- The warmest boots in the world? Most likely--yes? Maybe no with modern technology but it's hard to beat just INCHES of wool.
You have your LL Bean Boots, your Sorel Caribou's, your Mukluks, your Shoepacs, BUT...do you have your bunny boots? Better get them bunny boots!! Developed during the Korean War these boots have become favorited by people living in the coldest of cold climates. Fun fact: these were even copied by Raf Simmons! They are officially called “Extreme Cold Vapor Barrier Boots”. Developed by the US Army!

The Iron Snail is a men’s fashion vlog starring a young man named Michael and featuring a snail no bigger than a quarter. The two are set on taking over the world of fashion by creating a clothing line to end all clothing lines. Until then, we’re here to tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the best clothing out there, from the highest quality raw denim jeans to the warmest jacket to the sturdiest boots…the Iron Snail has got you covered. (written by Taylor, though Michael is sometimes known to talk about himself in the third person… xoxo) - Хобби
I'm from the southern US and went to work in the arctic, outside, all day, everyday. Yep, I didn't know anything about that kind of winter, the -40 to -50 temps with 65mph winds, kind of winter and the boots needed to stay warm. I have a whole new appreciation for these types of clothing.
Whew that's freezing! That's when boots like these become amazing + lifesavers
@@TheIronSnail right? When little ice cycles are forming in your nose and yet you're still fairly comfortable, that is amazing.
These are still in use today by the US military. I wore them back in 2018 when I went to bridgeport CA for mountain warfare training. It was below freezing in the mountain tops but I think we were lucky enough that it didn't go below 0. They worked great especially with a pair of thick wool socks, kept my feet dry enough from the sweat that it didn't feel disgusting wearing them all day.
Ah fascinating to know!
Black Bird?? NOOOOO!!!!!
Apparently there was a youtuber convention out in that forest LOL Great vid as always! Im actually working on extreme-cold products at work, so this content was really timely for me - I always learn something watching your channel!
Oh well that sounds like quite a cool job! Also there totally was
I have several pair of these got them for around $70 per pair at local army/navy & in like new condition. I mainly use them for hunting in PA & they work great. Just an FYI, Armor All works great to keep them in good condition, keeps them from cracking.
Hey man, as always great content. I love how you never seem to run out of flare in these. Hope youre doing well man!
Thanks my friend! I am! I hope you are too
Oh wow, I remember these boots from my days with the Marines (cold weather training in Norway, Canada, Maine, etc.). Warm, weighty, and wet (from sweat). Thanks for that trip down memory lane, Snail...
I gotta say just found your videos today and this is the most interesting RUclips channel I’ve ever seen it’s about fashion but also you and another comment said it felt almost Wes Anderson esque when watching your videos and honestly they hit the nail on the head! The first one I saw today was the Stan smith story because they’re my favorite shoe of all time and so glad I found your channel truly a hidden gem of the internet!
I definitely vibe with the whole overkill bit. I just wore a cable knit wool sweater I had recently bought to work today…it was 65 degrees today.🥴
But it was so fancy and Irish looking.
Nothing is worse than the end of the cold season and people like us refusing to let go
@@TheIronSnail *bangs fist on table* nature can’t keep getting away with this!
Fun fact, mike, through some stroke of randomness I once had an old Michael Kristy channel video recommended to me, and thought it was hilarious to see how your humor hasn't at all changed and that you drop sick rhymes. Great video on the bunny boots, might be something I pick up one day if I'm going to the arctic or something crazy like that.
Hahahaha oh man you found 8thWeekday!
Looking forward for the new channel, and to see the sample! Sweet kicks btw
TY x3!
HELL YEAH! BUNNY BOOTS I WANTED A VIDEO FROM YOU ON THIS TOPIC!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOU
I LIVE TO SERVE!
Your editing and b roll have much improved 👍🏻
Well thank you!
Those boots make you look like Sora from Kingdom Hearts...SOOO BIG! Also thank you for being open about not wanting to watch the Super Bowl, I could not have cared less about it
Hahaha YES THEY DO! And we are twins then!
Don’t know why your video came across my RUclips, but you’re hilarious!
Subscribed to the new channel. Excited to see that develop. Good luck 👍 and keep up the great content.
Hey TY!
Great video. You present it very well.
Was coincidentally talking with a client about bunny boots last week! He used them in North Dakota on the military base in the Winter lol
Hahaha woah! They are super cool tbh
This is a great video. This is one of those videos that get millions of views out of nowhere
Amazing, love watching your videos.
Thank yoU!
Those boots work so well in cold weather that they’re almost chilling… ;) pun intended! Keep up the great videos Michael.
...BAM! And ty!
Add Canadian affiliate links as well. If I see content creators to that I absolutely use them because of the effort.
oh! didn't even know that was a thing!
@@TheIronSnail yea put an Amazon link for the US consumer and the Canadian(if there is one or an alternative). I don’t know how much work for you that is but that option is clutch.
Altama cold weather boots have a removable liner. They keep feet warm down to 40 below in snow and wind. You should do them and see the difference.
What the hell is this channel? I love it !!!!!!
I saw a pair of these in the mid 90's belonged to a friend's father, he had a hush hush job in the military and kept them as a souvenir. I always wondered the origin.
I bought the Mickey Mouse boots on a whim a few years ago. But since I live on the western coast of Norway, it never really gets cold enough for me to need to wear those things. So they sit somewhat unloved in an old (and funky smelling) steamer trunk. But when wearing those, due to my build, I look more like a fantasy dwarf. So, fantasy creatures unite in cold weather boots?
I was walking back from a squad that lost a comsec fill, my unit jumped about 40 miles and left me. It was snowing, but when the snow stopped the air temps dropped to -70. I walked for two days in the arctic in Jan. Pretty weird story, but a bit long one involving non stop walking, an OG grey wolf, a fallen tree with snow on it, a tiny pinhole in some other units SICUP tent I spotted miles away that eventually lead to my recovery, but my feet were fine. Not even a bit of frostnip, frostbite, trench foot, or real issues. Tired, cramping, and sore for sure but unharmed.
I read to my children the tails of iron snail every night.
Nice fades on those selvedge
Great review! Just curious should I wear them as regular boots or overboots over my regular boots❓ 🤔
Them fades starting to pop! You should do a fade update on the N&F.
SOON!
Archive hypebeast love those boots
Yes! was waiting for the vid drop. Look like Danny DeVito from Home Alone in that thumbnail lol
Danny de Vito wasn't in home alone. Joe Pesci was tho
@@Wingsnthings23 lol thats who i meant
Bahahaha I totally do
nice. i have them. i wore them doing survival on a national tv show. in the winter on a huge volcano.
that elf joke came out of nowhere, absolutely lost it
A friend of mine who taught cold winter training for the Marine Corp said the difference is the Mickey Mouse boots are for cold wet climate and bunny boots are for dry cold. He trained thousands of troops. I had never heard that before. Took him at his word. youtuber rose anvil cut each boot in half, no difference in insulation, interesting. I own both.
Im a wwii reenactor, and I can guarantee that shoepacs are good for 1940s boots and thats it lol. They leave alot to be desired, but work!
P.s.
Also Im the guy who wrote that song inspired by you.
Bahahaha hey at least they work! And oh HEY!!
Nice wool beach cloth! I bought that jacket last year but my fiancé said I look like a member of the Von Trapp family. Begrudging returned after I began to agree, even though I never quite figured out what it meant. I think the length. Should have sized up
Hahahaha hey we can both be members!
What brand is it ? I love it sadly Michael forgot to do the fit check in this review.
I really like your editing style, great work!
Kristy, I'm excited for the new "Michael Kristy" channel. I will subscribe to it, and in the comments of those videos I will refer to you as "Snail."
done
Congrats on reaching the “other channel” milestone.
Bahahaha ty!
Those boots are big with dog mushers in Yukon and Alaska. Folks who regularly see temps of -45 C
I like that Decker jacket.
Thanks!
-56 degrees Fahrenheit the first time I was in Fairbanks Alaska...I wore fairly meh Eddie Bauer boots with multiple really nice wool socks and was fine. If I had been placing my feet on the cold metal of an American tank I would have liked something that kept me warm with nowhere warm nearby, but in my case I had a car and an apartment and functional heaters.
What type of jacket is that? I really like it!
Damn bro! You got a pair of these, they seem to be in wonderful condition. How much are you gonna price the Iron Snail trucker bro?and also how heavy is it going to be?
Hey! And yes they are amazing! I'm thinking around $250 and 14.5oz!
They kinda cool looking
I lived in those as an Arctic Paratrooper, its a love hate relationship. We had a 10 man warm up tent, so all boots were marked, mine had a smile faces on the toes, when confronted by my CO on this, I stated warm feet are happy feet. SIR! Marching and stopping puts their usefulness and durability to the test. That said trench foot is and issue and an ammonia scented tent when 10 paratroopers take their boots off at once is nauseous.
Those seem like the cheap PVC rubber boots you can buy from the army navy store in that are great for keeping your feet dry but horrible if you have to walk in them! You didn’t mention if you were agony after several steps? Just remembering how heavy my dads Vietnam war regular boots were, I can’t imagine the tonnage on those?!
You know I wasn't actually as bad as I thought! Just super super heavy
Ive got the black boots rated for -20f, Ive found that theyre very comfortable for 8 hours of standing and walking outside. Maybe its because of all the wool youre standing on? I like them for days when im outside in high wind low temp all day
i wear these in hot ass weather bc i like fashion
What jacket or overshirt are you wearing in this video?
What's that external-to-pocket key arrangement you're always rocking? I quite like it. Does it involve a clip or something?
It's a Taylor Stitch brass loop! I love it BUT one time it did slip off my belt loop
What kind of coat are u wearing ?
What kind of coat you’re wearing?
I swear this dude editing in random shit just to get over 10 min lol, still a good vid
👀
@@TheIronSnail I love that you responded this lmfao, get that bag man
Where to buy? Is it possible to buy new?
I've seen a pair of these ar a thrift store, shoulda got them
Here's my comment for this video!
well TY!
very interested in knowing what cardigan / shirt jacket you have on in this?
Thank you!
Taylor Stitch Decker Jacket in Wool Beach Cloth!
What are those gloves?
Michael, what is the name of the beanie under which you folded your wee ears?
HA! To be honest I don't know...a far gone ex lover gifted it to me
this video got me so confused i looked up how cold korea got in the winter. Apparently it gets down to -10c (which is really not that cold where i am from). Having generally cold feet, i feel like i would probably enjoy something like this but at the same time that feels very overkill for the korean war (unless americans really are that bad at getting through winters).
From what I’ve heard, they were overkill for most soldiers!
This that new yeezy collection
Is this south mountain reservation??
Bunny boots bunny boots
Where can i get them
Michael, would water sip in through the valve? Thanks!
Only if they are open!
Why 🤔 do I feel just like you 🤣
Bahahaha
What jacket is that ?
I think I have that exact same jacket. Taylor Stitch?
Oh yes!
I see what you did there exposing these designers inspo Ambush x converse et al.
I imagine muclocks didn't need to be waterproof too as they were worn with thick wool socks
This is also true!
Can someone from the us help me get a pair of these??? Cant find any in europe. Need an us8 or 8.5
Mans over here looking like Great Value Drake Bell
HA dollar store Nickelodeon star
What was the point of standing in the water for so long? It's rubber - it's waterproof by design. Now if you put them on your feet and put them in a tiny freezer and compare with regular boots, then you'd have a much better perspective on how effective wool is at retaining heat.
What's the jacket you're wearing in this snaily?
heyo! Taylor Stitch deck jacket!
"Giant boots and skinny jeans" 😂🤣
Hahahahaha
these shits are fire. anyone know where i can buy a pair?
Yo i wanna buy a pair of bunny boots, do they get really hot on a normal/sunny day?
Oh if it’s not cold they are probably killers
What's the jacket you're wearing?
Taylor Stitch decker!
Where did you aquire these boots second hand ?
Ebay!
@@TheIronSnail thats super awesome ! Dude make a video on ur watch . Id 100% watch!
Granddad wore a pair in Fairbanks testing rockets. He called them Mickey Mouse boots.
Woah well that's pretty cool
How fast can you run in them?
Lets just say...pretty fast
thought this was raf
We called em all Mickey mouse boots.
I’m waiting for a rapper to pull up in a pair of these 😂

@@magnuskristensen5632 oh sick 😂
We call those Mickey mouse boots. When I worked at a car wash they were basically mandatory. In michigan.
Yup that makes total sense!
looks like a new yeezy
Don’t let Kanye see these
Their called bunny boots.
How-much, don't make me look it up :)
Hello Iron Snail, I thought all Bunny Boots are white, yours look tan in the video. Why is that ?
They're old. That's flat out it. The older plastic and rubber, get the more their color fades out because of being exposed to sunlight.
@@GIITW.5OKC Makes sense. Thank you.
@@stevenroche9874 I forgot to note, just like your tires, if the rubber isn't used it will dry rot no matter the conditions. Which is why you can see some cracks on these.
@@GIITW.5OKC Spraying rubber with silicone will prevent drying and cracking.
Looks like workout boots. Can you drive a car without crushing all the pedals at once?
Oh yeah! My Camry was cruising
hat down is better cos my ears are to high and they bend and make me look silly
Bruh those are bunny boots
They may be working but they look like Mickey Mouse shoes
this is a straight fact
close to 65 seconds of waste footage.... sorry to find this so late!
why do you say the opposite of what you mean? you said "i could care less" when you clearly meant you couldn't care less.
eh because im an idiot
