If feasible, it would be great if I-4 could expand to include express lanes that bypass the WDW/Celebration stretch for those who are traveling from Lakeland & Davenport to Orlando and would like to expedite their otherwise short drive.
I agree that Orlando food choices are top notch. I live in Polk County and people swear Tampa is better. Orlando has way more international cuisines. Capa is my favorite restaurant in Orlando.
It's understandable that the affordable housing plan in Disney's Horizon West area would spark some local backlash. Balancing the need for affordable housing with preserving the character and environment of the community can be a challenging task. It's crucial for all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to address concerns and ensure that the plan is implemented in a way that benefits both residents and the community as a whole.
As a HW resident there’s is no issues with the apartments. It’s Disney land they can do what they want with it. Will it add traffic sure but HW will continue to be an amazing community I can’t stand my neighbors right now there all snobbish about here’s another apartment complex. You can’t have one demographic or income based dominate an entire region. Remember we live in Orange County not winter garden some get confused.
Ken, I'm pretty sure u have become the unofficial voice of the Orlando Metro area. I live in Bellalago, currently serving, we are in District 3 where Commissioner Arrington serves. A lot of that growth is coming to that area (Poinciana, the Plwy, Pleasant Hill, John Young, etc.). Due to income levels and basically not a lot of planning as u pointed out, the County is not ready for this growth...looking forward to hearing more from your followers on their thoughts regarding the growth, traffic impacts and timelines for many of these projects understanding from planning to execution to completion of most major projects is 5-10yrs and there are not enough projects in pipeline to meet the growth needs of an additional 150k (which I believe is a low forecast given the international push to Osceola), by 2040...not an actuary but I do understand numbers...
I grew up in Los Angeles, and I watched this happen in the 80s and 90s. There's a golden age where the growth brings a lot of cool things, but if there is not an equal effort to increase incomes, third spaces and a curb to over development. . .we will ultimately see what we in California today. Americans moved out West (during the Tech, Defense Industry and Hollywood Boom) and then out East (Retirement, Affordable housing, and Political reasons) . . . they're all Americans nothing has changed but the shift in opportunities. I'm on the Space Coast, and the population has exploded over the last 2-3 years. I tell folks, the boomers and silent generation came here and didn't overdevelop, built parks, fishing areas and many public spaces. The developers and agents use this to attract clients (I understand, its business), but then everything that made the place great is trampled ( a la whats happening with "Over tourism), not only does it lose its soul, but the place actually becomes unbearable to live. Regardless of how close you live to the beach. Just my ¢ .02 BTW I love the Space Coast, but I see a lot of the same behavior I witness in California. It's imperative to increase the number of parks and open spaces.
The Morse family of billionaires won’t pay the impact fees, instead they make deals with the counties to have them raise the taxes on the new residence the build the “friendliest” place to live. Where the “retired” homeowner’s have to work for them to afford the taxes, bonds & administrative fees to live there.
For the affordable housing story, is there any impact from Disney losing power over their association (i.e., Reedy Crk) for planning, control, decisioning?
For the past 28 years we have owned a few houses in Osceola. All located close to Disney. While there still is plenty of empty land the reality is our connecting roads are a nightmareSupported by a county commision addicted to growth without an eye for the 50 thousand plus of us living west of I-4. We love the area but are grid locked moving around. Thje solution? Slow down the developers untill the roads can handle more growth. Reunion and Encore at Reunion classic examples. 800 homes and not a dozen families live there.Gigantic vacation homes promoted to literal tens of thousands of tourists each week. The majority owned by foreign investors. Why hasn't the county told these type of developers no more new homes before you provide affordable apartments or smaller homes as part of the growth?

I work remote, ported my job from NJ in 2018. Moved to a different company in 2020 (interviewed just before pandemic) and still work remote.

Ken you gotta talk about the growth in 4 corners area. It’s absolutely insane. People can’t drive anywhere in the mornings due to traffic.
What is your favorite resturant in Disney Springs? I will be attending in June. Ty!

Thanks for these updates, Ken.

Instead of trapping your minimum wage employees, why not pay them more so they don’t need to live in affordable housing?
That would make too much sense. Lol
My wife and I work from home and both of our companies are located in RI. We would both find new jobs vs moving back if required 😂
Great insight! Thanks for sharing! - KP

So 70% of this project is low income housing. Just call it the Disney Projects.
Need an elevated metro rail line in the Orlando Metropolitan area
Just say NO !
I don't care about affordable housing, my concern is too many apts, affordable housing is more apts, that we don't need
Ok? Then what's the answer then? Huh?
Pay employees more so they don’t have to live in affordable housing. The happiest place on earth, isn’t really that happy.
