    I went to a Japanese Steakhouse and I spoke with my waiter about my dietary restrictions and she went to talk to the chef about my options. The chef came out, spoke to me about all my needs, and cooked me a scrumptious meal especially for me! It has been so many years now, I can't remember what I ate, but I remember it was good! 😁

    I just spent 5 weeks in Oaxaca Mexico and was amazed at how open the restaurants were to preparing oil free vegan meals for me. They also had a totally oil free vegan restaurant there. Also the meals were delicious. If at almost any restaurant I could ask for rice and veggies or black beans if the beans were not cooked in fat.

  • @RanndiMarie01
    @RanndiMarie01 5 лет назад +7

    Yeah I learned from working in a restaurant that you can make up basically whatever you want. Lol learning this definitely helped me out when having to create a vegan friendly dish at a restaurant! It’s as simple as noticing a dish has black beans so you see a different dish you want that has chicken so you ask them to swap out the chicken for black beans.

    Great video. I’m 64, been vegetarian most of my life, went vegan about 5 years ago, gluten free for 3. Eating out often is a challenge, so I don’t do it that much. I always pack my own food, water. Never thought about the mini-blender. Definately going to check that out. Thanks

    Outstanding tips. When I travel, I check ahead of time where there are grocery stores. I will often check in, unpack, put on my running clothes and run to the store. I uber back with enough plant based food to last my entire trip.

      I've driven across the country a few times. PA to TX and UT to PA... In addition to snacks, we usually bring a good cooler and ice packs for things that need to stay cold (fruit, veggies, hummus, pre made wraps and sandwiches). I usually try to pick hotels near food options or grocery stores. I've found most have options you can microwave (frozen Amy's burritos, steam fresh veggies, cans of beans, sauces, etc). Also we've found it's helpful to bring reusable utensils and tupperware.

    I'm curious, why no Oil? I, personally love olive oil. It's great for my skin, hair, and overall body. Why do you guys seem to stray away from it?

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  5 лет назад +3

      The plant-based physicians and experts we’ve learned from have shown that refined oils are no different than refined sugar in the sense that they’ve been completely stripped of their fiber and other components that make them no longer Whole Foods. Oils are empty calories and instead we should be obtaining healthy fats from whole food sources like nuts, seeds, and avocado.👌

    They should invent a name for vegan + gluten free + no processed food type of person. For airplanes you can get vegan, vegetarian asian, vegetarian arab, kolsch meal, gluten free. But every single meal will have something I can`t eat. Either a bread, lactose or meat. When you say you are vegan immediately there will be bread or noodles involved. In best case scenario you end up with processed food.

    • @ettlena

      It depends on the airline though. As far as I know Lufthansa for example offers raw vegan meals, which would suit your needs best I think. I remember getting all kinds of fruit + a salad or something like that.

    Not healthy, oil free or anything, just vegan for the animals, but the tips are great, thank you! A little life hack: in some countries they do add non vegan butter to sides, especially rice. So make sure to ask☺️

    I'm so glad I ran across your video. I'm moving in about 2 weeks. My fiance and I decided that we don't want to eat out every meal during our travels. I am a vegetarian but I'm trying to eat more dairy and gluten free when I can since I have Ulcerative Colitis and diary and gluten are some of my triggers symptoms. My fiance still eat meat. So instead of buying unhealthy junk food from gas station all the time I was looking for more vegan travel foods that would be good for the car or hotel.

    “The menu is just a suggestion.” Makes my waitress brain scream a bit, thinking of all the pushy picky eaters that could take that and run.
    But I’m always happy to accommodate allergies and vegans/vegetarians.
    And I still think it’s important to ask about that sort of thing, because that’s how we end up with menu items that are specifically vegan or those cool symbols on menus that mark vegan items. :)

    "vegan or plant-based"? What's the difference?

  • @jokautzman2971
    @jokautzman2971 6 лет назад +1

    Curious, how does one live a plant based lifestyle if levels fluctuate between being diabetic and then levels not! Fruit = sugars, carbs

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  6 лет назад +2

      We recommend checking out www.masteringdiabetes.org/ . They discuss the true cause of diabetes--it's not sugar, but actually fat that is causing the blood sugar issues. Fat "gums up the locks" so to speak, which inhibits sugars from exiting the bloodstream and getting into the cells where they need to be to provide them with energy!
      Fruit contains fiber, which sets it apart from refined sugars and refined foods like donuts, cupcakes, candy, etc. Fiber helps to slow the release of sugars into the bloodstream. We eat fruit all day every day with no problems, and know many fruitarians who do the same. Robby Barbaro @mindfuldiabeticrobby has Type 1 diabetes and eats a fruit-based diet. Check out his stuff, for sure! :)
