I always see Sweetener, Thank U Next and Positions as a trilogy. Beginning with the hope and healing of Sweetener, through to the trauma and reality of TUN, to the eventual resolution and acceptance and relative hope of peace and moving forward with Positions. Each album has their detractors and their stans and each have their merits and their flaws, but taken as a whole it' a really insightful, enjoyable artistic vision that gives us a sense of the artist and where they were when each album was recorded.
I think eternal sunshine is gonna be another continuation of that trilogy. I saw a twitter thread that was full of connections between what we know about AG7 and sweetener
Sweetener is one of those albums that I've seen people absolutely love (me included) and others not rlly vibe with as much as her other albums, which I partly think is because of how music is received which is different for everyone, so I'd definitely suggest going back to that album, but the other two are also worth the listen.

The thing that I like the most about this album is that she didn't need to have super memorable singles with dance moves to make a good body of work. The album has wonderful production and of course amazing vocals from her. Yes, I agree that not everybody will like it, and you have to listen to it at a specific mood. But in general, in my opinion, it was her best work so far..

IMO one of the best things from Positions (Deluxe) is the transition from Main Thing to Die For You from The Weeknd. It‘s so smooth, always got them together in a playlist
Id say Yours Truly but the 10th anniversary live one because i fell in love with those rerecordings, way better then the original studio ones. Took me a bit to get into Sweetener but they are some big hits on that for me. My Everything is fab too. Down for any Ariana reaction. Shes my favourite vocalist.
Positions is heavily an R&B album, so it would make sense why it’s mainly not your cup of tea. It’s definitely one of my absolute favorite projects from her. I’m so happy you went back to give it a second chance. Loved your reaction 🤍

My everything is nice to listen to i think its one of the best in terms of pop bop songs but also having cool more slower songs. In my opinion it’s similar to dangerous woman. Sweetener is one of my favorite albums from her since release but idk if some of the songs have aged well... it does have beautiful lyrics and at the time it felt like her most personal album.

my issue too with “just like magic” is the lyrics are way too on the nose for me. it’s not relatable whatsoever. and the melody is a little too abc 123. gotta be the weakest song in her catalogue to be honest.
