GREAT interview! I'm in total agreement about parenting. I have a 28 year old son. He's got a B.A. of Science degree in computer sciences and programming. I am a singer (who sang with Pink Floyd, Nile Rodgers, Rolling Stones,) and I put my career on hold to raise my son while his dad worked as a musician. My parents became Doctors in the 1950s and my son said "I have no excuse NOT to go to college if they could do it during Jim Crow." I paid for my son to do Boyce Watkin's Black Business School classes in how to run a business, deal with finances and learn about investing. Due to the pandemic, it took longer than he wanted to secure a good job after his University teaching job was cut, but now he's making more than I am programming software for a motion capture company. He has several thousand dollars saved already and I know I did my job giving him the foundation he needs.

TK Kirkland is absolutely right regarding funeral homes. They nickel and dime you for EVERY LITTLE THING. Unfortunately I found out the hard way when I had to bury a family member.
This is the truth. My grandfather recently died and burying him cost thousands of dollars. It is crazy.

@@roseking8555 Exactly. Death happens and eventhough I like to avoid the discussion I still have to accept it. Unfortunately, we can't live forever and obviously we weren't saying that at all. My grandfather has a policy in place and saved us thousands, but the difference was still a large sum especially because we buried him another state which he wanted. Being prepared is definitely important and I am glad TK Kirkland brought that up.
Omg, you never lied I recently dealt with this myself. We had a very traumatizing experience with a funeral home taking my brother's body and holding it for 6 days without our knowledge after a pricing dispute. Watch out, watch out, watch out for these funeral homes. Please sincerely take it from me.
I usually enjoy a comedian's interviews more than their stand-ups and TK gives great interviews. I'll watch them every time one comes up. He may be a little outdated on a couple ideas but most of the time he's spot on. I respect the man and his opinions.

My mom has MS and she told me when she gets to a point where she can't take care of herself for me to put her in a home and live my life...but I wouldn't dare...I'm 41, a widow and can't have kids so there's no reason for me not to take care of my mom...now I do worry about the fact that I don't have kids and who is going to take care of me when I get where I can't take care of myself

I’m in my 60s and worked in city government in my 20s until I recently retired and I also felt Nyla’s reaction. I could accept a simple compliment but pulling me close and sexual compliments was considered crossing the line. The governor is out of line now and he would have been considered out of line back then. We just didn’t report it like young women do now so because we didn’t report I now understand now why some would take it that this type of approach was welcomed. They were considered creepy and we stayed away from them. He was out of touch on this point, IJS!!! Otherwise I enjoyed his interview. 🤷🏽♀️

6:57 hit home really hard!! Lost my parents in 2014 and 2017 and I swear for years I use to get mad at my mum for saying she worries about me when shes gone. Jesus that woman was so right, I was lost. Yea of course mainly my own fault of not doing well in life and falling back on mum n dad to much I get that but that’s how I was man there are many variables to life. Not to mention my girl just kicked out not long after the deaths with my two kids for no reason. Trust me I didn’t wanna be here for a long time. Shit I’m still struggling so yea, he is spot on.

I told people back in the late 90's Sexual Harassment in the workplace comes down to your relationship with the person you are talking to/complimenting.🤷🏽♂️ here we are in 2022 & it's still the same. I enjoyed this conversation. I’m especially happy to hear the narrative about parents expecting their kids to leave the home at 18. I could never understand that part of American parenting.
Ikr and usually the ones who are adamant about kicking their child out at 18 have done a horrible job raising them
Some of those 18 years Olds are itching to get out or they leave on their own. They come back because they thought the real world doesn't have rules...SMH.
No mother expects children too leave the house at 18 it's a fact that 75% of homes is single parent

Back in the days there were wars, men dying and working away from the home. The major difference is the when these events occurred the extended family helped raised the children or in Asian or middle eastern cultures, the brother of the husband married the woman or both families supported the mom. This concept of sending the children out to fend for themselves is heavily American. I’m an widow and is a single mom of 4, 3 of which are triplets. I’ve lived in the US since age of 11 and can’t comprehend the idea of sending my 18 year olds into the world snd not equipped. As a West Indian with part Asian heritage, sending my kids to university, ensuring they have the tools for success, and being a support fit them,is the norm. I’m a widow/single mom paying cash for triplets in university abroad, and couldn’t phantom them being out in the world without me providing them with the tools for success

As always a great interview with the brother KT when are you coming back to ATL? I saw you perform at Uptown Comedy Club. I am a 75 on my sleep number LOL. Flip Wilson was a great comedian and that Flip Wilson show was hysterical and don't get me started on Geraldine Jones.
TK is absolutely right,these kids have no instincts.I believe we grew up in a age of latch key kids,we knew how to use public transportation at a young age,go to the store,laundry ,be responsible for younger siblings etc.We had to be more aware of our surroundings and go it programmed into us.
