In my setup backstage calls on GitHub Actions and then GitHub Actions works with ArgoCD. So Backstage has auth into GitHub Actions and GitHub Actions auths into ArgoCD. Now for the ArgoCD plugin in Backstage, this allows us to see the status of apps in ArgoCD, I use an ArgoCD token in Backstage. You can see the details in the ArgoCD plugin documentation.
