  • The warmest boots in the world? Most likely--yes? Maybe no with modern technology but it's hard to beat just INCHES of wool.
You have your LL Bean Boots, your Sorel Caribou's, your Mukluks, your Shoepacs, BUT...do you have your bunny boots? Better get them bunny boots!! Developed during the Korean War these boots have become favorited by people living in the coldest of cold climates. Fun fact: these were even copied by Raf Simmons! They are officially called “Extreme Cold Vapor Barrier Boots”. Developed by the US Army!

The Iron Snail is a men’s fashion vlog starring a young man named Michael and featuring a snail no bigger than a quarter. The two are set on taking over the world of fashion by creating a clothing line to end all clothing lines. Until then, we’re here to tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the best clothing out there, from the highest quality raw denim jeans to the warmest jacket to the sturdiest boots…the Iron Snail has got you covered. (written by Taylor, though Michael is sometimes known to talk about himself in the third person… xoxo)

I'm from the southern US and went to work in the arctic, outside, all day, everyday. Yep, I didn't know anything about that kind of winter, the -40 to -50 temps with 65mph winds, kind of winter and the boots needed to stay warm. I have a whole new appreciation for these types of clothing.

These are still in use today by the US military. I wore them back in 2018 when I went to bridgeport CA for mountain warfare training. It was below freezing in the mountain tops but I think we were lucky enough that it didn't go below 0. They worked great especially with a pair of thick wool socks, kept my feet dry enough from the sweat that it didn't feel disgusting wearing them all day.

I bought the Mickey Mouse boots on a whim a few years ago. But since I live on the western coast of Norway, it never really gets cold enough for me to need to wear those things. So they sit somewhat unloved in an old (and funky smelling) steamer trunk. But when wearing those, due to my build, I look more like a fantasy dwarf. So, fantasy creatures unite in cold weather boots?

I was walking back from a squad that lost a comsec fill, my unit jumped about 40 miles and left me. It was snowing, but when the snow stopped the air temps dropped to -70. I walked for two days in the arctic in Jan. Pretty weird story, but a bit long one involving non stop walking, an OG grey wolf, a fallen tree with snow on it, a tiny pinhole in some other units SICUP tent I spotted miles away that eventually lead to my recovery, but my feet were fine. Not even a bit of frostnip, frostbite, trench foot, or real issues. Tired, cramping, and sore for sure but unharmed.

We had a 10 man warm up tent, so all boots were marked, mine had a smile faces on the toes, when confronted by my CO on this, I stated warm feet are happy feet. SIR! Marching and stopping puts their usefulness and durability to the test. That said trench foot is and issue and an ammonia scented tent when 10 paratroopers take their boots off at once is nauseous.
