*There in another lesser known fact about him:* His 'Kaalapani' punishment in Andaman's Cellular Jail was so brutal and confined that for three years he did not know that his brother (Ganesh Savarkar) was imprisoned in the same prison in the cell right next to his. Such was the brutal punishment he had. During his solitary confinement, he 'carved' his writings on the walls of his cell using the sharp edges of his handcuffs, and some of such marks can still be seen to this day in his prison cell, which is located in such a place in the prison that, the only thing he could see was the live hanging of other prisoners. Hats off to his positive spirit and determination!
Here is another story. The torture in Andaman prison was so horrendous that only two people in its entire history made it out alive. One was savarkar, after writing his infamous apology.

I bought a book recently written by Subhas Chandra Bose "The Indian Struggle" and some fact is clear with me that if Gandhi had hand in the Independence of India then the people like Bose Savarkar Deshbandhu Das(C.R. Das) and Lokmanya Tilak have their legs in getting the Independence of India.

My dadaji was a brave freedom fighter from Bihar and worked with some of the most amazing freedom fighters too. He too was jailed in the Cellular Jail. Have visited this Jail in Andaman.. My heart cried out for all our freedom fighters and especially for Veer Savarkar as he could see all the fighters being hanged. He didn't even know that his brother also was in the same jail for 9 yrs. His courage is tremendous to keep the fire burning even after seeing his fellow inmates being hanged.. Reading Vikram Sampath's book on Savarkar was the best thing I did. It made me furious that an epic like Savarkar was not even mentioned in our history text books. I have cried reading Dhingra's story and the tortures Vinayak had to go through. People defaming such a man do not deserve the independence they enjoy today
Watch Akash Banerjee's video on Savarkar. Abhi and Niyu only like to claim themselves to be centrists but of course, they won't show you the full story. Savarkar opposed Quit India Movement and actually laid the foundations for the division between India and Pakistan (which today, Congress gets hatred for). Slowly, Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League also picked up on the idea and in the end we got seperated. Savarkar wrote the mercy petition whereas his fellow freedom fighters completed their sentence and joined the Quit India Movement in 1942. Hindus today like to complain how politicians are interoducing propaganda in Hinduism to gain votes. Well, Savarkar established Hindutva in 1923, which was a political ideology stating that (in short) Hindus, Jain's, Buddhists were 'Hindu' but Muslims and Christians weren't. His ideology slowly poisoned the ties between communities leading to a wider gap. Definitely, he was a freedom fighter and all Abhi and Niyu stated is true, he did loads of good in his life before jail but after he left the prison, he was more no more of a freedom fighter. Also, Hindus like to emphasize on worshipping Cow and banning beef. Well, Savarkar had quite the opposite idea. He didn't like the idea of worshipping cows and quitting beef. Rather he believed that cow was a important and respectful animal but nothing more than that. He got the title of 'Veer' due to a book (don't remember the name) by a famous author and it was only revealed years later by the author that the book was infact written by Veer Savarkar himself 🎃. He received pension from Britishers and wrote letters multiple times demanding a hike. There are way many more points I cannot mention because either I am unaware of them or the answer will get too long but yes, instead of blinding supporting him, we should understand that his life was divided into two phases and both were kind of opposite of each other. Edit: Additional point, he even justified rape of Muslim women in one of his books(don't remember the justification kindly research on your own).

If he wanted to divide Hindus why did he establish a casteless society in Ratnagiri and encouraged intercaste dining and marriages? He was a young barrister who knew his rights and he wrote petitions for his fellow prisoners so they could live another day outside that hell. He received pension because his life and career was literally snatched away from him for more than 2 decades which took a toll on his health and family. This pension was not coming from the British pocket it was the money that belonged to Indians. What is wrong in it? He truly wanted Hindus to stop believing in taboos that kept the Hindu society divided so they can unite and resist the predatory faiths. About the first question I don't know but about all the later ones, all of these questions which got raised were after he was kept in house arrest. Not many who question his character know this but all the communication that he would have would go through British government, they would read everything and then send the message to respective recipients. There is no guarantee that whether they tampered the messages or not. He always supported Akhanda Hindu rashtra concept meaning he always opposed the idea of two countries. He resigned from his position of hindu mahasabha well before independence and even after they checked his house only to find no evidences for proving any linkage to the assassination of mahatma Gandhi. Also he has stated that the incident was a grave crime. Source for all wikipedia. So answering your questions, 2- too much possibility of the statement not being his, also since he didn't believe in the concept of religion he won't specifically say muslim. 3- You can check up the works on wikipedia and as for were the works for hindutva or for country, he believed hindutva means patriotism towards India 4- He always wanted united India so no 5- Already answered 6- People gave him the title.

His 'Kaalapani' punishment in Andaman's Cellular Jail was so brutal and confined that for three years he did not know that his brother (Ganesh Savarkar) was imprisoned in the same prison in the cell right next to his. Such was the brutal punishment he had. During his solitary confinement, he 'carved' his writings on the walls of his cell using the sharp edges of his handcuffs, and some of such marks can still be seen to this day in his prison cell, which is located in such a place in the prison that, the only thing he could see was the live hanging of other prisoners. Hats off to his positive spirit and determination!
Both brothers met each other in the jail in 1911 only, not after three years. See the Biography of Babarao Savarkar. P.46.

Here is another story. The torture in Andaman prison was so horrendous that only two people in its entire history made it out alive.

he was gifted writer no doubt. But veer? One shouldn't confuse the two. It is easy to display bravado with writing, but when life was line he saved his own skin. Further there is ample evidence of his collaboration with Brits after his release. That, certainly tainted his legacy. People are not trolling, they are being objective. Bhagat singh, Rajguru were brave. They made ultimate sacrifice. Savarkar chose survival and collected pension!

I bought a book recently written by Subhas Chandra Bose "The Indian Struggle" and some fact is clear with me that if Gandhi had hand in the Independence of India then the people like Bose Savarkar Deshbandhu Das(C.R. Das) and Lokmanya Tilak have their legs in getting the Independence of India.

Have visited this Jail in Andaman.. My heart cried out for all our freedom fighters and especially for Veer Savarkar as he could see all the fighters being hanged. He didn't even know that his brother also was in the same jail for 9 yrs. His courage is tremendous to keep the fire burning even after seeing his fellow inmates being hanged.. Great job as always.. 👍

Reading Vikram Sampath's book on Savarkar was the best thing I did. It made me furious that an epic like Savarkar was not even mentioned in our history text books. I have cried reading Dhingra's story and the tortures Vinayak had to go through. People defaming such a man do not deserve the independence they enjoy today
Watch Akash Banerjee's video on Savarkar. Abhi and Niyu only like to claim themselves to be centrists but of course, they won't show you the full story. Savarkar opposed Quit India Movement and actually laid the foundations for the division between India and Pakistan (which today, Congress gets hatred for). Slowly, Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League also picked up on the idea and in the end we got seperated. Savarkar wrote the mercy petition whereas his fellow freedom fighters completed their sentence and joined the Quit India Movement in 1942. Hindus today like to complain how politicians are interoducing propaganda in Hinduism to gain votes. Well, Savarkar established Hindutva in 1923, which was a political ideology stating that (in short) Hindus, Jain's, Buddhists were 'Hindu' but Muslims and Christians weren't. His ideology slowly poisoned the ties between communities leading to a wider gap. Definitely, he was a freedom fighter and all Abhi and Niyu stated is true, he did loads of good in his life before jail but after he left the prison, he was more no more of a freedom fighter. Rather he believed that cow was a important and respectful animal but nothing more than that. He got the title of 'Veer' due to a book (don't remember the name) by a famous author and it was only revealed years later by the author that the book was infact written by Veer Savarkar himself 🎃. He received pension from Britishers and wrote letters multiple times demanding a hike. There are way many more points I cannot mention because either I am unaware of them or the answer will get too long but yes, instead of blinding supporting him, we should understand that his life was divided into two phases and both were kind of opposite of each other.

He received pension because his life and career was literally snatched away from him for more than 2 decades which took a toll on his health and family. This pension was not coming from the British pocket it was the money that belonged to Indians. What is wrong in it? He truly wanted Hindus to stop believing in taboos that kept the Hindu society divided so they can unite and resist the predatory faiths. You may disagree with all his views, I do too but maligning a person's character completely without knowing their contribution to the freedom struggle is utter ignorance.

1. If he started writing mercy petition in early days of prison ( as he had written 5-6 mercy petition)

About the first question I don't know but about all the later ones, all of these questions which got raised were after he was kept in house arrest. Not many who question his character know this but all the communication that he would have would go through British government, they would read everything and then send the message to respective recipients. There is no guarantee that whether they tampered the messages or not. He always supported Akhanda Hindu rashtra concept meaning he always opposed the idea of two countries. He resigned from his position of hindu mahasabha well before independence and even after they checked his house only to find no evidences for proving any linkage to the assassination of mahatma Gandhi. Also he has stated that the incident was a grave crime. Source for all wikipedia. So answering your questions, 2- too much possibility of the statement not being his, also since he didn't believe in the concept of religion he won't specifically say muslim. 3- You can check up the works on wikipedia and as for were the works for hindutva or for country, he believed hindutva means patriotism towards India

They did. Veer Sawarkar helped them. Before his arrival, they did not have the knowledge, that they could do so. He saved many. And what you are referring to Merchy Petition is not a literal "Mercy Petition" English is a very funny language.
