyntaxError: Identifier 'libTokenMarkers' has already been declared @@NickOlivo
Hey, where did you get the map icons? I would like to use something like that for an upcoming game I'm going to run.
They're from this art pack - marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/10213/city-map-markers

Unfortunately, the script didn't work quite as I planned, so I had to take that video down.
Ahh gotcha.
I typed it in correctly as far as I can tell, and it's not working. 🤨
Do you have token mod installed?
I do.
