House of Mirth is my favorite Wharton. I hope you enjoy the reread.

There are loads of books where I only have some vague memories or none at all, and sometimes only a feeling remained but there is no guarantee for that either... 🙈 Very unfortunate! But good to hear from your experiences, thank you for sharing them!
An additional problem for me occurs, when I know a film adaption really well, because in this case the pictures from the film wipe the story of the book out and it doesn't matter how many times I reread the book, the images always win 😶‍🌫️ Do you know this kind of overlapping effect? For me this was particularly impressive with the stories of Jane Austen and I definitely want to immerse myself in her books again soon (and try to forget the film plots as best as I can) 😊😅
And something in general: Thank you for all your reviews and recommendations on your channel 😃! Your channel has turned out to be a real treasure trove of book gems for me 📚 Thank you for the great videos! I wish you a Merry Christmas 🎄!

Ohmygosh, I have the same problem with the adaptations, which is why I try to re-read the books often so that I can be reminded of what is "true" (to me, anyway) and what is someone else's vision. It is really hard, especially when an adaptation fulfills all that you envisioned for the book. No matter how hard I try to compartmentalize, Darcy and Elizabeth will always be Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and Wentworth and Anne will be Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root.
Thank you so much for your kind words, it truly means so much to me. Thank you so much for watching and have a wonderful Christmas!

House of Mirth is on my "needs a re-read" list, too. Only remember the name of Lily! I'm slowly making my way through Wharton. I've not read Evelina and it's also a priority for 2025. I've read Camilla and Cecelia, and they are a blur. I've also read Burney's The Wanderer and that has stuck (and is well worth it)...hope Evelina stands out, too.

@@kathleencraine7335 I’ve actually been searching for a copy of the Wanderer! I always look for one when I go to used bookstores and library sales.

I really want to read Anna Karenina but it’s soooo thick, it scares me haha! Also Brideshead revisited which , I just learned is kinda what the movie Saltburn was based on ( minus some scenes obviously). Saltburn was one of the movies I really loved but made me so uncomfortable at the same time!

@@Darkpumpkinspice it’s such a big book! But what I’m going to do is read it the way it was serialized, so it will take about a year. I’m likely going to start it next month.

The dictionary pronunciation is not how you say it. I've never heard it said how you do it.

@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD I figured it out after I filmed the video. Apparently it’s American vs British pronunciation and there is a British literature professor that does some Jane Austen content that pronounces it that way which is likely where I heard it. So I’m not entirely crazy!
