I know it may be silly, but I sang this song to my dog Bailey, while he was sick with cancer and heart failure. He was my baby! I had him from 6 weeks old on. I'd do this, and he cuddled in towards me and looked up at me. He wagged his tail up to the end, but was so, so sick. RIP Bailey 1/6/06-2/15/17

Ben Dougherty It is NOT silly. It is simple love from a member of one species to another. Love is love is love- period. Just because your baby wasn’t human, that did not make him less of a person. Are you familiar with the prose piece called “Rainbow Bridge?” I suggest you do a search on it. You may find some comfort there. If I wasn’t going to be cremated, my tombstone would simply say Next Stop Rainbow Bridge!

I can never watch this scene from Dumbo without crying. And in real life, elephants in circuses really are shackled when not being used and abused, and the babies really are separated from their moms.

I'm such an ungrateful bastard. The first time I moved out, my family and my friends help me moved out. After all the moving was done, I couldn't wait until my parents left so I could party with my friends. After standing around for a while, one of my friends tapped my shoulder and told me to look at my mom. She was crying. I really do love her. I'm glad she's still around and seriously my world cannot exist without her. Thanks mom for everything.

We do feel and have felt pain in our lives from a lost relationship are the death of a loved one. The pain can leave you feeling empty and things can't get any worse. And we also think they can never get better but they will. Believe me for my own experiences losing people I love dearly to illness and death. It can and does get better I'm not saying it's easy. The things of greatest value in this life require hard work effort and faith. If you've noticed you work very hard for something and for someone you also gained the greatest reward. You find strength and resilience that you never knew you had.
I remember watching this movie as a little boy and never payed much attention to this scene. Now I watch it again at 22 and I cry like a baby! It is such a beautiful melody that truly captures the love and affection a mother can have for her child. Very emotional.

Good God I purposely avoid Dumbo like the plague because it made me cry and tortured my heart as a child. I’m 37yrs old and I am bawling my eyes out watching this right now randomly. Everyone should watch Water For Elephants. I thought the movie would be too sad and it had its moments but I think it is based on a true story and the ending is happy and I just loved it. Poor elephants. They’re so smart and shouldn’t be ripped apart from each other and live in cages all for humans to make money off of them and their suffering. They’re living, breathing, feeling creatures. Created beings who are alive. They have emotions and desires and feel sad and loss and sorrow and grief and love and happiness and it just kills my to know how horrible circuses are. Thank God for elephant rescue places. You truly are special humans on this earth and we need you.

I'm in my thirties and live a few hundred miles away from my parents. I cry almost everytime they leave after visiting and visa versa.
When I was a toddler, my mother took me to see this movie. When I was 12, she started trying to murder me. I didn't hear this song again until I was in my late 30s, and it just broke my heart to be reminded again of what everybody else had and I didn't.

this was the first movie i ever watched as a kid, and even though i was young, i knew and understood the pain the mama was going through missing dumbo. i always felt sad watching that part. this movie was ahead of its time. i think any mama's boy loves this song.

I always cried watching this part of this movie. In fact, my mom even cried with me a lot. But one time she asked me what I really thought of the scene and I told her I really didn't want to be separated from her ever and I thought Jumbo Junior must feel the same way. My oldest son (now 28) and I used to watch the Dumbo movie together. Whenever Baby Mine came on, he would sit by me and snuggle of so close. I always felt this was a very special song for us. He has met the young lady of his dreams and will soon marry her. Our dance, he & I; will be Baby Mine. Now if I could just get through it without crying my eyes out.
Please don’t support circuses or anywhere else that forces animals to perform. They have families and emotions just like us. There’s many other fun things to do to!💚

People say she's crazy, but I love her and I really don't know what I'd do without her. She's my hero.

Some things made me cry when I was a little kid without rhyme or reason and this was one of them. My mom used to sing me this as well as When You Wish Upon a Star and I would cry every time. I'm 30 now and I'm afraid to listen to it. Just came here to comment. Nowadays I find it interesting that a child as young as 4 years old could be touched so deeply by music like that.
It is bc children are so very pure and loving. They are close to the heart of God. Usually it is only when a baby has been unloved and abused do they learn to be mean or hate others. There are exceptions of course, you know the "Bad Seed" school of thought....
I got diagnosed with ADHD at a young age.. and got bullied for not being normal up until I left High School.. and my mum seemed to have to go through it with me.. she'd cry for me.. so this song always hits me.

For anyone that want's some news about elephants: While Dumbo is an iconic character crafted from Disney's imagination, they mention that Dumbo is named "Jumbo Jr.". Jumbo was in fact a real circus Elephant, though he never had any offspring. It's unfortunate that so few people know anything of him, especially considering that his name was the origin of the English word "Jumbo", which came to mean anything BIG.

Jerepasaurus Thanks for the info man. I've been watching Dumbo on tape since I was a baby back in the 90s up until now. I didn't know there was a real elephant this story was relating to. After reading about the elephant "Jumbo" it really tugged at my heartsrings and put tears in my eyes at what had happened to that poor elephant. Despite not having offspring he looked after a small baby elephant named Tom Thumb, didn't he? He died protecting the baby elephant from getting hit by a train. Jumbo died while Tom broke his leg. It was so sad. R.I.P Jumbo. :(

We only have one life and we never know how short it can be so my advice to you is the same I gave my nephew... Live, laugh and Love everyday as if it could be your last and ignore folks that try to drag you down and you won't go far wrong 💙

My mom sang this to me when it was bedtime almost every night. I was a very independent child and almost never got homesick.but one time I was visiting my aunt in a far away state and I couldn't sleep. It got so bad I called my mommy crying and she sang this to me... Now I can't help but smile whenever I hear it.

This beautiful song reminds me of my struggle against bullying all throughout elemenntary and middle school. I was severely bullied for being gay and acting so flamboyant. So much that I eventually grew to dislike my self greatly. Yet through so much b.s that life has put in my path I remain being a kind hearted person. Scince a kid till this day. I am proud of that and I believe that God is also.
