I never thought about connecting motors to axles and gears like that, very clever! This is one my favorite engineering and invention shows

  • @Brian-dd2df
    @Brian-dd2df 9 лет назад +38

I think you would get more power if you used a solid connection between the piston and motor in the bottle. The poly tubing, although water proof, is flexible and would not transfer as much force to the propeller.

+Brian Patrick He explained that he used it for absorb vibration.
If you use solid connections, the vibrations will slowly affect the glue that is protecting it from the water.

The idea is that it is working. It doesn't matter if the motors are not that strong. You can buy more powerful motors and batteries. The example that he gave to all of you, is, that you can make things like that with simple items.
Good job Rulof. Love from Greece ✌️👍

+Robb's Homemade Life Just because someone made something that 'functions' doesn't mean it's great or they deserve an award. You want a comparison? Compare it to the potential of what it could be in your mind. Rather than just slap something together, held by glue and wire, maybe improve on a project before being satisfied with the end result. I'm totally with what some of the folks are saying with their critically constructive comments. There's nothing wrong with being critical. It drives personal motivation for improvement.

I love this guy trust me he is very creative but this project surpasses stupidity he fixed a 4000RPM MOTOR to the assembly with a vinyl tube! No point of putting in a motor like that the flexible tube will eat up its speed and power!!!!
He could literally grab the propeller with his hand and stop it because of the tube and on top of that with two motors that big you will drain that battery in NO TIME THAT IS SUPER INEFFICIENT!! And let's not forget how much water is flowing through those bearing dear Jesus it's MEANT FOR OIL NOT WATER !!! Water can easily pass through that wow!

    *Face palm
I'm sorry, but this (and many of your projects, +Rulof Maker), need some constructive criticism. I see so many positive comments, praising a lot of these projects like they're the best gadgets ever. What I will give props for is the ideas. Really, awesome ideas, I will say that. I know I'm going to get backlash comments whining about seeing if I could do better, blah blah blah.....but I really could care less.
I'd just like to say that a lot of these DIY projects you post could be 10 times better if a little extra time and effort was put forth. These propellers look and function like absolute junk. It's one thing to make something functional, but that doesn't make it good, or a worthwhile en devour. Spend a little extra time, make a prototype and improve on it. Just because SOME people like it, doesn't mean it's great. Sure, you've got a neat idea; but I challenge you to make something awesome. Something with power. Something that actually looks good and uses proper hardware instead of tape, glue, or wire holding stuff together like a child would make. Men go to the hardware store or strip the right type of hardware off of something else. Call me an asshole, I don't care. It had to be said. Lastly, don't be using a grinder without a guard, one handed, without eye protection, kids. I work in the trades and have seen so many idiots doing something like this who end up with serious injuries.

+Zombie Revolverheld Is it ugly? Yeah. Is it look stupid? Yeah. But, its for fun and he even not supported by any kind of sponsor. Its free. Well if he is like kipkay that make quite some money from his video, of course this is unproffesional. But i prefer this kind of video rather than any other polished and beautiful DIY how to videos. Because of the unproffesional looking project, i feel like even i can make the same things. And in the end, even if it just like what you say, its works. As the wiseman in the unknown place in internet says, IF ITS LOOKS STUPID BUT IT WORKS, ITS NOT STUPID. As long its not stupid, i think we can can ignore any kind of criticism towards it.

    Great prototype as a concept.
Heres 4 important points for your next one.
    Should weigh 10 - 15 pounds max.
1,) 36 volt batery lythium ion.
    2) 1 motor
    3) bigger prop.
    4) both feet slide into the one apparatus.
I already converted a hand held pull unit into allot what you have but one battery and one motor. It worked great. Only 24 volt though.
    I love your magnetic switch.(brilliant)
    Great vid though.
Be nice if you built another take my advice and you'll have a kick ass unit. Great for snorkling.
I was going down for two minutes with one breath the water thruster did all the work I was swimming just like a fish. If I tilted my head forward I decended if I tilted my head slightly up I surfaced. It weighed 15 pounds in total which perfectly neutralized my weight with a deep deep deep breath.
I kept my arms at my side or just did the Super Man.
    Very cool and fun.
I strongly recomend you build another. I ended up swamping my motor eventually and thought about a 36 volter. Maybe next summer I'll maybe build another.
    Thanks for the cool vid.

Hey Rulof, fantastic project! Only problem is the reed switch is going to weld after a while because of the relay's coil voltage spike, try a diode across the contacts if this happens.

Pretty awesome project. Not terribly efficient but a great proof of concept. Now if you could scale it up some you could put this into some really good practical applications.

Put those propellers on your feet, make the scuba gear you made in some other video, but with something bigger for an airtank and cut a large soda bottle in half and secure it to your entire face airtight. ULTIMATE SCUBA GEAR :D

Here's an idea, a while back i turned an old weed eater into a trolling motor. it works great on kayaks, rafts and other small things. I would to see what you might come up with. ;)

By the time I showed my girlfriend this video and went out to look for aluminum beer cans she came back from the sporting goods store with swim fins. But seriously.. you should work at Nasa you have a very creative mind.

There's a plethora of know it all on RUclips, however, if you increase the size of both screws, and shorten the poly tubing to two inches you will find more torque from the motor and increased speed from the bigger screws....cheers mate gonna play with those myself

Rulof, you are incredible! The pistons - what a fantastic idea. How did you know the pistons from the hatch back do the job? - I was tinkering with model submarines in the past, I never had thought of the pistons from the hatch back car.

Might be worth trying to attach it to your back like existing DPV designs. It will promote performance though an improved angle and reduce the damage you do to the sea floor especially if you're over a reef.

    YOU ARE AWESOME RULOF...!!!
It was very smart to use the piston as a water seal!!! many posibilities..!
I have one question from your previous vid: where you show the breathing aparatus, (quite useless as it is).
I have seen a you tube vid where they show that the 2 liter drink PET bottle could stand 10 ATAs and I was wondering what happen if you wrap this bottle with fiber like carbon fiber or something... It will stand more pressure..? maybe to be used as a regular scuba tank..?
If you do the experiment please be very very careful..! (maybe presurize it in a water container)
    many thanks Rulof!

you should make one so big that it is like a backpack that you can strap to your back. you can probably take a diving tank and go from there..... i like your videos and keep it up.

have you considered using a shroud to direct the flow? i do believe you can get some brushless outrunners instead of those gnarly wheel chair motors. nice build though.

How about, a motor with somewhat the same to stronger output, however, a shorter but wider, put into something that resembles a hover board....or as I understand the process, which isn't much, it's about one side sucking in water while the other side pushes out, or propels....so the same set up, maybe with a little stronger motors, however the bottles and propellers encased in something that will hold it without too much extra weight. Then you could strap it to each leg, or around the calves so that the output is still by your fee, but you don't run the risk of breaking them by standing.
Either way., I love watching your vids. Fun things to do with my son. Thanks
